Ellicott Mills Brewing Company Ratings and Reviews
The rack of ribs and beer-battered rockfish were delicious, as well as the featured sides and Reeses peanut butter pie. Our server threw us a curve when he asked if he could bring us water, so we had to ask for beer and wine. Slightly disappointed that we didn't receive a Happy Anniversary acknowledgement.
First time patron. Sat in the bar area to watch one of the late afternoon basketball games. Bartender changed the channel to accommodate our wish. Both the seasonal Pumpkin and the Marzen home brews were very good. Dinner was tasty. Service was very attentive. All in all a very good experience. Glad to see the Ellicott City area has recovered; would go back again.
We moved in Ellicott City almost a year ago and tried most of the neighborhood restaurants. Booked a reservation at this place for two for the first time on a not so busy Saturday night. This is probably the only restaurants we've been to that most of the servers look very serious.
The lady gave us a table up stairs at the corner next to the kitchen hall. I requested the lady server if it's possible to be switched to another table. I had a not so happy experience of a server in a hurry and accidentally hitting my shoulder at some place. I'm avoiding that to happen again.
The lady responded by giving me a smirked and upset look and stated the obvious why she's giving us the table. She's trying to be argumentative which I found so amusing. Letting customers decide if they're comfortable on their seats and providing great service will keep them from coming back. Tried Crab/shrimp and mac and cheese was ok. My husband tried their Argentine steak with lots of fats left over. Very tasty though.
This is the first and I hope the last visit. I feel very reluctant to try this place before and now I know. Also, repair your tilting tables.
My friend and I met for lunch there. I expected standard bar fare but was very pleasantly surprised. I got the avocado stuffed with shrimp salad. It was delicious. My friend got the ahi tuna salad. At first it came with the tuna overdone, but they gladly took it back and gave her a new piece of tuna. The service people were friendly. We had a great lunch.
The building housing EC Brewing Company was a hardware store many years ago, and the three floors (basement bar area, first floor bar and dining area and second floor dining area) have been smartly adapted to the historic structure. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the food choices and frequently came over to refill drinks and ask if we needed anything. There is a good selection of home-brewed ales and lagers. The food menu is not spectacular in its variety but they execute well on their dishes. The bison burger is excellent. Good food, solid value in a terrific location and atmosphere. A refreshing change from the chain restaurants.
We hadn't been here in some time. We had read other reviews and so stuck to the basics which they did just fine -- crabcake sandwich and burger and fries. I had a pumpkin beer, which was nice but I was turned off by the cinnamon and sugar on the rim of the glass -- way too sweet and not a good idea for dinner.
Food was very good. Most of the party came for Tuesday lobster night (1 1/4 lb lobster and a side for $12.99! Only hassle was after we were seated upstairs, we were told lobster was only served in the bar area or ratskeller. So, we had to move downstairs. This requirement was not noted on the window sign or web site. I had the Weinersnitzal (sp?) which was excellent.
They do a great job of keeping the feel of the historic building. Service was outstanding. Their sampler of beers is a nice way to get a variety of types without over doing it. The wait staff was knowledgeable of the food and beer selections, was attentive to us and very friendly. The food was prepared perfectly, tasted great, was a good portion and reasonably priced. Overall a great experience! I will come again. The only downside was there were fewer selection of beer since the flood devastated the area, but Ellicott Mills has done a great job in the midst of those problems. I definitely recommend!
Great ambiance, excellent wait staff team. Appetizers and desserts are really good. An honorable mention for dinner goes to the Portobello mushroom burger. Desserts of all kinds are outstanding. We tried the PB pie, NY style cheesecake, and a Mexican banana pastry. Delicious!!
We enjoyed the atmosphere and the beer selection, but the food just didn't satisfy us. The flavors were fine but portions small (maybe we've grown accustomed to taking leftovers home) and only allowed for one side item. Of course, extras were available at extra charge. My daughter loved the burger but she only had about 10 french fries on the side. I had the half rack of ribs, which were small and not very meaty. I think there's potential here if they didn't leave us still hungry.
Good food, reasonable prices, and very good service in an historic building in historic Ellicott City. We went the Saturday before Valentine's Day for early dinner and were seated in the upper level which seemed a little more quieter than the bar area on the lower level. Nice beer selection, a good place to go if you just want to hang out and have a couple of beers and maybe some appetizers. I ordered wienershcnitzel and that was all that came out on the plate, the cost of the entree didn't include any sides...they were available for an additional charge per item.
We used to really enjoy going to Ellicott Mills Brewing Company because of their beer and food selection. We began visiting less frequently after one of our guests had found a sizable piece of glass in their food. Our guest noticed the glass before chewing or swallowing, so they were fine. The staff discounted out bill and gave us some coupons to use in the future - although we obviously would have preferred to be comped for the entire meal (seeing as how badly the situation COULD have resulted), we were okay with the result. Their daily specials seems to stay pretty much the same most of the time and I would say the food is good, but not necessarily great. If you ever visit when they have their Lobster Roll special - GET IT. It was definitely worth giving them another shot.
The food is just plain bad. The Caribbean chicken was just chicken with neon orange sauce and the rice pilaf was just beige rice. I paid $18 for a plate with just chicken and rice on it, no veggies, no garnish, nothing. I could've made this at home for $4. My wife's $20+ filet mignon was the fattiest piece of meat I've ever seen and it was still bleeding. Then the beers were flat and without much flavor. Maybe the taps needed a cleaning. I dunno. But the meal and all really wasn't worth the price. At least we got to spend a nice evening in historic Ellicott City. I should have heeded the advice of the other reviewers. Lesson learned.
