Emilio's Tapas - Hillside Ratings and Reviews
Been here many, many times, first time for a birthday. Food is always excellent as well as the service. Nice wine list too. I specified a "birthday" on my reservation, and they had the table decked out with balloons and a card, plus a birthday dessert. Made the evening special. thank you!
I celebrated my birthday at Emilio's. The tapas selection was good and every dish we ordered taste good. We ate at Emilio's in the past and I think they have improved on their menu and taste. They send me balloons and birthday card right after we settle at our table. Birthday dessert at the end. Staff was very friendly, absolutely great value.
This is the second time we ate at Emilios and the seating is a little cramped. The food is very tasty and the waitstaff pleasant and helpful. It can get noisy; when we arrived a family of eight was eating and the noise level was moderate. As we were leaving a group of eight (friends/family?) sat down and were very noisy.
After having such a wonderful meal at the Ohio Street location, I was very disappointed at the meal I had at this Hillside location. Mushrooms came cold. Ham plate had too much olive oil & only 4 small pieces of toast. Shrimp was overcooked & had no flavor. My drink (the Patio) was amazing but such a small drink for $10. Sad to say we will not visit this location again.
We have been coming to Emilio’s for years. As a college student years ago I resided in Spain and I find that Emilio’s cuisine is very authentic and true to the food that Is served in Spain. My family has celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries at this restaurant. Usually the wait staff is very good. However, on our last visit I felt that the server could have been more attentive.
We went for New Year's Eve an early dinner. The food was amazing as always everything we ordered was delicious! We ordered some of our old favorites plus specials on the menu that day everything was great! The music was lovely they had a singer and she was wonderful with a great selection and it was not too loud so we could continue our conversation while enjoying the music. Perfect evening so much fun we'll be back!
We have been going to Emilio's since it opened 29 years ago. Loved it then still love it. This time we were honored to have Emilio slice the special Iberco ham, it was delicious. Other favorites are tha caracoles, all the squid and octopus dishes, garlic potato salad, baked goat cheese. The seafood paella was also outstanding except I wish the rice took on the bottom of the pan crisp (if it did I would order more often).
Unfortunately I will NOT recommend Emilios ☹️
I planned a birthday celebration dinner with 15 friends that Emilio’s understood. I spoke with people there on 3 occasions. On the day of the event a manager lady called to confirm our reservation. She says as a reminder you cannot bring in outside food. I said well I’ve planned this here for two weeks, no one said anything about no cake and I have a $75 birthday cake already ordered to celebrate.
She said you can bring the cake in, light the candles but you cannot serve the cake !! I said WHAT ! Why did you guys not say anything in any of our 3 prior discussions. A cake was ordered ! Are you going to pay for it?
In a very COCKY voice she said, Why would I want to do that? I said because you guys never said anything about no cake. She said it’s because of the health department. I said there’s 100 restaurants around here and 99% of them allow birthday cakes ! I called the Cook County Health Dept. They have NO such regulation, it’s up to the restaurant!
Emilio’s web site DOES NOT MENTION Anything about NO Cakes Allowed !!!
For regular dining this place is fine. SKIP it for celebrations, Birthdays... forget about it.
Unfortunately it was too late to find another place for our special birthday celebration.
And, I could have done without the RUDENESS or COCKINESS from the early afternoon lady manager !! 👎🏼👎🏼
Emilio’s exceeded my expectations on this recent visit for my birthday. My husband and I ordered from the specials menu, as well as hot and cold tapas menu. My overall favorite was the garlic potato salad. It was creamy and very flavorful with a strong, but delicious flavor. The potatoes were perfectly cooked. My husband and I shared shrimp and artichoke tapas, ahi tuna tapas, beef brochette, stuffed mushrooms, as well as potato salad. All items were perfectly prepared. We were totally satisfied, without being stuffed. There such a variety of tapas to choose from, it was hard not to order everything on the menu
Dessert was another another treat. We enjoyed the banana with caramel sauce and ice cream. I wanted to lick the plate of that caramel sauce! We topped off the meal with capappaccinos. An enjoyable and memorable meal. Can’t wait to return to try their paellas too!
Our table was ready for us when we arrived. Balloons on the table for my friends birthday. The white sangria was delicious as were the dates wrapped in bacon! We ordered many small plates and loved them all. Emilio even came out after dinner to say hello. Loved it.
This restaurant consistently offers a truly authentic Spanish tapas experience, based on my dining experiences in Barcelona, with unfailing creativity in combination of ingredients and presentation and exceptional quality in the final product. Everyone can find something that they'll love. Chef Emilio's personal commitment to delighting his guests shows through in every dish - this is the ultimate family-business success story. Meals are not inexpensive, but are worth every penny.
Emilio's is a great place to spend a few hours experiencing a variety of small plates both hot and cold while sipping sangria or wine. The menu offers vegetarian and gluten free tapas as well as traditional Spanish meats and fish. We enjoyed cold salmon with avocado, asparagus , and berenjanas (eggplant) Andaluz as cold tapas, followed by stuffed mushrooms, chorizo casserole, and pato con peros as hot tapas. Don't miss the Dates wrapped in bacon! No room left for an entree! But for a dessert try the campana Pera, a poached pear covered with chocolate with vanilla ice cream. If you are very hungry the paella is excellent, and can be ordered vegetarian, seafood or chicken.
Excellent and attentive service ensures a great time!
Emilio's provides consistent high quality food, authentic Spanish tapas and paella. Wine list is Spanish with a little infiltration from South America - Chile, Argentina. Continues to serve the excellent tapas that we've feasted on here for years and always has a few seasonal specialties to keep it interesting. Tapas include a wide variety that can be ordered to meet your diet - paleo, vegan, low carb, etc. We love the food here and the wait staff are always on top of their game!
