ELWAY'S Downtown Ratings and Reviews
Spectacular service by Anna with a great sense of humor to temper our crazy table. As with the other locations, perfection in our wine and food items: lamb fondue, shrimp cocktail, wedge salad, Maine lobster tails, filet, and baked potatoes. Never disappointed, always thrilled.
Service was prompt and thorough. Unlike most restaurants that check in on you midbite of your food. The staff checked on us sufficiently so that we felt cared for, but not annoyed. A staff member not assigned to us noticed my girlfriend's napkin had fallen when she went to the restroom. She retrieved a new one and folded it nicely and placed it on the table for her when she returned. The service was great, the atmosphere calm, aesthetically pleasing and the food was fantastic! One of the staff that seats people even took a few pictures of myself and my girlfriend in front of the Christmas tree in the entryway I have enclosed that picture. This was one of the highlights of our New Years 2018 celebration!
Before you read the rest of this review you need to know the bone in rib eye was the best steak I have ever had. Service was just ok both our servers were friendly enough but seem liked they weren’t coming by our table very often. They were checking on the bigger table across from us more often, maybe because there was a bigger tip than at a table of 2. Our server told my wife and I that the a al carte sides were bigger family style sides. We had the brussel sprout hash. It was very good but no where near big enough for two people to share. The other side we got was the twice baked potato. It was kind of dry and lacked really any flavor. Stay away from the $10 baked potato. Elway’s wine and whiskey list is unmatched if your looking for a drink. The drinks we had were good but a bit over priced in my opinion. Overall go to Elways for the steaks and don’t have high hopes for the rest of the food. It’s a longer dinning experience plan on being at the restaurant for two hours. We almost went to a different steak house while visiting Denver because of some of the mixed reviews. I’m glad we went to Elways.
Restaurant was very nice but the service was sub par. Waiter and waitress were not attentive at all. I ordered a cocktail and never got it. It took quite awhile before our servers introduced themselves. The food was outstanding! After we were done we sat and waited for about 15 minutes for our servers to return. We would have had desert but our servers treated us as if we were a bother. Again our food was memorable for sure!
We were celebrating my daughters Christmas birthday and there was terrible traffic from an accident on the way. Even though we were 40 minutes late for our reservation, the hosted, Jenna, was gracious enough to hold our table. Prices were higher than the normal menu, but I guess that is to be expected because there aren't a lot of restaurants open Christmas Day. Food was good - standouts were the baked potato dip, the short ribs and the smash burger. The salmon wasn't quite as good as I would have expected. Chocolate cake and Old Friend cocktail were also exceptional!
The food was very good as always. The service, however, was on par with a traditional chain restaurant. It was busy yet not out of the norm for a restaurant. We had very little contact with either of our servers after our meal arrived and couldn’t even get someone to top off our coffee after waiting 20 minutes for dessert. In all likelihood we will look elsewhere in the future.
I dined here for the first time on Christmas Day. The fillet was great. Could not have been better. Unfortunately my first course, a wedge salad, was never served. The wait for my meal was longer than normal and then the main course was served without the salad I ordered. Although the steak was wonderful, the 2 sides asparagus and potatoes au gratin were almost cold, barely above room temp. I was offered desert free because of the forgotten salad. My bill for one person with $20 tip was $100. Overall a very disappointing experience and meal. Great steak, but unfortunately a disappointing experience.
Our service with Jeff was great. It was a our big blended family and we enjoyed the circular table and great food. That hostess whose name I don't know is super facetious and annoying. I've dealt with her before and don't care for her know it all manner at all. Much prefer the Cherry Creek hostesses who are down to earth and not so patronizing.
Poor service, steak had to be sent back because it was undercooked. Waitress said medium plus was no problem but it came back medium rare. Waitress never checked on us, had to ask the manager for assistance. It seemed nobody cared about the guests and was understaffed. Manager was good he had to clear the table for us. Big disappointment for us on our Christmas Eve.
We dined here on Christmas Eve and were so disappointed. Our food was mediocre at best, steak was tough and crab cake bland. Our server was inattentive and forgot to bring our potatoes. The restaurant was so cold we couldn't remove our coats, we asked if the heat could be turned up (on?) and by the time we finished our meal the thermostat on the wall behind us read 68. It was not festive, a few simple wreaths adorned the walls. No Christmas music was playing. For the amount of money we spent we expected a nice, fine dining Christmas Eve experience. We won't be going back.
I spent close to $300 on my meal and got a steak that was barely warm the staff were a little snooty but the overall atmosphere was upscale and comfortable but for what I paid I’d at least expect hot food and friendly staff maybe it was a off night who knows I still had a good time just don’t know if I’d return
We chose Elway's for our 35th Anniversary dinner for the two of us, and it turned out to be the right choice. The steaks (filet and bone-in ribeye) were perfect : tender flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Wife had their beet salad which was devine. I had the Caesar salad, which was as expected.
The thing that set the visit apart from so many others though was the attentive service--down to keeping my water glass full. One example--they delivered an incorrect steak. While the bone - in filet looked delicious, it was not what I ordered. I called it to their attention and without any question they took it back and were able to produce the proper steak in less than a minute. (they had turned my order into the kitchen incorrectly, but agreed it was their mistake) That way, I didn't have to sit and wait while my wife ate. They also noted our anniversary and comped us a special dessert. We will return to Elway's.
