ELWAY'S Downtown Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I shared a salad, steak, baked potato, and two drinks. For $150 (includes tip), the steak was below average. Do $55 filets have 1/4 fat?? Apparently this one did! Outstanding service (way to go Adam!) and the ambience is top notch. But you can't serve that kind of filet at that kind of price with that quality and expect a good review. Our normal go-to place is The Famous in Colorado Springs. The food is MUCH better. Sorry Elways - we love ya' - but don't do that . . .
We had a party of 3 and all ordered a filet in which we were going to request medium. Our waiter suggested median well which would still be pink center. Needless to say all of our steaks were burnt and over cooked. Just a bad experience when you pay $40 for a cut of meat.
I frequent Ruth’s Criss often and have never tried Elways and will not return. However, I was traveling from CA.
Several of us went to Elways for a business dinner. The ambiance was great, food and service were reasonably good, and wine selection was great. We tried several appetizers, ordered different salads, cuts of steak and desserts. All were tasty and well prepared.
This is the first time that we had eaten at this Elway's location, and we enjoyed it. We each had an appetizer (1/2 dozen oysters for me and chicken corn chowder for my husband) then split a wedge salad. My husband had a NY strip steak and I had the farm salmon, both of which were very good. I appreciated how the waiter told me that the chef cooks the salmon so that it's pretty rare in the middle; I like my salmon either raw or cooked through, not charred on the outside and raw in the middle. The waiter said he would let the chef know that I wanted it cooked to the point of being flaky, and that's the way it arrived. Which made me happy.
Have been here many times; something has changed. Poor service on a night that was not very busy; their server team was tostally out of synch and would disappear for 10 minutes at a time. Drinks were watered down and even the steaks were not that good. My wife’s steak came out raw but no one asked us for 10 minutes how the steak was. This was a $400 bill that felt like a hotel chain restaurant. I complained to the manager who took my name and gave me the general manager’s card (thanks, like telling me to tell someone who cares). I have not heard from anyone at the restaurant since then. We will not go back, ever!
I was very impressed with the outstanding service we received at Elway's. I was also very impressed with the appetizers as well as the main entrée. Went with some friends for a double birthday whilst we were visiting Denver and everyone was more than satisfied with the atmosphere, food and the waiting staff. Nothing but positive marks. Will definitely revisit when in Denver again.
My wife and I were celebrating our 15 year anniversary. We'd been here before on a previous special occasion and this place does not disappoint. Our hosts and waiters were awesome. Scott and Steven were the best. Thanks for making this a memorable occasion for us.
A tired, old, and worn out disappointment. For the money, Elway's Downtown is definitely not worth the time or another visit. The decor is dated, rich, clubby-scene from the early 2000's. The menus handed to us were had old and worn edges. The wine list, looked like an old remembrance book my grandma kept. All that would be fine if the food was wonderful, but it was terribly lacking in quality, taste and appearance. We started out with a bottle of wine and salads. My beet salad with mozzerala cheese was so chewy, I couldn't eat it. Next up, the prime rib and twice baked potato. Too cool and red for Med. Rare Plus, so I sent it back. It came back so cooked and tough it was inedible. The potato was pathetically tasteless, dry and again inedible. Lastly, we shared the fruit bread pudding with ice cream. It was cold, cold and slightly warmed in one part. The service was pretty good, friendly and mostly attentive. Dishes were completely removed from my partner's side while I sat there finishing my first undercooked, then overcooked meat.
The ambiance is very nice . Food is very good. Only complaint is wine list is exorbitantly priced. Higher than top NYC steakhouses. Maybe given Mr. Elway's stature in Denver they can get away with it - I found it very disappointing and taking away from an otherwise positive experience
