Ellen’s is our go to choice for comfort food! On this day, we were a little disappointed. The French onion soup had a wonderful broth, but the onions could have been browned more to enhance their flavor. The quiche was dense and delicious. The burger was medium rare not medium as ordered, but tasty, and the bun fresh — the tomato ripe and tasty.
Deleicious home sty,e cooking.
Ellen's was wonderful. We had to be inn the area for an event and we were lucky enough to end up here. Highly recommend. Perfect casual cafe with a nice covered patio out back (as long as you aren't tall...the fans hang pretty low!). Food was fresh and my salad was perfect.
There was 1 server for the entire place. She did the best she could. But due to that, the dining process was long. We had breakfast and the food was mediocre at best and there were open packages of breadsticks in our basket. Just not a great experience for what I wad expecting of the cute area.
Staff was unenthusiastic and the food was brought out cold. Nothing unique about the selection or quality. Paid more for what we could have eaten at Cracker Barrel, where the food would have likely been served hot and we wouldn’t have had to pay to park.
Our server was courteous and helpful. Wish I could remember his name. Unfortunately my son had a headache so didn't get to sit and enjoy as much as would have liked. Did get some delicious lemon meringue pie and enough fudge to take back and eat on our vacation and take home.
Cute little cafe nestled in downtown Spring. Parking was a bit difficult but bearable. The only problem I had was the prices. I realize that this is a small eatery run by the owners but the prices were way high. I had the Reuben sandwich, and grant you it was good. It was way too big to finish and perhaps if the size was a bit smaller they could charge a little less for it. I think it was $11.99 and that just seems way too expensive for a lunch size sandwich.
First time visit to Ellen’s for a girls lunch with my cousin. I ordered the crab and seafood salad sandwich. It was enjoyable but the bread was a bit much so I ate filling only. My cousin ate the quiche Lorraine which she said was fantastic. The restaurant was quiet with only a handful of patrons (lunch during weekday probably not indicative of normal crowds). We had a glass of wine each and a great time catching up.
1st time we've eaten here. Highly recommend.
Unfortunately we were close to a large party celebrating a birthday. Apparently they thought that meant they had the entire restaurant to themselves. After they left, it was a much better dining experience.
Quaint little restaurant in Old Town Spring. Service was very good. I would have to give the food a mixed review. Two of us had “Ellen’s Special” which consisted of potato soup and a crab salad sandwich. It was delicious! The other order was a slice of spinach bacon quiche and a small salad with blue cheese dressing. The salad was fresh and the homemade dressing was great but, the quiche tasted old and appeared to have just been warmed up in a microwave. However, overall ... I would definitely recommend Ellen’s Cafe and would go back again ... just don’t get the the quiche.
Another great meal at Ellen's!
Great food, ambiance, and reasonable prices! Highly recommended!
The food and atmosphere was amazing. My wife and mother really enjoyed your food and attention.
Best keish ever! Very delighted with our brunch outing yesterday..
We dined in for our anniversary. This was everything we were looking for, but it really was even better than I expected. I didn’t take pictures because I was so caught in the moment. My wife and I just had our 3rd child after relocating here. We don’t know many folks in the area and hardly ever get out on our own without the kids. I’m beyond appreciative that this rare opportunity with met with such hospitality and delicious dining. Thank you, Ellen’s cafe! The chef was so personable and gracious.
Good and service and Ambiance were very nice. The parking sucked
We did not know this restaurant was in the middle of the cute old town of Spring. There was a lot of post thanksgiving shoppers around. We enjoyed the shops and our lunch on a beautiful day. We had the lobster bisque, seafood and crab salad sandwich. Everything was delicious
The food was good but service was poor. Items ordered were never served but showed up on our final bill. Server asked at the end of our meal if we wanted those items to go.
My wife and I have common Birthdays and wanted to try some place different. We saw some good reviews on Ellen's. I checked on Open Table and saw they were serving dinner to 8:30PM but everything was sold out so we took a 5:30PM for two and listed occasion as Birthday. When we arrived, we had to wait awhile for a hostess to show up and seat us even though nobody other than one table was seated. I mentioned that I had a reservation but the person seating us just shrugged it off as all tables were available. We were seated at an average table for two close to the other table where people were seated where my wife ordered one of the few "generic" wines available and I ordered a Diet Coke. I was delivered a Dr. Pepper and my wife's wine was delivered in a champagne glass? We later saw that a better wine list may have been available but we were not offered it. We ordered our dinner and were told that the food would be ready shortly. On the table, there was a basket of onion bread sticks which we ate a few while we waited but they were kind of stale and dry and would have been better with some butter or a dip. While we waited we listened for our entire dinner to the only other table next to us as they were actually employees trying to figure out a discrepancy in the total when adding up their checks. We ran out of drinks and were not asked for refills so we eventually just asked our waitress for water. After quite a long wait, my wife's shrimp quesadilla and my bowl of gumbo and Frikadeller with green peppercorn sauce and braised red cabbage butter sautéed spaetzel were served. While I would have preferred to have the gumbo delivered before my main course, I will say that the quality and flavor of all of the food was outstanding! This was obviously a complex meal made from scratch by one chef, but I'm confused by the Open Table reservations after 5:30PM being unavailable as nobody else arrived during our meal. I also wonder how they would handle a full house?
Highly recommended. Excellent food at a good price. Complements to the Chef. Excellent service and very friendly staff. The Dinner menu has a variety of options to choose from and you won't be disappointed.
Our whole party loved their food at Ellen’s. Portions are generous, prices are good. I love the quicken and salad combo!
Was looking to eat a good sandwich while in Old Spring. Good sandwich!
Cute little place in Old Town Spring for lunch. Avocado, bacon, swiss, & tomato sandwich was delicious.
Very good food in a quaint setting in what is known as Old Town Spring, TX. We shared a crab cake which was tasty and had a nice crab to breading ratio. Both of us ordered the Frickdeller, an interesting dish. It is a flattened Danish meatball (pork, beef and carrots) served with a peppercorn sauce. It is accompanied with outstanding red cabbage and spaetzle. Unfortunately we were too full to try out what looked to be some delicious desserts. We would definitely recommend eating here.
Disappointed, this was rated 4.5 stars... far from it. Dinner meal was almost cold when served. Pasta was not good. High priced. Service was very good. Won't do that again.
Thanks for showing us an Awesome time.
They had a wonderful selection for Valentine’s Day and they did everything they could to make the evening special
We went at night and the staff was lovely and food was wonderful. It had a cool small town vibe.
Asked for scrambled eggs with American cheese inside and got very dry eggs with a little cheddar cheese sprinkled on top. It was expensive for $10.00 for two dried eggs and three small pancakes. The coffee seemed to be vending machine coffee which is weird for a restaurant. The place was nice and cozy and I have tried their fudge and liked it.
Good food and very friendly
Ellen's is the perfect small town feel right in Houston. Plus, the food is first class perfect made by well-trained Chef Matthew and Chef Jessica. We love going here and relaxing and knowing we will taste great food in a very comfortable atmosphere. World class food in a relaxed small town environment - perfect. Town to earth and easy.
The folks at Ellen's called to confirm my Open Table reservation. We were seated immediately, and the friendly and attentive staff took care of everything quickly. I had the chili dog, which was fantastic!
Everything was excellent. We had a wide variety between the 6 of us. Salads were great, German Frickadeller awesome, and crab cakes amazing.
Pleasant surprise when we tried Ellen's for our first time. Waitress was very sweet and helpful with tips on what to get. We enjoyed everything we had especially the crab/ lobster cake appetizer. We will definitely return. Save room for dessert b/c the pecan praline bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream was amazing.
Dinner with the family in Old Town Spring. Overall good experience, food was good.
First time for dinner, took 45 mins before we received our meal, some items are made order , I recommend the Lobster Crab Cakes & the Frikadella. Lunch time, I've been many times and their quick. The soups are made daily from scratch.
Favorite Sandwich Reuben and Chicken salad.
Overall Best diner in Old Town Spring, fresh foods, great service.
Great food and great service.
Their signature dish from their personal travels to Germany was so yummy!
My husband and I were passing through Houston and found this gem on OpenTable. The food was excellent, service was friendly and the town was adorable!! We will be back!
