Ella Dining Room and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Ella exceeded all my expectations. I had contacted them earlier about some dietary restrictions I had, and received both a call and email from their manager, assuring me that they could accommodate. When I arrived with my party to dine, my waiter was fully prepped and gave me lots of options of how they could customize their menu to my needs. The food was absolutely delicious, and service was wonderfully accommodating. We also had a show to go to after dining, and our waiter both confirmed the time we needed to leave and made sure we got the bill in time. Thank you Ella!
We were 2 couples on a fairly quiet Tuesday for a special event. I enjoyed the rarely seen Orphan Whisky sampler. My buddy, who had never had a whisky sampler before, also ordered and enjoyed. We wanted to delay our dinner to allow for more time in the lounge and we were graciously accommodated.
Our server, Amber, was very animated and charming. She had an amusing personal story that related to our special event. She made helpful dining suggestions that we selected. She did get one item ordered incorrectly, but we chose to keep it as it was delicious. I know that she would have promptly replaced the item if we had wished her to do that.
Our ribeye was fatty, but maybe that's normal for that item. Dessert was light, delicious and well presented with a pea frond garnish.
The cost of the meal was 1 and 1/2 month's rent and utilities for me, but I expected that going in. I can't afford that expensive a meal often, but for a special event, it created the experience for my guests that I was shooting for. That's a great compliment as the other couple have dined at very exclusive restaurants costing thousands of dollars for 4 diners.
The only thing that I would change about Ella was our entrance experience. We arrived for cocktails before dining service began and were left alone to orient ourselves to self seating at the bar or lounge or to check in for our reservation. Unlike the restaurant that I work in (and most restaurants), there is no hostess stand as you enter. We wandered around for a bit. I then saw 2 employees off to the right. They were engaged in conversation so I waited for them to finish and then inquired about seating, cocktails etc. I was given the proper information but was not asked about dining or a reservation. I had to volunteer that I had a dining reservation.
This is all very different than my experience at any other nice restaurant and many vastly less expensive venues.
The absolute best of the best from the moment you step inside the door. The space is beautiful, quiet (that is a rarity that I really appreciate), and warm. The staff are professionals: knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. The cocktails are well-crafted, and the wine list is impressive. The food is phenomenal. We had oysters, bone marrow, lobster with gnocchi, and rack of lamb, all were outstanding. They have four or five different bubblies by the glass, and they let me sample before making a decision. I really can't recommend Ella enough. You will not be disappointed.
We were very disappointed in our visit on Friday night. We have been many times to Ella and we used to think it was first rate. Bad Night? Not sure, but the service was very slow and spotty. We ordered wine and a G&T and they were slow at the bar. Then we ordered a second bottle and one Martini and the wine came and 15 minutes later the martini came. Then the food?? They were just not watching to see what was going on. We also brought a bottle of our own very special wine as it was my birthday and they asked about that 3 times but did nothing about it. They also let the wine sit on the table and we had to almost beg to have someone open it. Corkage should include at least new glasses and opening the wine?? We will not be back until I see better ratings for this restaurant. Very sad as this was a go to place for us for years.
While the overall ambiance of the restaurant is lovely, we were seated by the noisy bar, with staff moving back and forth right by our table. The food was good but not worth the fairly steep prices. 16.5 for a small cheeseboard? Really? 11 for desserts? I must say the desserts were inventive, though, and good. The cheapest bottle of red wine we could find was 38, which wasn’t too bad, but it would be nice to have a few more choices in that range. The service was kind of uneven, too. We spent close to 300 and didn’t feel like we were treated particularly well.
Overall, I’d say Ella is overpriced and overrated. I felt the same way when I was last there several years ago.
This time I took my office to celebrate Christmas. Our server was very distracted and quite slow on response times. When she took so long that we couldn’t order dessert, it was disappointing. She seemed fine with it though and it might have been the only time she smiled. I realize Ella was full of groups celebrating but I wanted our experience to be a great one. This time was just, okay. Lobster roll was bland and the pasta was over- lemony. Chicken was great as always, as was the steak sandwich, and beet salad. I’ll always come back. I love this place.
The food was great however I don't beleive the waiter was attentive to our dietary needs. On several occasions, we requested no cheese on our beet salad and brussel sprouts however they both came with cheese. We picked out the cheese from the salad and asked a different waiter to bring us another brussel sprout. That was probably the only disapointing thing about our visit to Ellas. The food was very delicious.
We patronize Ella fairly often and love the caliber of the staff, food/menu and restaurant decor. I had the rib eye and unfortunately, although I ordered it well done, it was over cooked and difficult to chew. A good chef can cook a steak well done and keep it juicy and tender, and last time we visited, I had the same thing, so not sure what was wrong this time. My husband had the short rib which was very good and the burrata small plate was very tasty. Our main disappointment: my steak and the dessert menu. While we appreciate you trying to offer desserts that are off the beaten path, the dessert we had with cinnamon sugar ice cream and homemade donut (donut was not good) with corn flakes and chocolate milk had way too much going on. The best part was the ice cream. There wasn’t a rich chocolate dessert of any type on the menu and we were very disappointed. This is always a nice option. Lastly, we appreciated the server who kept our water glasses filled but please visit the table slightly less frequently. It can be disruptive if you’re trying to have a quiet dinner.
We went to Ella for the first time for my birthday dinner. I was really impressed by their cocktails and thought the appetizer selection seemed really appealing. We shared the bone marrow, which was fine but didn't really stand out. Similarly, our entrees (salmon and short ribs) were fine but unremarkable. The dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was quite good and an excellent finish to the meal. The best part of the meal was the service, which was superior in all aspects.
I love Ella. Sometimes their food choices are challenging flavors and not for everyone.
The service is amazing, but the place gets so loud when it's busy, the server can only really be heard by 1 person at the table at a time.
Gorgeous food, responsive staff.
DEFINITELY do the $5 valet!!!
I was not asked what occasion or if I had the experience of being at Ella. I was celebrating my 15th anniversary with my company which they spent for the meal. Also, celebrated my 54th birthday on that day of my dinner. The place is beautiful, but the service was below my standard and I am an easy person to get along with. I will say to people that the food was excellent, but set your own expectations on the service.
The food and table service were excellent; however, the evening began with a stern welcome from the hostess. We had 7:30 PM theater tickets at the Crest. I made the reservation on Open Table but called Ella to see if I could get a reservation earlier than 6:15, the earliest one listed. On the phone I was told we might be seated earlier if we arrived before 6:15. We arrived about 5:35 and were told we would be seated "on time." Even though the restaurant was virtually empty and it appeared we could be seated, we went to bar to await call. In view of the many empty tables, my daughter couldn't accept the wait and again approached the hostess. After much discussion and the reasoning intervention of another host, she finally agreed to seat us. Needless to say, at that point I was very annoyed by the unreasonable attitude of the hostess, and struggled to enjoy the restaurant experience. There were many empty tables throughout the dinner up to time we left at 7:20. The bill for the four of us was $445.00, reasonable enough for the dinner, but overshadowed by the initial unwelcoming experience. Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.
It was mine and my wife's date night that doesn't happen often. We decided to put all our chips in and eat at Ella's, highly recommended by many friends and family. My old class mate Ravin is a Chef for the Selland Chain. I went in with high expectations, and they were all fulfilled. Our server Ryan was very familiar with the menu items and ingredients which always makes the experience that much better. Overall, everything was wonderful. My wife and I had a wonderful evening! We will be back for the next seasonal menu.
