Ella Dining Room and Bar
Excellent staff! I had a wonderful experience.
For the dine downtown if was a great value. For normal business i would save for a special occasion.
We did appreciate the low noise level, but we found nothing outstanding. We'll try elsewhere.
Bar area is horrible! too hard to just grab a drink before dinner without teaching over people having dinner! Not enough bartenders to help people. We waited in a corner 4 of us and it felt awkward. Love love love sellunds but Ella was just on. I would not rush back. Ordered angry crab for $65. It was not cracked at all and super difficult to eat. Brussels were gooped on with some odd sauce.....
Great food and service
Was at Ella for a business lunch. The food was enjoyable, but the opportunity to conduct business was difficult. The bar area was full with no separation with the dining area. The welcoming by the host was very nice, but the service was just ok. Our wait person seemed to be stretched too far. We had to engage her verses her being proactive. I may return to Ella in the future, but not for a business lunch.
This was my second time at Ella’s. The food is excellent, but I was a bit disappointed with the service. Our reservation was st 6:15, and we’re seated immediately, but once seated, eveything took a long time. Example, at one point I ordered a beer and it took 20 minutes for me to get it. I forgot I ordered it by the time it came. It also took awhile to clear the plates after eating. We were sitting at the table for awhile with dirty plates in front of us. I’m usually not too picky, but when dinner for 7 (2 children included) costs $650, my expectations are greater. Great food, but overall I will choose somewhere else next time. I’ll be back in 2020 and try again.
It was absolutely the best!! Caviar, champagne, duck breast, and more. I’m still reeling!!
Flawless service. Delicious food. Amazing experience.
As always, the food was delicious, well prepared and presentable. The service was a little less attentive than normal. But, overall the experience was great.
Food was good, entree portion was a bit small, service was poor. Waiter was a good guy, but seemed like he had too many tables to handle. I ended up being served by four different folks, felt like I got lost in the rush. For the price I would have expected better.
While typically excellent in all regards, our dinner was not this one particular time. Part of my plate was a bit over cooked, and all food came at once (appetizers, salad, main), and plopped on the table.
They were very accommodating when we arrived after the matinee & spent a half hour in the bar before we could move to the dinner table . All 7 of us enjoyed our delectable entrees. We got friendly and frequent service.
Ella just gets better and better. We went there with a guest this week and had a terrific dinner. Had the bone marrow appetizer and fresh oysters, both were out of this world. Two of us had rack of lamb, perhaps the best lamb I’ve ever had! The waiter was exceptional.
The New Year's Eve meal was expensive but very well worth it. The food was imaginative and well prepared. The food and wine pairings were excellent
My husband and I celebrated our second-year wedding anniversary on New Year's Eve at Ella's and we had the best meal we've ever had! Fantastic!
Excellent New Year's Dinner. The usual good service. We have celebrated New Years Eve at Ella now for several years.
Have never had a bad meal or service here! Great for special occasions. It's pretty expensive, but this is clearly one of the best restaurants in Northern California.
My husband had joined Ella’s for the New Years dinner. The food was impeccable; timing was perfect and the wine pairings were a great addition to the dinner
Wonderful dinner - great special menu and wine pairing.
Best for us in Sacramento . Good wine pairing and the menu very creative.
Food is great, thought the seating was a little to close together.
A great special occasion restaurant. The menu has featured items that you will not find in many local restaurants.
Everyone was very nice.. from the vallet guys to our servers and coat checkin guys. And very nice of the servers to wish me Happy Birthday whenever they dropped something off at our table. Loved the bone marrow appetizer and my filet mignon and my wife loved her fried chicken. And it was very nice of getting served a free dessert with a candle on it. Not expected at all. Great experience for my first time there. :)
We were very sadly disappointed in our dining experience at Ella. :( Having loved it in the past but having not dined here for some time, we were wowed when we walked in bc the space is just gorgeous. Our service, however, was so extremely underwhelming, beginning with not ordering drinks for a good ten minutes, then our drinks taking 20 minutes or so to arrive, to our server having zero connection with us (and we are pretty darn fun!) to our dinner taking a very long time (way beyond "ambiance") then finally, our entrees not coming out all at once but spaced! Very un-Sellands-like. We had wanted dessert but skipped it due to the poor experience. Food was good, not great. For example, aioli atop black cod broth becomes white droplets which are unappetizing. Salads were great, for sure!
Loved having dinner with close friends at Ella! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Food was excellent, ambiance was perfect and the service was top-notch. We will be returning.
We were given a nice window seat instead of being in middle of an aisle or right next to another two top. Desserts were yummy, especially Toffee pudding. Faucet in men’s room takes some familiarity with motion sensors to get water flow started.
Lovely holiday lunch. Service was very good, positive and helpful waitress. Food was delicious.
Ella’s is one of the best restaurants in Sacramento. The food and service is five star.
Scallops were to die for
Food was amazing! We were there for an anniversary dinner. It was a bit loud with a the large parties but probably to be expected at Christmas time. The wine selection could have been varied in price range as all the red selections were upwards of $100.00 +
Service was great Thank you Ella dining room for a wonderful night!
All was lovely and we enjoyed everything. Our server (and we) forgot our take home package of the $45 prime rib. More than half left. Who should remember, when the plate is taken away? Please let me know.
Ella is a stand out option from the notable Sellands Family Restaurant Group. This upscale eatery offers impeccable customer service, outstanding specials and one of Sacramento's best happy hours.
Our server immediately confirmed my OpenTable profile notes, including a food allergy and time restriction for our reservation. Our meal was delicious, productive and very enjoyable.
I recommend Ella Dining Room and Bar for all business functions as their service exceeds the industry standard. The food is rather lovely as well.
Ella is so elegant; my first of only 2 places for special occasions! I love that it attracts a wide range of people... Price means I can only go twice a year or so, which keeps it special!
The bone marrow was oh so good. And that Lamb!!
The service was wonderful; the dinner well paced. Our food, from oysters tartare to the sticky pudding was delicious. My only complaint is that the restaurant was cold- I didn’t take off my coat all evening. Our food arrived warm, but not hot. A restaurant of this caliber should not allow that to happen. Overall, a very nice evening
Always a wonderful experience. You get try very unique, fresh and tasty entrees. The ambience is romantic and comfortable. The popcorn toffee dessert was amazing.
We had a party of six. The service was impeccable. It was a great atmosphere and the food was excellent.
We had a reservation for 6 people for dinner at 6:30. We were seated RIGHT next to the bar, which was so loud that I asked to be moved. They weren't all that happy to move us, but they did. Still within earshot of the noisy bar, but definitely better.
It seemed to take a long time to get most things that we ordered. We had to ask for bread, and ask again when it ran out (several of us had soup and wanted bread to soak up every bite.) The cocktails and wine took a while to be delivered, however, the appetizers did arrive within an acceptable amount of time. Entrees were a tad later than they should have been, and dessert and coffee took more than a half hour to be delivered.
Oh -- and because we were celebrating our daughter's birthday, they brought her a complimentary dish of pumpkin ice cream...and charged us $2.00 for it. If it hadn't been after 9:00 p.m., and had our 7 year old granddaughter not needed to get home to bed, we probably would have brought it to the server's attention. We just didn't want to risk it taking an additional half hour to resolve.
The food and drinks, in spite of everything, were really great -- what we've come to expect from Ella, and why we tend to celebrate occasions there.
The service was great but the food was rather disappointing. Went there to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday and our filet's were grossly under-cooked. They had to be sent back to the kitchen only to come back to us over-cooked. Just very disappointing since this was such a special occasion and also our first time there. Everything is also very over-priced. Will not be going back.
