   I am a long time fan of Ella’s food and drinks and this was by far the least impressive of at least 10 visits since it reopened post covid. Service was great, as were the mixed drinks and beet salad. But 2 of 12 oysters were not fresh; the mignonette bland, the porcini crusted halibut uncooked at its center, and the ahi tuna unimpressive from a taste and plate preparation perspective. In general an uninspiring meal, not worth the premium pricing.

   Excellent food and service. We ordered and shared a scotch egg crap cake, the lobster carbonara and a halibut dish, finishing with the peach raspberry cobbler and bourbon ice cream. Everything exceeded expectations. Craft cocktails were equally well done. Amazing bourbon list.

   Everything went perfectly, the food was amazing and the server was outstanding. I wish I remembered his name but all his suggestions were spot on. Lamb ragú as out of this world.

    The service was good, but is to noisy for a restaurant like this … and they don’t have anything for kids , so if you have kids under 10 better to leave them home , and it’s expensive, but the food taste really good

    This is a great place for a friendly meet up, but not good for a date. It's way too loud to hear each other well. The food was good and the service was amazing.

    The atmosphere was nice, the service was spot on. However the dinner menu had a minute selection and no alternative options. The wine list selection in contrast was ever ending. The cocktails was nice and strong as well.

    Absolutely wonderful experience, we came here for our anniversary and won’t wait another year to come back again. The staff were attentive and friendly. I will say we also made sure to be polite in return and not add additional stress for the staff. Food was delicious. Try the carrot cake!

    Had dinner there as it was generally good. We sat at a table that was near where all the staff puts in orders and grabs dishes so it was very busy and not conducive to quiet conversation. The meal was generally good although my wife’s fish was cold. I will probably be back just trying different dishes. It does seem as if the staff is a little better than I remember They are still not top notch for the prices and style of the restaurant. For some reason they were insistent on taking our plates before we were done and it actually got a little ridiculous

    I want to love this place but it always feels like it falls short of the hype and expectation. I have been here multiple times and every time it falls short. The service is gracious when you get it, but most of time you're left sitting waiting for your food or for the commis waiter to continue to NOT acknowledge that your glass of ice tea has been empty for a while and only when you ask, is it refilled. It strives for the experience of a high end restaurant but without the quiet, confident, and unobtrusive service of one. Last time we were there. We were greeted promptly and water request was asked. Then waited at least 10-15 before our server came by to take our order. Our cheese course took 45 mins to arrive. During this time, my husband's ice tea glass was stared at multiple times by the commis (water person) waiter and walked by without even an ask for whether he would want a refill. Our primary server would come by and bring another one but we felt ignored. I suspect the pacing of our meal was stretched out but a meal that should have taken 1.5 hours to complete took over 2 and we were bored waiting around. The shining grace was the entrees we did receive were well conceived and well made. Even though it was my birthday, I declined ordering dessert because we didn't want to wait another 30 mins to receive it. There was plenty of staff around and they walked by us multiple times. I don't want to spend $60 for an entree and almost $200 (without more than 1 glass of wine) for two people for service to fall so short.

    We had a fantastic over all experience on our 43rd Anniversary. We went early and we seated outside which was fun to experience the essence of downtown while enjoying cocktails and fine wine. The service could not have been better and our choice of starters and entre were wonderful. Ella's does not disappoint.

    We hadn’t been to Ella in a few years and were happy to see a full crowd seemingly enjoying their delicious food and drinks in this most beautiful restaurant in downtown Sacramento. Our service, food, and drinks were outstanding. The only negative was a constant cool draft from an overhead fan. In spite of the chill, we loved everything that Ella is known for and can’t wait to return…maybe just not to same table!

    Ordered medium/medium rare tenderloin which came out blood rare. Drinks were really good as were the bone marrows. Service was attentive but rushed. Soup only consisted of croutons.

    We loved the food, staff and the ambience. Everything on the menu looked so good it took us all (5 of us) awhile just to decide what we were going to eat. It will be our new go to restaurant for a wonderful dining experience.

    Ella is our "go to" for all special occasions. I especially like the table seating to the left of the bar. It's quieter and with a hearing aid it's best for me. We start with oysters which never disappoint. I've always loved their scallops but this time tried the halibut. Sooo good!

    I acknowledge they were busy but they ran out of happy hour items. Happy hour oysters are the same price as the main menu. I ordered wine and fries with my main entree and had to ask for both more than once and they both were brought after main entrees finished. They didn’t try to make up for the negative experience or comp anything. How do you charge for a glass of wine specifically ordered at the same time as ordering a main entree that isn’t even able to be enjoyed with the main entree. Appalled by such a negative experience and will not return to a Selland Family restaurant if this is the standard they expect.

    Service was a bit slow but great. Filet mignon at 65$ was not cooked as requested and was so salty that the salty taste stayed in my mouth for an hour. Asparagus were burned The rest was great such as the tartar, the lobster and the desserts . I give a 3 star because screwing up a Filet Mignon is more negligent than poor quality restaurant as it was mostly great. The venue is also great.

    My wife and I celebrated her birthday with fine dining at Ella and we had the best dining experience we have had in several years anywhere. Each dish exploded with unique and luscious flavor combinations. We enjoyed the wood roasted artichoke hearts, tomato saffron soap, coal roasted beet salad, pan roasted king salmon, spring vegetable risotto and finished off with the scrumptious carrot cake. We lingered over each delectable bite. The service was as we prefer: friendly and attentive but not stuffy or overbearing, with our waiter steering us in the right direction at each turn, be it menu combinations to suite our tastes and appetite, recommendation of a new gin for a martini or a glass of sangiovese to offset the acidity of the tomato saffron soup, each time hitting the mark. It is nice to know Sacramento can deliver this kind of first rate, delightful dining experience.

    As always at Ella’s it was an amazing experience. I brought my mom here for a late Mother’s Day dinner and everything was very yummy and our server (I wish I remembered her name) was so informative and sweet. We ordered the Dungeness crab scotch egg with asparagus, the lobster pasta, oysters, beet salad,carrot cake, and the chocolate hazelnut crunch. Thank you all again for such a great time.
