Southwest
ELOISA-

My grandma Eloisa Rivera was the first person to teach me how to cook. Indeed, women have always formed the foundation of New Mexico’s culinary heritage. Abuelas. Madres. Tias. Hermanas. Their hearts and their hands have been in every dish associated with New Mexico. Among the world’s great cuisines, New Mexican cooking is undoubtedly the most elemental. Fiery chiles. Earthy beans. Ethereal corn. Celestial water from the acequias that irrigate the ranchos. Our cocina celebrates Grandma Eloisa, all Southwestern women, and their satisfying, down-to-earth foods.

We loved everything about this restaurant. My only issue was that they seated us next to another couple when there were many open tables. We’ll definitely return to Eloisa when we’re in Santa Fe next time.

We went for an early dinner on Valentine's Day and then returned the next evening and sat at the bar. The food and service was excellent. There was a prix fixe Valentine's Dinner that was an amazing value but alas I had eaten a late lunch. Do try the trout - it was excellent. The wine by the glass list was well priced and a good value. Would recommend again.

Excellent food: tortilla appetizer, ruby trout special, orange tres leches cake were all excellent. The coconut ice cream on top of the chocolate cremeaux was excellent, but the chocolate portion -- a disk of dense chocolate -- was so firm that it was difficult to cut into with the spoon provided. Excellent flavor once a bite had been managed, but the two of us actually gave up on eating it because of the difficulty. Service was attentive, and we appreciated the complimentary glasses of champagne she brought when the birthday occasion for this lunch was mentioned. The room was light and attractive, though the lack of any softness made the noise level, even when not very full, seem a little too loud for easy private conversation. The one complaint would be that plate-removal service jumped the gun at least twice, asking to remove, and once actually removing, plates from which food was still being eaten. That is not courteous and welcoming behavior -- even if the next course is ready to be served, one should not have to hold the last bites of one's appetizer in the air because the plate's been snagged. I'll happily go back to Eloisa for the nice room and wonderful food, hoping that the early-removal problem will have been remedied.

I will be returning for lunch next week. Everything was beautifully presented as well as delicious, including the drinks. My only dissatisfaction is that I would have liked to be asked if I wanted a straw before more of that harmful plastic entered our communal waste.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal with friends at Eloisa, located inside the Drury Hotel. The menu, viewed online, looked intriguing and this was one of those rare instances where the reality met and exceeded expectations. Eloisa is a lovely venue, and the everything we had, from appetizers through dessert, was exceptional. The brisket enchilada was a unique and highly successful take on this ubiquitous dish, with a subtle sauce, tasty brisket, and no onions or other overwhelming flavors to distract from the star ingredients. We went on Super Bowl night, so the crowd was sparse and noise level low, which enhanced the meal.

Great food! I had the pastrami tacos and the fresh guacamole. The dessert was mole ice cream and I got the classic hot drink, bourbon with honey.

I am extremely picky eater. I thought this was some of the best food I have eaten anywhere-NYC, New Orleans, Dallas, etc. my filet was absolutely divine. My son loved it and his Mac and cheese. My husband enjoyed his chicken queso as well. We had no room for dessert. 😢

We had a wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner with great friends. I would highly recommend Eloisa. The only problem was that Open Table quoted a $75 per person price when the actual price was $95 per person for a 4 course dinner with champagne. Eloisa was gracious enough to give us a free cocktail per person to compensate even though it was not their fault. We all were very impressed with the food and service.

My wife we went early to have a cocktail prior to dinner. Their website made the bar look nice once in the bar area it felt bland. We had a nice waitress who had full knowledge of the menu. After we had a salad, it took way to long for the main meal to arrive. My dinner was perfect, I ordered their steak special. My wife ordered the lamb, but unfortunately the first chop was under cooked and the second one was over cooked, neither chop was even warm. We mentioned this to a female manager (I think) & within no time my wife had two new chops cooked perfectly. When the meal was first served, they apologized for the time it took & they told us that the chef was going to comp us dessert...which they did.

Enjoyable meal. A little uncertain when we arrived but they course corrected and got us at the table we requested. Servers might need s little more training. Dining table was too big for servers and bussers to reach and we had to assist. Really good meal but we did not care for the bison ravioli. Perhaps too “creative” of a dish. Trout and brisket were delish.

We had a superb prix fixe Christmas Day dinner here. We weren't sure what to expect, as the restaurant is connected to a hotel, but we were more than impressed with every aspect of the dinner. Beautiful plating and presentation, and each course was better than the previous. This is one of the better dining experiences I have had in Santa Fe and I will definitely be back to try some offerings from their standard menu.

The food was excellent, but maybe because it was Christmas Eve, the service was incredibly hurried. If you put down your fork, somebody was there to clear your plate, and when it was cleared, the next course hit with a bang. We complained to our waiter and he slowed things down. But good food was undermined by a lack of time to enjoy it. They offered a champagne course and the champagne and that arrived at the same time as our ordered bottle of wine. The hors d'oeuvres served along side the drink was cleared before it was finished. In short, the whole dining experience was not as pleasant as the food. We understand the restaurants need turnover, but this was turning us over also.

Inspired takes on the usual dishes found on Santa Fe menus. Guajillo Shrimp (appetizer or entree) and tres leches (desert) were exceptional. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Kudos to our server Miguel: he knows the menu and how to orchestrate a meal. The ambience of this large restaurant is somewhat spartan and a bit odd but, this is easily outweighed by the overall quality of the dining experience. Prices are better than most restaurants of comparable quality in Santa Fe. We would not hesitate to bring out-of-town guests to Eloisa. And, will be back.
