The service and food are always a delight- Elm is a special treat when you need to have fresh flavors and a friendly atmosphere. Thank you
Indifferent service, had to repeatedly ask for wine refills. Food was mediocre. This used to be one of the few restaurants in New Canaan that approached Manhattan ambiance and standards. It is now a casual, family eatery with food, service and ambiance ( diners in sweats and sneakers, loud bar TV ) to match.
Ok for a quick lunch or fast meal when better venues are booked.
Definitely a place to avoid for special occasions.
burgers and cocktails are top notch, nice atmosphere, broad menu, some items a bit pricey but worth it
The Pork bowl is delicious
Food was excellent but we ate there on Christmas Eve and it was super expensive. Will definitely go again when not a Holiday.
Great meal. Shared several appetizers and entrees. All were excellent.
Fabulous food and even better service
My friend and I both asked for diver scallops to be well-cooked (which they weren’t.) 4 scallops served in a bowl on a bed of assorted things that my friend described as “mush” represented a very poor value for a $30 entree.
Everything was wonderful! We had a great booth in the bar area and were sat immediately. Service was prompt, professional & helpful with the menu. The food is always excellent. Definitely recommend!
Small plates were all terrific, but the chef here undeniably has a way with fresh pasta- bucatini with vodka sauce and burrata was clever and the tagliatelle with shaved white truffles was perfectly executed (and a few bucks cheaper than I'm used to in the city).
Food was great. Wines were very pricey. Decor and ambiance were great, too. I wouldn’t bring kids if they are picky eaters as there isn’t much to offer them. Great for “foodie” adults.
Couldn’t fault it.
Dinner impressed. Greatly improved over when Elm first opened. We had vowed not to return ,but being locals, we thought we’d give it another try.
Service was attentive, although instead of bringing me a surprise treat for my birthday they just brought the bill. (Despite the hostess asking if I was the one having a birthday that day.) in any case, that was a minor blip. The rest of the service was very quick and thorough.
The cabbage salad with dried mangos was delicious, I’d return just for that. Likewise for the kale salad.
Steak frite was very good as was the veal scallopine.
Nice wine selection.
It was the first Saturday after thanksgiving and the place was full. A bit noisy for my taste, but not so bad that a table of two couldn’t carry on a conversation.
Thanks Elm, you just went from the bottom of my list to the top in one night!
Really good - food was excellent, and service
Ive been to this restaurant a few times and the food is consistently excellent. Certainly one of the top 3 restaurants in fairfield county. Dishes are varied and well executed. Highly recommend.
Fabulous food, service, ambiance, wine list. What more could you ask for?
We were a party of three on Thanksgiving and loved all the interesting food from tuna tartar, to red kale salad, to butternut squash/apple soup starters. The turkey with ginger/cranberry coulis and beef tenderloin entrees were delicious comfort food. The sides were also wonderful; loved the dressing with roasted pecans and the roasted Brussels sprouts, plus the mushrooms and onions! Pumpkin bourbon cheesecake with huckleberry sauce was phenomenal. The compact space has stylishly clean lines with modern art. Try to avoid selecting a near-the-entry window-front table when it is freezing outside; a booth would be a warmer option when newcomers enter Elm after you are seated. Overall, impressed with the chef and very happy with the attentive staff. Prices definitely reflect the New Canaan address, so keep that in mind if you are pricing sensitive.
(early) Thanksgiving dinner. Everything was excellent.
A great spot for a pre-Thanksgiving lunch with friends! And the best part is, all the dishes are sharable (from the apps to large salads) and the menu is inspired by different countries and cuisines, so there's plenty to please every palate and personality. Would highly recommend the kale salad with cherries and pistachio (ask to add rotisserie chicken on top!), along with the brussels sprouts pizza, guac & tostadas, and the French onion soup. 😋👌💯
Always delicious. The half chicken with polenta was wonderful.
Love Elm. The restaurant is always consistent and delicious. By far my favorite restaurant in New Canaan.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Great place , love the food ! Always reliable, pleasant service.
Celebrated a friend's birthday at Elm last night in the private dining room. Each dish was better than the next with highlights being: the limited-edition truffle burger, fried chicken app, shishito peppers with mole spices and every single pasta (cacio e pepe spaghetti, cavatelli with ‘nduja bolognese, carrot lumache with duck) — they are all insanely delicious. Even for a busy Saturday the service was exceptional and cocktails were top notch. Can't recommend Elm enough!
Service inattentive at best. Extremely loud and very difficult to have a conversation. Have been here many times and keep hoping for improvement. Salad way overdressed. Food not warm, let along hot, when served.
Excellent ingredients executed with a contemporary flair. Friendly service and a wine service that is smart without being voluminous in scale.
A very pleasant surprise. We had eaten at Elm before, but it had been quite some time and I didn't recall much about it. We really enjoyed our meal...the food was delicious!
Great experience--food was outstanding and service was perfect. Great drink menu. Felt very welcome. Perfect place to spend our anniversary. Will be back soon!
Incredibly inventive menu, but most importantly, delicious beyond belief. Every bit of my tuna tartare and candied fig salad, brought me genuine joy. Restrooms were immaculate, to boot, which matters a lot to an OCD girl like me.
Dinner at Elm was a wonderful experience all-around. From the wine list to the apps to the pastas to dessert — everything was exceptional! We especially loved the pumpkin and ricotta agnolotti... it was so good! Plus, it’s got great ambience and a super friendly staff in a cute location.
We have not been to the Elm in a while and we had a great evening. The service was excellent and the food quality was very good. A little expensive but, excellent food. We enjoyed a booth in the bar. I was surprised the restaurant was not busier on a Thursday evening. Highly recommended. Food service and atmosphere and located in the heart of town.
This is really a great restaurant. Love the food and the location. The service was a little lacking at times, but overall a good experience.
I don't usually eat chicken, but this restaurant brings the chicken to a whole other level. It's a beautiful and very tasty dish!
OUR FIRST TIME AT ELM AND WE WILL BEBACK. THE MENU WAS SEASONAL AND PLAYED TO THE FRESHEST OF INGREDIENTS. SERVICE WAS SPOT ON - NOT TOO OVERBEARING BUT JUST ATTENTIVE ENOUGH. HAD A FUN TIME PEOPLE WATCHING ON THE BUSY STREET OUTSIDE.
My husband and I dined at Elm this past Saturday night. From start to finish, it was a treat! From the Iberico ham and olives at the bar to our multi course dinner at the table, everything was delicious and perfectly executed. Favorites include the squash blossom pizza, the grilled little gem salad, the squid ink lumache and the carbonara and finally the veal scallopine. The carbonara isn't something I would usually order during the heat of August but this one was "summerized" with the addition of pea shoots and summer truffle. I am glad that chef Luke highly recommended the scallopine because again, although not a dish I would think of ordering, I am so glad we did! It was a lightened up version. The meat was tender and flavorful and the crispy broccoli on top was the perfect addition. Chef Luke takes seasonal cooking to a whole new level. Wine list is perfectly balanced with a selection of both old and new world wines. We found one of our favorite Barolo's on the list and couldn't resist. Our next visit will be in the Fall and I can't wait to see what's on the menu then! Highly recommend!
Brought my wife here for a date night. It was fairly crowded but our Open Table reservation went perfectly. The service was attentive and the food was spectacular! Both my wife and myself try to eat as close to Paleo as we can. I had the roasted chicken and she had the bronzina. Both were delicious. It is a bit on the pricey side for me to put it on my regular restaurant rotation, but for special occasions, I can’t recommend Elm enough.
It was a celebration with friends. The food and experience could not have been better. Thank you!
Table of 8 in the back room, very nice right next to the kitchen, able to be private but still part of the fun. Peppers and guacamole to share was a perfect starter for the table. Appetizers of the burrata, tuna tartare and chilled corn soup got raves, as did the skirt steak and especially the burger, declared to be best ever. Great selection of cocktails, wine and beer, service was friendly, looking forward to returning.
The wine selection was great and very moderately priced and the food was exceptional! Staff is warm and knowledgeable. There are lots of dining options in the area, but none of them hold a candle to Elm. Will be back for more.
