Attractive space, not too noisy, great wine list by the glass, excellent service, very knowledgeable wine steward/manager, delicious poulet rouge and zucchini friti. A bit pricey but worth it.

My review is related to brunch, not dinner.
I went there for brunch. All my dining experiences at Zabar were excellent. Fine quality products, great service, amazing wine list.

So I’m still baffled on why there is such a gigantic disconnect with the brunch experience. Unresponsive management, poor service, i had to send the burger back (over cooked vs medium rare and tasted like cooked on slow burn vs seared/grilled). Club sandwich was not good either (tasteless from what my guest said). We ordered a Corton, and were given regular wine glasses. While there is chocolate croissant on the menu, when I asked the waiter said it would take 40mn, then said it wasn’t an option anymore. We were also asked to leave quickly as they needed to prepare for a party later in the afternoon.

The worst was when I gave feedback at the end of the meal to the manager and bar tender, they actually almost didn’t care, blaming Eli on why the quality / service was poor over lunch. So disappointing especially as I was referencing regularly Eli’s table from previous dinning experience. Clearly a management issue.

If you do not want to hear what your companions are saying, this is a good bet. The food was fine, but the noise level ruined everything as far as I am concerned. The restaurant that preceded this one was quite different, with widely spaced tables and the possibility of conversation.

I can't say enough nice things about this restaurant! I made my reservation through Open Table, but phoned to say we were running a bit late. The host was very friendly and understanding. When we arrived, she greeted me by name and then showed us to a very special table they had held just for my party.
As noted in other reviews, the wine list is extensive and the particular wine we chose was amazing. Our rooftop greens salad was wonderful, and all of our (fish) entrees were top notch. My personal favorite was the artic char.
For desert, try the poached pears. The presentation was as impressive as the taste.

I would be remiss if I didn't also comment on the excellent service we received. Our server was attentive yet unobtrusive. Somehow he managed to stretch our wine over the entire meal with everyone getting just the right amount. Courses were served beautifully and seamlessly.

Thanks Eli's Table for an exceptional dining experience.

Our food was good, the ambiance nice but the service was really off and disappointing. It seemed like it took forever to get our food and one of the ordered appetizers was brought with the main course. That should not happen! Also, the wine list is too esoteric. They need to have more wines by the glass that are Italian, French and not just ones from CA.

I had read about this restaurant in the Wine Spectator and having never really ventured out to the Upper East side decided to give it a go. The area is an eclectic mix of funky bars and restaurants and well worth wondering around. Eli's has nice classic décor and the staff are extremely friendly. My guest and I enjoyed both appetizer's and main courses (short ribs were excellent) with a different wine pairing for each course, which I would recommend. The place prides itself on its wine selection, many you may not have heard of, but the sommeliers are very helpful.

Overall a good place to visit but 2 warnings - firstly this is a local establishment with an older clientele, we probably lowered the average age by at least 10-15 years. Secondly, the wine pairing are great but you can quickly run up a hefty bill.

However, a place you should seek out.

Fresh and good food but the waiters lack training. Price is really on the high side for a casual dinner - well over $600 for a party of 4!

Always a reliably delicious option, especially for the wine discerning crowd! Outstanding wine list with rare gems, older vintages, natural options, etc. One of my favorite wine lists in the city! Service is always very warm and friendly, and as you come regularly, it's always a pleasure to be recognized. Food is always solid: stunningly fresh and real feeling.

The portions were incredibly small for a very high price. $16 for one slice of French toast?! It didn't even come with fruit. The Huevos rancheros was so small and lacking. The hollandaise on the eggs Benedict tasted like mustard. The only upside was that it's very kid friendly and actually had a children's menu.

A blessedly quiet restaurant in Manhattan.....so hard to find these days. Quiet and pretty...a menu that is small but changes to reflect what is freshly available. Discreet and competent service. Very good food.

The somalier is a genius. Food and service were perfect. One of the best meals I've had in years.

It's not their fault that people don't know how to use their indoor voices, but the room doesn't absorb sound very well. On the other hand, it was interesting hearing every word of the drunk man's exploits at France's best vineyards, all bragged about with a Southern drawl that got progressively more elaborate as he became even more inebriated.

Always good food and service. Nice ambiance with good space between the tables so conversation is possible. Food is nicely and simply cooked with great fresh ingredients. Nicely presented. Nothing is soaked or sitting in olive oil ( my pet peeve ). Bread is delicious, good French wine selection. Service is attentive. Probably our favorite neighborhood restaurant. A good place to take friends for a nice dinner.

"Eli's roof-top grown heirloom tomatoes" with their house made mozzarella were outstanding! Menu items ranged from recognizable comfort foods with a contemporary twist to creative, farm to table type choices. Very nice wine list-lots of top tier choices at moderate prices.

We parents took our young working adult kids and their friends to Sunday lunch. This was just the classy, exciting New York vibe that we wanted to treat them to. It has a rustic look. Sunlight was throughout the restaurant which is so rare in NY. So many restaurants I considered were dark. For example, the Carlyle hotel told me when I called that indeed their restaurants have no windows. Re: Eli's table, the food was perfect for an American lunch. Quiche, eggs, smoked salmon for example, not the heavy food of so many restaurants in this area (we needed a place near the MET museum). Service was perfect. We were not in a hurry, so I can't say if service was slow, but what I liked was that the servers were sophisticated, kind and responsive. We had a very long lunch which we wanted and did not feel rushed away at all even though it had emptied out by the time we left. Don't be deterred by the fact that it adjoins the food market. You can't see it from inside the restaurant, but it adds to the restaurant's cool vibe that the market is right there. The prices were so much better at this restaurant than those further West, closer to the Met. I highly recommend Eli's Table.
