Casual, very pleasant place for lunch. Light cuisine terrific with lots of selections. Cozy environment with roomy tables in front.
My family and I have been regular diners at Eli's for 2-3 years (every other week routinely.)
During our last visit, at about the one hour mark, we were told to give up the table because people were waiting. Shocking, considering there were only several people at the door and other empty tables. They won't have to worry about that in the future, we will not be back...
Can a restaurant get better? In the case of Eli's table it really has. First the dining space has a more intimate feel to it. The staff, as always, is terrific. The wine list is exceptional. The food is well prepared, well presented, interesting and flavorful. Still, this is a pricey place that should be better at least more generous.
A favorite local restaurant that we frequent quite often. They have a delicious brunch on the weekends and the dinner menu is ever changing with excellent choices. The wine list is extensive with a extremely knowledgeable sommelier.
Fried zucchini was amazing. Loved the sliders. Finally a place with a decent noise level
amazing burgundies on wine list of decent age and reasonable price
A very pleasant evening, good food and wine and quiet enough to here friends talking.
The food was good, but somewhat uneven. Sweetbreads and pasta excellent, but fried zucchini very greasy and liver slightly overcooked.
Excellent food and service, pleasant atmosphere, jaw-dropping prices.
Eli's Table has a great wine list and an excellent selection of the freshest meats, fish and produce.
went there for Valentines Day dinner. nice décor, restaurant felt sophisticated. the wine sommelier checks in with each table which is a very nice touch, particularly since all the wines are European. they clearly price that service into the cost of the wine - at $22 per glass there are no bargains to be found. Table service was surprisingly mediocre - waiter forgot to bring the bread, and it took a long time to actually pay the bill which is always irritating. Food was good but the portions were very much on the small side. all in all - decent dining experience but I would not rush to return since price point was just too high for the value received
Eli's food is very good and the wine choices are excellent. Very quite and comfortable restaurant. It is a bit pricy, however.
Hard to sign on to steak for $89 per person. We didn’t . Chicken entree was tough. Nantucket scallops fist course delicious, pricey & not many . We were so looking forward to affordable good wines by the glass per reviews. Hard to come by. Bottom line - we went in q high expectations & were very disappointed
Extremely pleasant and cozy in one of the booths in back. Roast vegetable appetizer was unexpectedly delicious. Halibut was beautifully prepared and perfectly cooked. Pasta dish was perfect for a cold winter night. Portions are not huge, but nonetheless, we were too full to try a dessert... next time
Love when you eat Local and the food and wine are outstanding. From the shared oysters to the grilled shrimp and braised artichokes to our main course of arctic char and oxtail orecchiette everything was delicious. They have a wonderful and extremely knowledgeable sommelier. We love date nights at Eli's.
4 of us arrived @ 9:30 am for Sunday brunch. We had our pick of tables as empty. Wasn’t busy until we left around 11. Ham & cheddar Omelette that 2 of us had was huge & delicious. Would have been nice with side of potatoes but waiter said they haven’t offered potatoes for a long time. They were so nice in providing repeated hot water refill for my special brought from home decaf hot tea bags. All in all a really enjoyable meal.
The food (!) was spectacular, from the unusual but delicious halibutn tostadas through the amazing sweetbreads starter (maybe the best sweetbreads I've ever had), through the excellent poulet rouge, to the unbelievably delicious desserts--a chocolate lava cake to die for and an apricot tart with whipped cream that was complete out of this workd and light as a feather. The service was excellent, so it was surprising that the desserts took a while to get to us. The maitre d came by and apologized for the wait and offered us complimentary dessert wines to go with the desserts. The desserts were worth waiting for and the wines were excellent. Let me also add that my compari and soda cocktail was about the best version I've ever had of one of my favorite drinks . This is a spectacular place to eat and I'm starting to save up for a return visit.
The wines and sommelier are extraordinary. Many little-known Treasures of marvelous quality.
The food is always very imaginative and interesting. It is a wonderful quiet Refuge. We Dine at Eli's table 2 to 3 times a month.
We went on an unexpectedly-snowy night and pretty much had the place to ourselves. So, everything was great and I suspect our server would have been great whether the place empty or hopping The food was exceptional. It was just a really fun night and I’d go back again in a heartbeat. We had a party of eight and they were very accommodating.
They were overly crowded and had only one bartender so drinks were more than slow. Everything was slow. Our waitress was as good as she could be.
Good value – good food. Will definitely return.
Fantastic meal. Really delicious options- felt very rustic and authentic.
The service was outstanding.
Attractive space, not too noisy, great wine list by the glass, excellent service, very knowledgeable wine steward/manager, delicious poulet rouge and zucchini friti. A bit pricey but worth it.
My review is related to brunch, not dinner.
I went there for brunch. All my dining experiences at Zabar were excellent. Fine quality products, great service, amazing wine list.
So I’m still baffled on why there is such a gigantic disconnect with the brunch experience. Unresponsive management, poor service, i had to send the burger back (over cooked vs medium rare and tasted like cooked on slow burn vs seared/grilled). Club sandwich was not good either (tasteless from what my guest said). We ordered a Corton, and were given regular wine glasses. While there is chocolate croissant on the menu, when I asked the waiter said it would take 40mn, then said it wasn’t an option anymore. We were also asked to leave quickly as they needed to prepare for a party later in the afternoon.
The worst was when I gave feedback at the end of the meal to the manager and bar tender, they actually almost didn’t care, blaming Eli on why the quality / service was poor over lunch. So disappointing especially as I was referencing regularly Eli’s table from previous dinning experience. Clearly a management issue.
The food was very good. Friendly great service.
Not cozy.
If you do not want to hear what your companions are saying, this is a good bet. The food was fine, but the noise level ruined everything as far as I am concerned. The restaurant that preceded this one was quite different, with widely spaced tables and the possibility of conversation.
I can't say enough nice things about this restaurant! I made my reservation through Open Table, but phoned to say we were running a bit late. The host was very friendly and understanding. When we arrived, she greeted me by name and then showed us to a very special table they had held just for my party.
As noted in other reviews, the wine list is extensive and the particular wine we chose was amazing. Our rooftop greens salad was wonderful, and all of our (fish) entrees were top notch. My personal favorite was the artic char.
For desert, try the poached pears. The presentation was as impressive as the taste.
I would be remiss if I didn't also comment on the excellent service we received. Our server was attentive yet unobtrusive. Somehow he managed to stretch our wine over the entire meal with everyone getting just the right amount. Courses were served beautifully and seamlessly.
Thanks Eli's Table for an exceptional dining experience.
Our food was good, the ambiance nice but the service was really off and disappointing. It seemed like it took forever to get our food and one of the ordered appetizers was brought with the main course. That should not happen! Also, the wine list is too esoteric. They need to have more wines by the glass that are Italian, French and not just ones from CA.
I had read about this restaurant in the Wine Spectator and having never really ventured out to the Upper East side decided to give it a go. The area is an eclectic mix of funky bars and restaurants and well worth wondering around. Eli's has nice classic décor and the staff are extremely friendly. My guest and I enjoyed both appetizer's and main courses (short ribs were excellent) with a different wine pairing for each course, which I would recommend. The place prides itself on its wine selection, many you may not have heard of, but the sommeliers are very helpful.
Overall a good place to visit but 2 warnings - firstly this is a local establishment with an older clientele, we probably lowered the average age by at least 10-15 years. Secondly, the wine pairing are great but you can quickly run up a hefty bill.
However, a place you should seek out.
Great food. Expansive wine selection. Romantic vibe. Great servers.
Fresh and good food but the waiters lack training. Price is really on the high side for a casual dinner - well over $600 for a party of 4!
Excellent. We are always happy to be eating at Eli's Table
Great night...wine and good food was fabulous. Highly recommend...
Enjoyable meal in the neighbourhood we were staying.
Always wonderful in every area . Been eating there for years. The PERFECT neighborhood restaurant. Also, the ONLY place for great pot roast.
The best word to define Eli's Place is: Consistency. Good food, good service and great wines in a very comfortable atmosphere. We visit often and have never been disappointed. Must make a reservation.
Food is always first-rate and conversation is possible. What else could one want in a restaurant?
Always a reliably delicious option, especially for the wine discerning crowd! Outstanding wine list with rare gems, older vintages, natural options, etc. One of my favorite wine lists in the city! Service is always very warm and friendly, and as you come regularly, it's always a pleasure to be recognized. Food is always solid: stunningly fresh and real feeling.
Eli's Table always has the freshest ingredients combined with an exceptional wine list.
Excellent menu. Outstanding wine selections. Very knowledgeable sommelier. Our favorite neighborhood restaurant for a quiet meal and wonderful food and wine
