Ellyngton's at the Brown Palace Ratings and Reviews
We went with another couple, who like us, were celebrating a special anniversary. The four of us had a great time together. If you are hungry, enjoy a variety of delicious foods, appreciate top service and a lovely atmosphere, are never rushed, and want a good value for the price then Sunday brunch at Ellyngton's should be at the top of your list. We've enjoyed this brunch for several years, and there is none better in the metro area. We will return.
We have enjoyed Ellyngton's Sunday morning brunches on several occasions. They really set the standard for luxury brunches in Denver, with their extensive selection of delicious dishes, the lovely setting, a high quality pop/jazz trio, and good service. However, we found the Saturday brunch to be nothing special. The room was practically empty, which may have been a factor in the lackluster service - long waits for drinks, failure of the server to explain the choice of selections, when one of our party ordered a chardonnay, server's forgetting to bring the breads ordered until the kitchen staff assumed they were not wanted, and threw them out. The food quality was good, but nothing special. I have had corned-beef hash with eggs of at least equal quality at Village Inn, at a fraction of the cost. Still a very attractive setting, but, overall, quite a disappointment.
We ate here two days in a row during our stay at the Brown Palace. Due to limited options, we had the exact same breakfast on both days. The second day (Saturday) the omelet and potatoes were very oily and the coffee was very weak. The breakfast was better on our first day (Friday), but still not the quality or range of options that we would expect. Servers were very nice and helpful. Although it took a while to get coffee refills.
Christmas decorations provided a festive atmosphere. The meal was included as part of a breakfast package. The menu included typical breakfast items plus some original dishes. I ordered a custom omelette and my companion ordered a medley of tomatoes, eggs, potatoes, spinach and a cheese. Both meals had a good flavor and the portions large. The orange juice tasted fresh squeezed and was delicious. My decaf coffee was fresh. The only down side was our breakfast was delivered to another table and we sat waiting. The staff discovered the mistake, got our dishes to the table and comped the meal. They apologized many times, I felt they correctly made this a good experience and I would return.
The atmosphere is great for quiet conversations and the staff are attentive.
We enjoyed Christmas brunch here so much! The food was delicious, the servers were friendly, extremely welcoming and attentive. Upon being seated we were told to consider brunch an event, not just a meal! From the beautiful decorations to the lovely music it truly was an amazing experience. We will definitely make this a Christmas tradition and will be going back for Sunday brunches in the near future!
We had a very pleasant Christmas Lunch. The downside was, the ambiance with the hotel decorations this time of year were part of the reason we chose the Brown. Because they did not tell us, we were not aware that the entire lobby would be torn up and that the debutante ball rehearsal would take a good deal away from the magic of the time we had together.
Our reservation for the Champagne Brunch was for 12:45pm. We waited for 30 minutes to be seated. The "greeter" came over to us three times and pointed to a table right up front and said as soon as they cleared it we would be seated. Finally one of our party took a walk to the back area of the room and found two clean, vacant tables. When she informed the greeter of this he took us back and seated us there.
The restaurant removed several food areas they had provided in the past to put in more seating areas. I had always been able to get a very good fish selection. Not this year. I was sorry to see the decline in the Brown Palace Sunday Brunch.
Getting our food took too long more than 30 mins after we ordered. I don't know why but where we were sitting it was quite chilly, a few of us had to put our coats back on and it wasn't that cold out. The food was very well presented and tasted delicious but it just took too long. None of us had been to Ellyngtons before and wanted to see it for the holiday season, and celebrating one of the members in our group had a birthday. We had a lovely time.
I very rarely give reviews but feel I must comment on the lunch experience which was quite disappointing. Beginning with the person at the desk who headed us (4) towards a large table seating six people....I asked for another table... oh yes,.. no apology (we had a previously made reservation). We were not offered coffee or tea. But midway through the meal one friend asked for tea and the waiter never returned .... I, myself, was going to ask for coffee when he brought the tea. The waiter did apologize and kept saying how busy he was ... he arrived at the table in a rush.. when I wanted just a wedge of lemon for my crab cake we finally managed to get another waiter and then wait for the lemon. At the end of the meal, we had to actually get his attention from another table to bring us the checks and then we had to wait again for him to finally come back and return the credit card that I had used. So unfortunately we will never be returning to Ellynton's because of the foregoing. My friends were polite enough not to say anything until I asked their impression later and they all said they were equally disappointed.
Not sure it was worth the $200 for 2 for brunch. While it was nice the selections were not great. The area for getting your food was so crowded it took the enjoyment out of it. The omlet bar was so crowded it backed up the entire line because it was not a separate area. Only one pasta dish. Very little vegetable choices. All around it was not half as good as the Broadmoor or others. Pretty disappointed. Service was very good
We went for their Sunday brunch. The selection was amazing and all the food was great. The baked goods are all made in-house and the dessert buffet was one of a kind. We were there for Halloween brunch and the price was almost $20 more than the normal price, which we didn’t expect and I think that did make it a bit overpriced. Still - a great way to start the Sunday.
The Champagne Brunch was outstanding. Besides offering a carving station, sushi bar, made-to-order omelette station, they also had a made-to-order pancake station. For dessert, they had a double chocolate fountain offering both milk & white chocolate, standard dessert pairings, fresh dark hot chocolate and a bananas foster station. An excellent brunch for special occasions!!
