Ella Dining Room and Bar
Great atmosphere and excellent service. Most of the dishes were very good but my wife's filet mignon was less than inspiring. Not bad but nothing special for the price. But the appetizers and dessert were very good and our waiter was top notch. For what we spent it's a been there, done that location for us.
Other than noise level from bar area, everything was great.
We arrived about 30 minutes early and found a seat at the bar. I ordered an elderflower gimlet but modified it to be made with Hendricks instead of vodka. It was fantastic. My dining partner ordered a non-alcoholic gingery drink that was very tasty, along with a half dozen oysters.
Promptly at 5:30 we were seated at our table. As were were seated, I noticed that the hostess changed my napkin from a white one to a black one. I looked around and literally all other napkins were white. I asked our server about the napkin situation and was pleasantly surprised: if a lady is wearing black pants, they switch the napkin to avoid lint! How considerate!
Scott asked us if we were in a rush (we weren't) and paced our entire meal perfectly. I ordered a glass of champagne and we started with the caviar service, then we shared the Roquefort toast. I was worried it might be too heavy following the oysters & caviar, but the celery and mushroom salad perfectly balanced the heavy, salty cheese.
For dinner my dining partner chose the fried chicken and a side of brocollini. I had a bite and it was honestly some of the best friend chicken I've ever had. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the the breading was crunchy but light. For my main course I chose the scallops. They were cooked perfectly and not sandy at all. The light lemony sauce perfectly balanced the rest of the dish and the presentation was gorgeous.
For dessert, ordered the carrot cake donuts with cream cheese frosting and a cold brew martini. Both were delicious. My partner ordered the sorbet trio (dark chocolate, strawberry balsamic, and peach basil) which was AMAZING.
Overall we had a great experience. Everything was great but the highlights were definitely the caviar service and the sorbets. The food was wonderful, our meal was perfectly paced (over an hour and a half), and the service was impeccable. We made sure to compliment Scott to the manager on our way out and will definitely return.
As always Ella was perfect. Ronald Selland ranks among the best in california. I am often asked for a suggestion for a special dinner by friends and associates, Ella is always my preference. I have never gotten back a bad review from anyone. I have always had my needs met when requesting table seating. Ella is topnotch dining.
Very noisy. Food was very salty. Not an upscale dining venue. People come in shorts and sleeveless t shirts and flip flops. Some carried travel suitcases. Just a train station diner.
Ella is always a delight. We had a wonderful Mother's Day dinner. Well prepared and presented. Cocktails are of high quality as well as the food of course!
Great place for mothers day dinner. Kids food could gave been friendlier. Service was wonderful.
Service was attentive but not overbearing. Food was exquisitely displayed, cooked just how we wanted and delicious. We had steak, salmon, brie appetizer, little gem salad, pavlova and ice cream Sunday for dessert. The gin and tonic is to die for. Amazing place for a special occasion or just to have a delightful night out.
Went for Mother’s Day dinner and had a fabulous time. Special shout out to our server, Scott, who was outstanding. The entire meal was first class, from the mushroom soup to the pasta to the roast chicken. So glad we decided to go.
We mostly dine at Ella for special occasions but always enjoy our dining experience. It’s such a beautiful restaurant and service is top notch.
My parents were excited to try Ella out and the experience delivered and they plan on going back soon!
I have eaten at the top fine dining restaurants in NYC, Miami, and Dallas. This restaurant is a class above. My husband and I both agreed that it was the best meal of our lives.
We have been here before and we’re been wow’d by the experience. This last outing was sub-par — paella was extremely salty, wait staff did not know how to debone fish for 96 year mother, and favs beans were inedible. We hope it was an off night.
Most overrated restaurant I can remember. Food was bland, choices limited, and prices high. Sacramento has many better options.
Ella restaurant is good dining . The only complaint I have is that they sit us so close to other table . It feels so cramp.
The food, service, and ambiance were amazing. It's a little pricey but you get what you pay for, indeed.
I travel to Sacramento about once a year and usually make a point to dine at Ella Dining Room and Bar. Delicious farm to table food in a great ambience. Service is top notch. Deep diverse wine list to accommodate a variety of tastes and styles. Highly recommend.
We went for the Paella and were disappointed. It was done as a small single dish and we were expecting traditional Spanish Paella which would come to serve the four of us in a family skillet with lots of saffron. In stead we would have to order 4 separate with little of the dish that we would recognize except it did have sea morsels included. We asked for some additional bread and it never came. Silverware was taken with a course but not replaced unless we asked for it. Our waiter was pleasant but perhaps had to many tables to accommodate. Not what I would have expected from Ella's.
Absolutely love the service and the food. Had the paella and it was yummy. The toffee pudding was fantastic for dessert as well!
We came here for our anniversary. It was a Saturday night. The restaurant is elegant but simple.
We were seated by the window.
Service is very good. Only one hiccup, ordered a second drink and it was left behind, had to remind waiter.
Food was on point. For starters I had the marinated beet salad. It was excellent. Husband had the oysters, said they were very good.
Entrees I had the seared scallops, they were very good. Husband had the paella, also very good.
Dessert we shared the carrot cake donuts with cream cheese and walnuts, a unique twist and also very good.
Drinks I had a lemon drop that was very tasty and husband had the original gin and tonic. No complaints.
This is a very nice restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. Our waiter acknowledged our anniversary and they brought out a scoop of ice cream with a candle on it with our dessert. Nice touch.
Their wine list is extensive and you could spend a small fortune on a bottle. They also have whiskey flights.
They have $5 valet parking, it is worth it.
Excellent dining experience.
A wonderful birthday dinner for me! The scallops were to die for, cooked to perfection. Sticky Toffee Pudding ended it beautifully!
Relatively good food, great service and unique and modern atmosphere and decorations.
The most delicious meal we’ve had in years! The menu included several Spanish dishes so we chose grilled octopus for an appetizer and Paella for a main course. Both dishes were perfect. The service was excellent. Ella Dining is the best restaurant in town.
This was our first time here and it was our Anniversary and I stated that in reservation and did not get anything mentioned or asked about it...
While waiter was removing initial plates on table with Ella logo on them both plates hit each other and peace’s broke off plate and came all over me, Table, drink and other items on table.
Place was loud and we were seated by where all the waiters are grabbing items and passing lots of constant foot traffic.
No manager came talk to us or did we get any type of discount on our bill for the bad experience.
Classy restaurant close to the Capitol. Exceptional service - we were reseated to a better table with no problem; Scott was an excellent server. Starters were terrific - a pea based gazpacho and a beet salad. We both had lamb - the shank was good, but the rib chops were a disappointment and poor value for money.
This was a special occasion lunch. We ordered an appetizer to share and the server also put our meals in early so we were seated at a small table eating our lunch and were told to move our appetizer plate, use our bread plates and make it work. "the kitchen had a big rush so we wanted to get your order in" and we look around and tables were looking empty (perhaps there was a party in a hidden room?). The champagne was not chilled according to my dining companion. I thought it was fine enough. The menu does not indicate the sandwich comes with a side salad so I ordered a side as at high-end restaurants you have to pay separately for a side. It wasn't the glamorous lunch that I had hoped. The food was delicious and high quality but the service was not the best. When opting for fine dining the service is essential or else I could have great cheap eats I would go next door to Brasserie for the next special occasion.
It was a return visit for us and we had high hopes for another fabulous dinner. We split the Beet Salad and then she enjoyed the salmon while I had the Lamb Shank. I probably could have asked a few more questions and I may have selected the pasta entree. It seemed noisier than before since we were seated around other larger tables that were filled with groups. While we were there on a Friday night, we noticed that the bar area had seats available during and after Happy Hour. We’ll be back to give that option a try.
Great food and service as always. The sommelier hit a major home run with his wine pairing for two quite different main courses. A delightful experience. We will be back.
Everything was lovely. We were just disappointed when we realized they hadn’t given us our take home boxes. I sent them a message with no response.
Over-rated. Over-priced. Marginal service The salmon was bland and tasteless and fishy. Salads were good, had a Rose that cost $60 and tasted like a 60's Gallo wine. Yucky. They need a sommelier's touch. I guess that's the best Sacramento can offer at this stage of its development.
The food was spectacular! Served quickly and sensitively with attention to detail. Each dish was beautifully crafted like an art work and hot and ample. Haven’t had such good service and delectable food in quite a while!
Great place to have an intimate dinner with your significant other
My steak was undercooked and had to be send back. I had already put about 1/3 of the side dish of potatoes we ordered on the plate that was taken back, which was disappointing since that was the best tasting food I ate that night. I sat waiting 5 minutes watching my wife eat before someone brought me a small plate to use for the Potatoes and Asparagus. Nothing was done to address the time I spent watching someone else eat and the food was not as good as similar quality restaurants I have been to. Overall I was not very impressed with my first dining experience at Ella.
Anniversary dinner. The service is incomparable...we had about 6 waitstaff deliver various services and each one wished us a Happy Anniversary. The food is very good, I liked the appetizers and salads more than the main course although it was very good. Prices are expensive but when you dine here, you are assured of a great meal. I like the fact that you can make your meal as formal or informal as you wish. They have high top seating for a more casual dining experience. Extensive wine menu best explored with another couple who enjoy and understand fine wine.
Amazing food and service. They took care of every request my pregnant wife had. Can’t wait to come back
Wonderful dinner with family - specialty of the month was Lamb- very good service
It was an amazing experience overall. I am a chef, so naturally I was particularly hard on the food and to my surprise it meet almost every single level of expectation. From the apps, entrees, desserts, and cocktails were amazing and they had enough kick not just a thimble of the good stuff. The service was exceptional. Overall ambience was exceptional, my wife really loved everything about it her birthday experience was everything she wanted.
The service is amazing! The food was amazing and the seasonal options were spot on! Highly recommend!!
Ella is consistently one of the best restaurants in town. I would go for the Steak Tartare, alone. We took our entire office for a tax day celebration and everything was wonderful. We especially enjoyed our server, Jeremy, who was so helpful and entertaining.
