I've been going to Ella since it first opened - and what a treat it used to be. These days, it feels a lot less special... the staff and their level of service lack refinement, the dining room is dated, the furniture is worn. And yet, the pricing is commensurate with an upscale experience.

We were excited to return to Ella after a few years, when traveling from Southern California to visit family in Sacramento. The fried chicken met with our expectations! The arugula salad was just fair and my companions beet salad had lox on top! He did not notice that on the menu…my dessert was described by our server as homemade and terrific - it was strawberries baked in a small cast iron skillet with crust atop. The berries were dry and the crust not up to standard. All and all, somewhat disappointing :(

Our table ordered the big Tamohawk Ribeye ($140) and it was cold. The waitress offered to send it back to the kitchen, but I declined. I really don't like sending food back. But she made it right, she took off the two appetizers.

Overall it was as expected, very good. The one issue was having a 2:00pm Reservation, offered by the resturant, but being informed, after we were seated, that the kitchen closes at 2:00pm, but not to worry as we would get our meal. That is Odd. Why offer a 2:00pm reservation and then tell your guest that - oh, by the way? kitchen closes at 2:00pm. Cheese Plate was not close to being finished and the Soups were placed. Yeah, a bit rushed. Service was Very Good and he did assure us that the meal would not be rushed. The Soup? well, that was a bit too soon. Still a nice experience, if not Rushed, in our minds, anyway. Next time it will be a Dinner(5:00pm) or simply Lunch.

I have dined at Ella and the service is usually really good. Unfortunately our experience last night was not good. It took 15min to get drinks and when we re-ordered drinks it was another 15minutes. Additionally apps and dinner came out without silverware so we all sat there looking at our food waiting 3 minutes for silverware. Not worth the 500 I spent to take my team out for a nice meal.

Due to crowds, had to dine outdoors and the multitudes of noisy streetcars going by - although we love public transportation! - were an unfortunate addition to what would have been a more enjoyable evening without all the clanging. One suggestion: the night was cool, and we were surprised that there were not radiant heaters in the space to keep diner's cozy. All this said, the service was exceptional, as well as the cuisine - we will return if we can book indoors !

Another awesome meal at Ella. Everything was great, from seating to dessert. Taylor G. was our server, and she was great! Walked us through the menu and explained some of the dishes we had questions about. We started with the crispy Maitake Mushrooms, my wife had the cauliflower soup, then I had the tenderloin and she had the fried chicken. Dessert was the strawberry cobbler. All of it was amazing.

Exemplary! Sellands never disappoints. Had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding here. Service was amazing, food was killer. And is it a great meal if there isn’t a comma in the number of your bill?! Worth every penny. They sat us at a spectacular table and I really enjoyed watching the food prep. I got the tomahawk it came with the most delicious and beautiful potato chip like thing I’ve ever very eaten. Beautiful. An amazing experience.

Dined with a friend before the Broadway show. We had a fabulous attentive server named Joyce! She was so friendly and took excellent care of us! The food was absolutely perfection! The cauliflower soup was delicious, our salads and salmon were cooked perfectly! It was a very enjoyable experience!

It was a rainy night and traffic was horrible. We called and let them know we would be late and they held our reservation Out waiter was awesome. The food was very good with fairly large portions at a fair price for fine dining. The wine prices were severely overpriced but we went for a nice bottle anyway. Next time we will bring wine and pay the corkage fees. We do not travel to downtown Sac very often but I would return or recommend to friends.

Went to a late dinner last night with my husband for a MUCH overdue date night and we had a great time. The restaurant had such a great vibe and we loved the decor. The service was 10/10 from start to finish even though we were not done with our meal until well after 11:00pm. The food was great! We had the bone marrow for a starter which was a new thing for both of us and we both thought it was very tasty. We shared the arugula salad which was good, but the most “basic” of the items we had. We also shared the Tomahawk steak which was delicious and totally worth the price. For sides, we had the roasted snap peas and Yukon gold potatoes, both delicious. For dessert, I had the sorbet and hubby had the hazelnut crunch. He loved it! We both also had a glass of wine which was brought out by a real life sommelier who was very nice! All in all a wonderful night out. We will be back!
