The waitress took the order like a fast food place. No personally. This was not expected in a better restaurant. The sides were poor we had mashed potatos, cream spinach and brussel sprouts. The steaks were very good. I don't plan on going back.
The best food!
Great location. Not many options on menu. I could feel the wood through chairs. Service was ok but I expected more high end service.
The kind of quality & consistency we have come to expect from Elway’s.
My husband and I are long time second home owners in Vail. We usually grill steaks on our deck as it backs to Gore Creek and we can purchase good steaks in the Valley. With that said, we thought, “ let’s try Elways during restaurant week.” We frequent Sweet Basil, Montauk, Mountain Standard, Up the Creek, Terra Bistro, Vendettas and TiAmos. As I said, we don’t usually frequent steak restaurants. The good......My strip was wonderful and cooked perfectly. Our sides were amazing. Creamed spinach and Brussels sprouts. My husband’s prime rib was barely warm. He sent it back and it reappeared warm and overcooked. He ate it as he didn’t want to delay our dinner any longer. When he mentioned it at the end of the meal, our wonderful server had it removed. Things happen and all the above was resolved. The bad......My main complaint is the attitude of the hostess, perhaps she is the GM, and various other staff working during our visit. It is far from a welcoming place and I would go so far as to say, very condescending attitudes. Perhaps it’s because it’s the end of the season and a lot of people out for restaurant week are not normal patrons of Elway’s. It shouldn’t matter! Elway’s should try to maintain the environment that is expected of such an establishment, even during restaurant week. So disappointing!
Last year Elway's had a small steak that was the most delicious piece of meat I have ever tasted!!! for their Restaurant Week special. It came with fabulous mashed potatoes. This year it was also a small steak (no problem there for me) but it was not nearly as flavorful as last year and NO potatoes! So I was a bit disappointed. The waiter was great. We did order a side of the potatoes that were very good. The caesar salad was delicious but too big. I live in the Village and go to Elway's fairly often, most for the bar ad that great artichoke. But I was so looking forward to that steak from last year for dinner.
Meh - sides were cold. Prime rib was fatty and it was too dark for me to see it. Had to cut a lot away to get a decent bite. It was Restaurant week and seemed like the B team was working.
Great food great service!
Excellent food, served hot and Mark did an exceptional job. Only criticism is the spicyness of the deviled eggs, perhaps worth mentioning in menu. Always a pleasure in dining.
We picked Elways for one of our Vail $20.19 adventures. The $20.19 steak was fine but noting came with it. It seemed like everything else was priced to compensate for the lower entree price. We may try there once more
We decided to have our “Dining at Altitude” dinner specials at the bar. The bar person, Clark, took very good care of all our needs. Two thumbs up for Clark!!
Bad food. Over cooked. Ambiance is tired and loud. I like patio best but, no heaters on or service outside. This was my second time in a row with sub par food. I will not be going back.
The food and the service were off the charts. Can't wait to go back again. It was so good!
Service was not what I expected from a high end restaurant like Elway's! Our drink order was wrong to start with! Ordered Whiskey ginger ale (simple right?) We got Moonshine! We came in during Restaurant week, thought it would be a great time to try it out. appetizer was great we got the Artichoke Spinach Fondue, Delish! Entrees served alone upcharge for sides, well no one is gonna just have fish or steak right? Sides are ridiculously priced! what we thought would be a $100 meal turned out to be $200 with tip! Take note this was during restaurant week! Returning? I think Not!
Made reservations way in advance for birthday dinner. Ask for patio seating and got the worse table. Had a great view of cement wall.
The food was excellent and the server was very gracious and friendly.
Poor selection of menu items. We were told that at this time no more bone in steaks on the menu. Disappointing!!!
We were visiting Vail and I wanted some lamb. I had eaten at the Denver location and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were not disappointed, the rack of lamb was simply delicious, cooked perfectly as requested. The mashed potatoes were very nice and the Thai Brussel sprouts were interesting and tasted nice. I would highly recommend Elway's in Vail and Denver.
Great steak house. Got my filet done perfectly first time which isn’t easy- I’m picky. Service was excellent and attentive. Wine list was good and surprisingly priced reasonably. Complimentary valet!
The service that night was HORRIBLE!side dishes came when we were done with main course.Waitress didnt know if they had kids menu when we asked her.She never came to check if we needed more water, wine.Food took more than 60 min to arrive.Manager was embarrassed when we complained.I said we had never experienced such horrible service or non service.Food was excellent when it finally arrived
Great birthday dinner. My steak was cooked to perfection!
Started out great with wine and shrimp cocktail appetizers. Service became a bit fragmented between main server and sommelier. Staff was confused on whose table to bring food to, so we watched our steaks go to 2 other tables prior to our and the sides were incorrect. They shortly remedied and offered us a complimentary dessert for the mixup.
For $300 would expect a fine-dining restaurant to be more on top of it. Overall, meal and experience was good.
The number one spice in this restaurant is salt, number two is garlic. This leaves little left for the taste of the meat. Service was OK but the music was so loud I couldn’t hear the waitress, and she seemed upset that I couldn't hear her! The cut of NY strip was full of gristle and underdone for medium, which should be pink and warm. I’m not going back. Cheep salty food at expensive prices.
The restaurant was nice but wasn't the standard that I was expecting for the price. Steaks were served, we waited some time as we were expecting sides and gestured once for a reminder. The server came over a minute later to say they were on their way but we still waited, so managed to get through half of the steak before they arrived. The wine was lovely, the server was also very nice. Though there are ample other steak restaurants that are a better experience so I don't need to go back. It was a novelty though.
I had the lamb chop fondue for a main course and it was excellent. The waitress told me that it was excellent and she was RIGHT! The chops were cooked to order(med.rare) and served on a bed chopped sweet potatoes and also served with a spicy cheese dip. It was wonderful! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very pleasant.
Most expensive misery I’ve experienced. I requested a special desert via e-mail a day prior with no response. The asparagus was inedible. The table (outside) didn’t even have a tablecloth. We had to keep asking for bread, condiments and water. This place does NOT measure up to Elway’s standards. I’m surprised they can remain open given the surrounding competition.
We have celebrated our anniversary in Vail for numerous years, having celebrated at Elway’s for the past eight.
Tonight, we were, unfortunately, very disappointed. The service was unbelievably amateur....what happened to the first class team?
Thankfully.....The dinner was delicious but, as we poured our own wine, moved our used service to the side.. it was truly disappointing.
We will not return.
Great restaurant! We enjoyed the bar a couple of times for a nightcap, as well as enjoying a full meal on the patio. They were very accommodating and served a delicious steak and salmon!
Elways is always a great experience. The food & service were impeccable.
Friendly hostess, average bar, sub quality food
The steak was one of the best I have ever had anywhere. The total experience was on a par with Mastro's steak house.
Great steak !!!
Had a delicious meal celebrating our anniversary. The staff gave us a personalized card and dessert complimentary which was a nice surprise. Enjoyed it tremendously and will definitely return.
Had the privilege of sitting on the beautiful patio to have one of the best meals in memory. Loved everything we had from the hot, fresh rolls to the Spinach Artichoke Dip, the best wedge salad in Colorado, decadent mashed potatoes, homemade Lobster Tater Tots and a PERFECTLY cooked, medium-rare filet. Vasil's hospitality was outstanding. Can't wait to go back!
Great service and nice discussion about wine choices. We had halibut tacos and soup and salad, very good but the tortillas fell apart while eating. We dine at Elway’s every time we are in Vail and it is always a very solid choice for food and ambience.
As always, the steaks are amazing! Don't miss the sides- all are shareable and worth the price. Reason for the 4 star is that the service was off. Usually Elway's has impeccable service which you would expect for their price point. They were maybe understaffed? My steak came to me overcooked. They pleasantly replaced it and this time it was cooked to perfection!
Hostess initially tried to seat us at table immediately next to kitchen. We politely asked for one of many other available tables as restaurant at that time was only about 20% full. After 3 tries asking her nicely, she put us at very pleasant table. We had reservations for a couple of weeks
