We ate here during our Universal vacation. It was located in our hotel so it was convenient. They had a special with free appetizer or dessert when you present your Universal pass. We did present our pass but they still charged the appetizer. I didn’t really notice till we left so I guess it’s partly my fault. I enjoyed the poke and creme brulee and the foie gras with the steak.
We arrived with High expectations, maybe this was the problem... I don't know. We ordered the the chicken sate app and the Mahi-mahi and the flank steak for the main course. The chicken sate was really dry... seriously, I could do better, sate sauce was very good. The fish portion was small but was good overall, sauce was light and very good and pared well with the broc. The flank steak was cut in half served over mashed.. one half was very good and cooked correctly, the other side was a bloody mess. The main course was delivered and nobody checked back with us after food delivery, we discovered we only had one fork in the napkin roll between us, so we shared. we asked for bread, it was delivered half way through the meal, just set on table without butter or olive oil etc... surprising, since you would have expected the place to be very busy, but we could have been seated at any table, really nothing going on and two wait staff assigned to the table... We are not hard people to please, but at $30 bucks a plate... the food better be good...It just plane wasn't. The next night, we went to Hard Rock and had a great time.. the food was surprisingly excellent. I would cross off the Tchoup Chop if you are going for the Emeril fine food experience.
Took a chance after reading some of the recent reviews...mistake. Made a reservation on OpenTable for a special occasion. Original reservation time was 5:30. Called the restaurant at 11:34am, just after their scheduled opening time, and requested a time change to 6:30. Was assured that this was not a problem. Arrived at 6:30 only to be told that we missed our 5:30 reservation and the only seating they had was at the bar as most of the restaurant was reserved for a single group at 7:30. After an unnecessarily tense exchange we were eventually seated at a table, however, the expectation of a great experience was gone. Service was not an issue as the wait staff had little to do until the 7:30 group arrived. We were literally over-serviced. We were given four appetizers to "make up" for the poor initial experience. Steamed Pork & Asian Vegetable Dumplings, Crispy Kalua Chicken Egg Rolls, Lobster Cheesecake and Kiawe Smoked Pork Ribs. While all were good, they were not great. Far from what is expected from an Emeril's branded restaurant. I have experienced Emeril's and NOLA in New Orleans on several occasions and this wasn't even close. Other than the appetizers we had the Togarashi Blackened Scallops and Hawaiian Style Local Fresh Catch. The scallops were a little above good bordering on very good. The fish was OK. Again, very far below expectations. A common theme throughout the various dishes was the overuse of soy sauce. It seemed to be the predominant flavor in everything. Not surprising to see that the restaurant is closing at the end of the year. Just surprising to see that Emeril would allow the quality of a restaurant associated with his name to be so substandard...very disappointing.
We love going to this restaurant when we stay at the Royal Pacific. The food is phenomenal. But this time the service was definitely sub-par. It won't keep us away, but definitely not the most enjoyable dinner experience. The manager did his best to make it right. Thanks!
I was looking forward to eating here, having stayed at the Royal Pacific many times, we always missed it. Unfortunately the food was not at all good. The Mussel appetizer tasted like it was in an unsalted vegetable broth. Tasted more like warm water. They gave us bread to soak up the sauce. Why?? The Ahi Tartar appetizer was the best part of the whole meal. The summer sweet corn, was not sweet at all, very bland. The Coffee covered Pork was good, but extremely salty. They were very slow, it was a weekday, but the service was lacking. The reason I'm writing this review is to save someone else the money of going here. The lobby Sushi Bar, and Islands Restaurant, in the Royal Pacific, are much better. You'll be happy you missed this restaurant.
We were very disappointed in the service and the taste of the food. For the amount of money we spent we expected much more. When we arrived there was a mixup as to where we were sitting and the manager offered us free drinks to make up for it. The manager basically took care of us all night because the service wasn’t good. The food was bland and not worth the expense. The only nice thing was the decor. I now understand why this place is closing.
Good tomato and mozzarella salad, and that's where it ends for food. Sushi and everything else was drenched in salty sauces - the sushi, the entrees. My tablespoon of risotto was mixed in a slurry of sauce under my entree. Servers were friendly but slow, and it wasn't busy.
The might have fallen and this restaurant is a shell of what it once was. I have long been a fan of this restaurant and was one of its first patrons when it opened its doors. Over the years I have celebrated anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, and other important events here. It was once at the height of fine dining, with fantastic service and amazing high-end cuisine. Still to this day, the best thing I have even eaten was at this restaurant.
These days are gone. Over the last two years I have watched the restaurant go down hill, in both level of service and quality of food. On this visit the head waiter only visited the table twice. She never offered to review the menu with me and was unable to describe any of the dishes on it. I was never asked if I wanted anything from the bar, and when my bar drink ran out I was never asked if I wanted a refill. My wife informed the waiter that we were here to celebrate my birthday. This did not improve our service, it only seemed to get worse.
Both our dishes (Veal Ossobuco and the Mahi mahi) were over cooled. Mine was so bad I had to send it back. It was replaced with a very flavorful (and VERY RAW) flank steak. The appetizer (pork dumpling) had wonderful flavors, but was also overcooked to the point of being dry. Great dishes are being ruined by the kitchen's inability to achieve the proper temperature.
Finally, the management was too busy to stop by our table. Our best service came at the end from a server that was not a part of the original trio we were introduced to when we first sat down. He promptly took away the overcooked food (after we attempted to wave down one of our waiters for over 15 minutes) and later brought our check (after sitting at a table with empty plates for over 15 minutes). This was once my favorite restaurant, but I fear that this was my last visit.
Pretty disappointed when you can’t even cook a steak to the right temperature. Ordered a med rare and came out super rare. Service never came back to ch co how we were doing. Empty glasses were never pre bussed off the table. And the chef was way more into his friends table next to us then anything else in the restaurant. Felt like a chili’s with an up scale menu
We had dinner here on Wednesday night. Our food was completely un edible. We paid over $100 for food that was uncooked. The rice on my husband sushi was uncooked, the cauliflower was raw but burned on top, my sons chicken was swimming in soy sauce and the pork fried rice had no flavor. The only thing that was good was my mash potatoes and my other son liked the meatballs my hated his spaghetti. I have never complained about food before, but this was in reasonable.
Lackluster service. The food was pretty mediocre. Not what I was hoping for with the excitement of Emeril’s brand. Even as the only table there, the food didn’t come out sizzling hot it was barely warm and the dessert had no flavor. We tried the red velvet lava cake-nothing molten about it it wasn’t even hot, and there was no cream cheese flavor inside, just plastic gooey textured red dough. Also-the kids meal teriyaki beef was decent but $16 for a kids meal? Nothing to boast about, post about or write home about.
We made a reservation yet were seated in the bar area even though many tables in the main dining room were empty. Our table ordered three different cocktails from the menu and all three were disgusting (who make a Dark and Stormy with half lime juice?!?!). Bartender also serviced our table so the service was inadequate. Water glasses went without refills and discarded appetizer plates sat on the table well after main course was served and eaten. Food was okay but not up to expected standards. Emeril obviously does not care what his name is attached to these days.
I was in with my friend who has celiac. We included this note on our reservation as well as informed our server. However, the restaurant appeared to have all servers helping all tables and we saw 5-6 different servers throughout the night. Each time we confirmed that what she had ordered or what we ordered as a shared appetizer was in fact gluten free. Many times we asked they would have to leave to confirm with the kitchen. One time when the server left he never came back to give us an answer so we sat waiting for multiple minutes until another server came by to check on us. I understand all workers pitching in, but to truly do it right, they need to communicate with one another, especially about dietary restrictions/allergies.
This was by far the worst experience regarding gluten free friendly restaurants in our entire week at Universal. All other restaurants were extremely accommodating, verifying with special plates or markers on the food that it was allergen free. Additionally, the majority of the sit down restaurants we went to (and even some of the fast food type places) brought out the chef to speak with my friend.
Overall I was disappointed as we were all looking forward to this meal, but our service was very poor and we did not feel comfortable with my friend eating based on the poor reactions we got from the service staff when we would confirm that an item was safe for her. We even had one server become very sarcastic and say "yeah yep 100% gluten free" as he smirked.
Celiac isn't a choice and we know it can be frustrating for servers, but of you claim to offer gluten free you should train your employees better.
The food and service was excellent. We asked for items that were no longer listed on the menu and the chef and staff were happy to accommodate our request. We have been here several times in the past for special occasions and we're always impressed but this was one of our best dinning experiences ever for us. We will be going again soon.
