Ella's Bistro - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit to Ella's and we were impressed. There was an authenticity about the French cuisine that made selecting an entree a pleasant problem. The food was well-prepared, especially a beef short-rib dish that was better than other local, highly-rated venues.
Our dining area was a side room, easily quiet enough for conversation.
Only a slight service miscue detracted from our experience -- hardly an issue.
this quiet corner of the shopping center has an appropriate MAIN LINE atmosphere. they always serve excellent drinks. the food is outstanding. I am not a vegan but my friend had a butternut Squash with lentils that would have been a wonderful alternative to my best flank steak within 50 miles. Flank steak was delicious and done perfect. like the new fritz.
Love the new dishes! Very inventive chef. Squash special was so different and extremely delicious ! The Trout done to perfection! I have eaten here before but not for awhile. So glad we tried it again!! Love the decor and we had a very attentive server.
Well done all!!
Beautiful place, perfect for a ladies lunch or an elegant French dinner. But food needs work. Dinner entrees were just okay. Tarragon chicken salad at lunch was surprisingly boring. Service was a bit lackadaisical, waitress would disappear for long periods at lunch.
I would like to come back for the food, right now it is the ambience that is the sell.
Second visit to this diamond-in-the-rough. Yes, it's located in a not-so-charming shopping plaza, but the dining room inside is classy, elegant and comfortable. Mattie, our server, was very knowledgeable and thoughtful, paid just the right amount of attention to us. Food was again excellent. I hope to return many times.
Ella's Bistro has great ambience and décor with its equestrian-theme, the food is just delicious - everyone in my party was very pleased - and the small setting is perfect for an intimate gathering, to catch up with friends, or a special night out. Service was very good - attentive without being overbearing. The menu changes periodically with the seasons and I look forward to going back to see what new things they have cooked up.
The room is beautiful and so unexpected in a strip mall. We have eaten here several times but this time it was very disappointing. First of all I had trouble finding something I wanted to eat on the menu. Nothing really appealed to me. We decided to share the mussels but they were the worse mussel I have ever tasted. In fact, I wasn't sure they were fresh. They just tasted bad! I then had fish which was very ordinary. My husband had flank stead which he said was just ok. I hope they improve their food as it would be a shame to lose such a lovely place.
First visit was good, second one was a disappointment. Reserved a table in what was supposed to be a white-cloth restaurant and was offered instead to choose from one of the regular tables in the noisy, cold and uninviting bar area. Food was good, but the waiter way too busy with her end-of-shift calculations to pay attention to her customers. I was hoping to start eating there on a regular basis, but it's definitely not worth the money, won't go back.
We had a lovely meal here. There were adequate choices for vegetarians, and the kitchen was happy to hold the cheese for vegans. It is upscale, quiet, an excellent place for special occasions. The desserts--especially the poached pear--were thoughtfully constructed and delicious.
Every aspect of our experience at Ella's exceeded our expectations. I tried (and loved) a Zinfandel that our waitress paired with our dinners. We appreciated the attentive and thoughtful service. The food was very good and the portions filling.
I highly recommend Ella's for a date night and for special occasions. The main dining room has a cozy, upscale feel. The bar at Ella's is great as well for a more casual meal.
First time a Ella's Bistro. Ambiance, very good food, excellent server made our dining experience very special.
I ordered the Braised Lamb and my husband had Trout Almondine. Both entrées were delicious For dessert we ordered the sorbet, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We would definitely try Ella's Bistro for brunch/lunch the next time.
The food is delicious, including their special healthy menu as well. Try the poutine on the bar menu...to die for!!! Service is always a thumbs ups especially Chelsea the hostess. She always has a smile on her face, friendly and helpful with menu suggestions.
friends that I have not seen in months decided to get together for lunch. Some place with a lovely atmosphere, impeccable service and delicious food. Ella's is the place! We were able to catch up, it was quiet and we did not feel rushed at all. The Salade Nicoise was divine and the crab cakes were perfect. Highly recommended.
My husband and I went to Ella's Bistro for our 27th Wedding Anniversary. We picked it because I liked the menu but I had a good feeling. I was not wrong. The food was amazing!!! I wanted Caesar Salad which was not on the menu but the Chef did it anyway. It was delicious. My husband had the Trout and I had the New York Steak which was delicious. The dish presentation was really nice. We had the Banana Pudding for dessert and it was as amazing as everything we ate. I eat out a lot and travel and its one of the best restaurants I have eaten lately. I asked for the Chef and "Adam" came out. He was very young in his late twenties. I told him that he has a very bright future and that the food he cooked was amazing already. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates great food!!!! It was a rare find but one that we will keep on going too!!! You will not regret it and will agree with me. Adam thank you for a wonderful meal and for making our Anniversary very special. The service was excellent too.
We were delighted with the variety of dishes on the menu and chose things we'd only seen on the Food Network from top chefs. Each dish was not only beautiful and delicious, but we paused to savor each bite. The service was excellent - helpful without hovering. Dining at Ella's Bistro made our birthday celebration very special.
This was our first time at Ella's for dinner w/ another couple and we were all very pleased with our meals. Our server was outstanding and adorable. I liked my squash soup and duck and my husband had the hanger steak which he said was very good. We ordered a bread pudding to share for dessert which was slightly dry but tasty. I like mine with more of a custard consistency. The wine was also very good. It's a little pricey, but not more than any other nice restaurant in the area. We'll definitely be back!
The entries on the menu had a wonderful variety. The cheeseboard was out of this world as was the pear for dessert. The entree's were all wonderful. We had the steak frites, salmon, chicken and porkchop. The owner came around to the table which was very nice. I loved the different chandeliers in the dining room. The prices were a little high but overall this was a delightful evening for a ladies night out.
I was in town for an academic conference, and was staying at the hotel down the street from Ella's Bistro. I must admit that I was a little hesitant about the restaurant's location, tucked away near an Acme and K-Mart, but I was more than pleasantly surprised! The food was fantastic, and the service was just as good.
I made a reservation for 8:00pm on a Saturday night, and the amount of activity in the place was perfect for a nice dinner for two without feeling overwhelmed by others dining or by the wait staff.
Our server Clare was the right blend of enthusiastic foodie and professional/courteous staff. She seemed excited to share her thoughts on the menu when we asked for advice, but didn't feel the need to volunteer or interrupt with suggestions before reviewing the menu.
I definitely recommend Ella's Bistro when you are in the Wayne/Devon/Radnor area, and bring a healthy appetite!
Reviews I read beforehand indicated this was going to be a very nice occasion and they were right.
Restaurant is spacious. You won't feel crowded. We were a party of four, plus an infant and the large table was assigned to provide room plus a buffer to potentially avoid disturbing other diners. Seating was very comfortable. Tableware was high quality. Lighting was just right.
Menu was well-rounded. Three adults selected the Steak Frites. All enjoyed thoroughly. Fourth had the Braised Lamb. Sides were large enough for two to share.
Service was impeccable. Our waitress, Madi, clearly was well-trained and experienced and supported by an equally good team. Service was generally timely and discrete.
We had a couple very nicely presented desserts and coffee to top things off.
Given all the above, overall cost was just about right.
Location was a bit further than we normally travel for dinner, but was worth the drive for a special occasion.
