Emilio's Tapas - Hillside Ratings and Reviews
Small family get together. Perfect restaurant for a group to share small plates. You can try a lot of different dishes to expand your food enjoyment. Plenty of sound absorbing materials in the restaurant so it's easy to have a conversation without having to raise your voice. Love it. And great for families with kids.
I wanted to bring my daughter for paella. We are Spanish but don't get to eat tap as or paella very often except at home and with our busy schedules these days it's become less and less often so i thought for her birthday I'd treat her. Well the staff was wonderful however the paella Valencia was overcooked! The seafood was hard and tough! The bottom of the paella was not crunchy either like it should be. It was literally cooked opposite. Overdone on top soft on the bottom. Disappointing to say the least.
We hadn't been to Emilio's for a while. It was as good as we remembered and maybe even better! Our server was so friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The tapas were quite delicious and so unique. Loved the bacon wrapped duck on the specials menu! The goat cheese with caramelized pecans was also yummy! The mango sangria added a great complement to the delicious tapas.
We’ve been enjoying Emilios for over 20 years. His weekly specials are delightful. We always begin with a platter of Serrano Ham and manchego cheese and end with the chocolate terrine. In between we experiment with new specials. The wait staff and greeters are great, some of whom have been around for years
Extremely enjoyable experience! Service was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Tapas were outstanding and authentic and, during happy hour especially, a fantastic value. The red wine sangria was delicious. The Ambience was warm and festive. The only so-so part was the mariscos paella; kind of bland, not enough saffron or something. Overall, we will be making Hillside Emilio's a regular for us!
As always, the food is very creative and the tastes make for very happy mouths. The menu is smaller than it used to be but what is there is very, very good! Emilio's potato salad is always a treat for me. If you like garlic, this dish will make you very happy!
Hillside, IL, not well known as a culinary mecca with its profusion of shopping malls and fast food outlets coupled with massive nearby industrial yards. I was in for one evening at a local hotel and was looking for a place to eat. Being quite spoiled and admittedly snobbish by living on the Westside of Los Angeles, I was not frankly expecting much. I was flabbergasted by the quality, attention to detail, and care put into the cooking. the clientele was effusive, enthusiastic, and appreciative. Although the decor was nothing special, the service was friendly and helpful. As far as the food, the caprese appetizer consisted perfectly ripe sweet and luscious heirloom tomatoes layered with fresh mozzarella, a difficult dish to pull off due to it reliance on top-quality ingredients. For the main I enjoyed their signature paella, which included a decent assortment of shellfish and fresh shrimp. I've had better but this came off well, especially considering on how many 1000s of miles they were from the ocean. the marinated plums served over lemon sorbet doused with oloroso sherry was wholly original and tasty - woudl be great if I can something this good back home. The wine by the glass selection was limited, but did include some more than decent riojas, redolent of the spicy tempranillo grape showing some good age and depth. The only minuses was the bread which was only fair-- woudl suggest sourcing the sourdough baguettes from Costco or make it themselves.
All-in all, a delightful meal, a bit expensive considering the surrounding but well worth it. If I lived within 25 miles, I woudl be there all the time.
We have been clients since Emilio opened about 27 years ago. Since that time have never had a bad experience. This is one of our go to places for out of town visitors. My sister from England still talks about the wonderful tapas meal we had there.
We had a great time 8/19/17 with 2 friends. Great service, terrific food all the way around, incredible desserts. Emilio's is a great restaurant. We have been many times, and just have zero complaints. His tapas is magic. Red Sangria is so good! We will be back, and back, and back!
We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Emilio's so very much. It is delicous and always wonderful! I could not begin to pick a favorite dish. If there is one fault it is that everything is good and you will want to try it all. Be sure to get "a pitcher of red"!
