Emerald Loop Bar and Grill Ratings and Reviews
Good casual spot with solid pub food. Can get crowded; the most recent night we were there it was packed and kitchen was slammed. Things were slow, food not as good as prior visits, but server did his best his to keep things moving and get us out the door in time for the nearby concert we were attending.
Ate here before seeing a show at the Oriental Theatre. Great atmosphere, food portions were huge! I had fish and chips and my husband had the shepherd's pie. We both really liked it but we could have shared the shepherd's pie. We had had a large pretzel before and couldn't decide if we preferred their cheese sauce or mustard...both were amazing! They had a lot of different whiskey and Irish beer.
I made a reservation for Saturday night, and when we arrived, the restaurant was not busy. I asked that we be seated in a part of the restaurant that was not as noisy. The host seated us directly underneath a speaker. We waited 15 minutes for someone to show up with water, at least. We finally gave up and walked back through to the host station. When I told him that no one ever showed up to take our order, he said "That's too bad," but offered no remedy to the situation. I have visited the EG several times before and never experienced this level of disregard.
Always a good time at Emerald Loop - their food has always been good, I come a few times per year. Had the nachos this last time, all of my coworkers were very impressed. Good spot for happy hour, I would recommend reserving a table. Can be extremely busy, or rather dead. Good patio seating in the summer.
The glasses we received for drinks had lipstick and residue on them. The server was incredibly busy and we had to try really hard to flag her down for drinks, food, etc. Overall, pretty underwhelming. But, it was close to the Chicago Theater, which was convenient for quick bite and drinks before seeing a show.
Great location. We took our elderly parents for dinner to Emerald Loop before a show at the Chicago Theatre. It was extremely loud and we had to yell (doesn't help that they are hard of hearing!) due to a company's holiday party in the bar. We would have booked a table in the rear of the restaurant had we known how loud it would be. Our server was fantastic. My dad enjoyed the fish and chips.
My wife and I ate a late night dinner and brunch the next day at this establishment. We found the food to be good. The brunch was a typical offering we felt that the food could have been warmer than it was and that the breakfast muffins etc, could have been fresher than they were. Actually enjoyed the dinner more as found the spinach dip to be quite good. Would have rated the food higher had we only had dinner and not the brunch. The place was quite, clean, cozy, and overall pleasing. We must admit that the service was quite good at both dinner and the brunch. Felt that the food was very reasonably priced remember you are in Chicago. The restaurant was very conveniently located in regard to the Hilton that we stayed at.
We stopped for dinner prior to the theater. All four ladies in our girls night out group ordered very different food and all loved our dinner. I personally had the brisket. It was extremely tender. I wish it had a bit less sauce. It was accompied by a very delicious Mac n cheese, cornbread, peach cobbler and coleslaw. Our service for drinks and check was a bit slow, however it was a busy Saturday night, so totally understandable. Would highly recommend this casual spot to grab a delicious bite of food. This bustling restaurant/bar would also make a great place to meet for drinks and appetizers.
I have been going to Emerald Loop since they opened several years ago and they have never disappointed. Their mac and cheese is PHENOMENAL and service impeccable. It's a nice, cozy atmosphere. I had the classic mac and cheese with add-ons of caramelized onions and bacon. I don't think I can ever eat mac and cheese from anywhere else ever again.
We were in the city for a doctor's appointment and chose to arrive a day early to stay downtown and see some new places. The Emerald Loop was just across the street from our hotel and the description of the place caught our attention. Early Sunday afternoon, the place wasn't terribly busy so we really got to enjoy our visit. The food was wonderful, our waitress was very good, and overall we really fell in love with the place. We'll be back!
The restaurant was way understaffed. Service was slow. We waited forever for our server to initially appear, forever for drink refills, forever with dirty dishes on our table, etc. A couple of times we flagged down the manager, but he usually just stood around ignoring the needs of tables around him. No one asked how my food was. The meat was fatty and I could not eat most of it.
Food was mediocre to bad. I had the Sheppards pie and it was dry and really salty. Customers had the fish and chips and brisket which got no comment from them one way or the other. My wife had the fish as well and sad it tasted like grease and didn't care for it. Service was awful as the waitress felt it necessary to scold us for calling for her as she never came around. Wouldn't recommend.
