Emerald Loop Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to Emerald Loop since they opened several years ago and they have never disappointed. Their mac and cheese is PHENOMENAL and service impeccable. It's a nice, cozy atmosphere. I had the classic mac and cheese with add-ons of caramelized onions and bacon. I don't think I can ever eat mac and cheese from anywhere else ever again.
We were in the city for a doctor's appointment and chose to arrive a day early to stay downtown and see some new places. The Emerald Loop was just across the street from our hotel and the description of the place caught our attention. Early Sunday afternoon, the place wasn't terribly busy so we really got to enjoy our visit. The food was wonderful, our waitress was very good, and overall we really fell in love with the place. We'll be back!
The restaurant was way understaffed. Service was slow. We waited forever for our server to initially appear, forever for drink refills, forever with dirty dishes on our table, etc. A couple of times we flagged down the manager, but he usually just stood around ignoring the needs of tables around him. No one asked how my food was. The meat was fatty and I could not eat most of it.
Food was mediocre to bad. I had the Sheppards pie and it was dry and really salty. Customers had the fish and chips and brisket which got no comment from them one way or the other. My wife had the fish as well and sad it tasted like grease and didn't care for it. Service was awful as the waitress felt it necessary to scold us for calling for her as she never came around. Wouldn't recommend.
My daughter and I ate at Emerald Loop before attending a concert downtown. I was surprised the place was fairly empty on a Saturday night, but I was glad it wasn't too crazy. We ordered the spinach dip for an appetizer, and immediately sent it back. It tasted like it was made with cheese soup and didn't taste good at all. We split a Caesar salad which was very good and very large, and I had the mac and cheese and she had the fish and chips. Both were decent, and we overall enjoyed our meal. Total, dinner was under $50 including tip, which is a great deal for a Saturday night downtown.
My wife and I had a great meal here. A small Smithwick's to begin and a full size Guinness with our meal. Happy hour gave us a great deal on the Guinness. We had an early dinner because of our train schedule. I had had the fish and chips. A huge portion of fish and a small fryer basket of fries. A little too much coating, but overall very good. My wife had the blackened salmon without the blackened. They were very accommodating. We had a window seat so we could watch all the people walking by. Outside seating, but it was raining.
The food was delicious. My husband and I both had the brisket grilled cheese and key lime pie for dessert. Both were amazing. However, we were there for a 430 reservation and service was very slow. There were hardly any people at the time so being busy was not the reason. My hubby ordered the Strawberry Basile Vodka and there was no alcohol in it. I really do no drink so I can taste alcohol in anything...this had ZERO. We commented to our server to which she replied it is a premix so the alcohol is already in there. Ummm...nope, someone messed up. $10 for a strawberry lemonade is pretty steep. Food is great...just do not expect much in service!
Needing a place for a pre-theater dinner, we found Emerald to be a good neighborhood place. We were there during Happy Hour so the bar area was quite noisy but the noise level was much lower away from the bar. We both had fish and chips. Very good fish, with the right amount of breading and quite crisp. The fries, though tasty, could have been crisper. Beer list was decent, with a nice, if typical, selection of Irish brews. Our server was pleasant and efficient. Prices, especially for the location, were quite reasonable.
Great atmosphere. Perfectly poured Guinness! Cheese balls delicious. Mussels were bad... half were not open (a big no no), broth salty yet bland and certainly not worth the money. Service was pleasant. Overall... it was okay. Seemed perfect for happy hour/bar food rather than fine dining.
Very disappointing. Hostess was rude, even with a reservation. With an empty room she continued to try and seat people next to the large table with screaming babies and strollers stacked next to table. An Irish Pub with ice cold mashed potatoes. Limited Irish selections.
Will not be back!
