Eleven South Bistro Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I celebrate our birthdays in December with a dinner out and this year we wisely chose Eleven South. We had a fantastic dining experience over the nearly three hours that we were there. We arrived shortly before our reservation time of 6:30. The hostess had our OpenTable reservation and our table was ready. Our daughter had arranged for a bottle of champagne and it was already chilling at the table when we were seated.
Our waitress, Gina, was among the very best who’s ever taken care of us at a fine dining establishment. She knew the menu, including the evening’s specials, and after listening to our likes and dislikes offered expert recommendations for each course. Gina answered every question with detailed yet understandable descriptions of the dining options we wanted to consider. She accurately paced the meal consistent with food preparation and our pace of dining. We were neither rushed nor neglected and Gina was extraordinarily attentive without being intrusive. Gina absolutely “made” the evening truly special for my wife and me.
Our meals were delicious. Preparation showed artful attention to detail. Presentation and plating were attractive and enticing. Each course was delivered to the table at the proper temperature and had been freshly prepared. Flavors were extraordinary. Portion size is secondary to preparation and flavor, but we each finished our meal satisfied without feeling stuffed. Dessert, coffee and a bourbon digestif completed the evening’s experience with flair.
Complimentary valet parking was convenient and the attendant was welcoming on our arrival and expedient on our departure.
Previously, our local “go to” restaurant for special occasions at this price point had been Marker 32, and that is still a very good choice. But I think we will be returning to Eleven South again soon and for now, Eleven South will be our choice for special occasion dining in Jacksonville. We will certainly ask for Gina’s table again also.
Eleven South Bistro is one of or maybe the best/favorite resturand on east coast.. Great resturants in NYC & Baltimore Md but none are better than this resturant.. It is managed VERY well.. Thats easy to see by the minium turn over of staff.. I have been several times and will not go to another resturant unless my guest insist on their favorite.. For Biz its the best..
My wife had a perfectly prepared excellent tenderloin. I should’ve ordered the same thing. I ordered a goat cheese chicken Soltim boca which was not as described on the menu. The second item in the description was smoke prosciutto I couldn’t find any. And it was served In what I call a cereal bowl butwhich made near imposible to cut the semi tough piece of chicken. I stopped trying and left about 80% of it.
Thanksgiving day at 5 PM. The restaurant was mobbed. It was me and my wife and we were seated in a room off the main dining area and packed in with what felt like inches between us and the next table. We couldn't have a conversation without our neighboring table being a part of it. There was a very loud party in the main dining area that dominated the entire restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the food was great and I've eaten here before and it is consistently good. It just wan't a relaxing experience and we were very uncomfortable.
As always the food and service was exceptional. We were there recently for Thanksgiving. Their menu was very good with four choices of entrees plus the price was affordable. We’ve been there many times for lunch. It’s a great place to take out of town guest.
Alyssa and the bar crew made my wife and I want to become regulars. Great job. I've enjoyed every meal I've had there. The options have just the right amount of creativity without going overboard on strange flavor mixes. I also felt like I had just had a healthy meal instead of a gut balloon.
Great menu + food. Nice place.
Unfortunately, our waiter was not so great.
To begin with he was hurried & talking about menu so fast we had to have most of his spiel repeated.
We ordered the Garlic bread (that did not have garlic, just bread) & it was placed on table along with a tray of 4 delightful looking condiments to place on the bread but since we had Zero cutlery we were unable to access the condiments. Eventually he returned to table & one of the ladies at our table very nicely requested cutlery but apparently it was our fault we had none. He was rude, arrogant, & not at all nice!
Ordered Rack Lamb & asked if they had Mint Jelly, was rudely advised, "NO." I asked if he knew for certain & was briskly advised, "Yes." No attempt to check in kitchen
When main entrees came one of the ladies at the table was somewhat rudely "told" to MOVE her stuff (bread plate, cutlery etc.) so the entree could be placed. Not nice & she was taken aback.
Provided a desert menu & then after the 2 gentlemen decided & ordered we were curtly advised the Italian Parfaits we had selected were "not available." Should have been so informed when initially provided the menu. It was the manner in which we were advised (after the fact) that was especially offensive to all 4 of us.
It's a shame that a potentially awesome meal at a very nice restaurant was somewhat spoiled by the obnoxious waiter. IF we ever return we will definitely request a different waiter.
Do not live at beach so was long drive to a restaurant we all had enjoyed previously. Extremely disappointed they would have a waiter we all considered arrogant and at times even rude and nasty. We all are "Foodies" and eat at fine dining regularly. No excuse for this.
Eleven South is one of our favorite restaurants in the Jacksonville area. Very good friends of ours have just relocated to the area and we brought them to Eleven South to introduce the place and celebrate the occasion. The food and service did not disappoint. And several amazing wines were on sale at a 50% discount that evening which made the experience even better.
We sat outside on the veranda which was very nice in terms of ambiance. We know from past experience that if the bar is full, then the adjacent inside dining room becomes an inferno of noise making conversation difficult.
This particular Sunday evening, the bar was not crowded and the noise level inside was fine. But the weather was lovely and we opted to eat outside. Unfortunately the choice of music left a lot to be desired in terms of content and volume.
First visit, was tough to locate bistro but happy we found it
Bar very busy on a Thursday night for happy hour, packed no seats and standing room only
We were planning on dinner and asked for patio dining which we got. Nice place to eat and quieter. Wine choices were good, prices typical, special wines by glass were great option for me. I had teres major steak special which was awesome. Great flavor and cooked exactly to temp via sous vide. My wife's salmon was very good. Not cheap but worth the price. Great services, will be back
Lovely setting. We had a reservation for 645 and were seated right away. The water poured constantly. Our waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. The cocktails were nice. We enjoyed mussels as an appetizer. Plenty for two and good quality. I had the beet salad, which was the best flavors. They used a mandolin to thinly slice both golden and red beets and layered goat cheese between them. It had a doolop of orange marmalade and when it was all combined with the greens, light oil was simply outstanding. My husband had a nice steak cooked perfectly and I had the lobster paella, which was a small tail plus shrimp, chirizo and fish. Really remarkable. We were too full for dessert. The only downers were that the packed reaturant was very noisy and we tried to use a Visa giftcard and they said it wouldnt work. We used it the following day elsewhere without a problem.
Well, totally underwhelming and disappointing! Started off with glass of champagne for our anniversary on the house, a good app, escargot, and good wedge salad. Then there was the main course! 0ne burnt veal dish and one raw lamb chop dish. Waiter tried to help me but never bothered asking my wife. I can do rare so I ate it but it was the worst lamb chops I have ever had! Some of the veal was edible but covered up with cheese, sauce , etc. the veggies were good! They gave us a dessert and gift card for a free appetizer! Too little Too late. Very busy trendy spot so many like it better than we did. Glad they like it but we will not return or recommend.
Our experience at eleven south bistro was very pleasant, the food was very good and service was fantastic, if I had a small complaint it would be the Noise level as me and my wife did go here for a quiet dinner for our anniversary but again that is a very small complaint it gets a thumbs up!
I really wanted to give Eleven South 5 stars, but there were so many places where - when compared to our two favorites in town - it was always a notch lower. We were greeted and seated immediately. Their menu has a very nice selection and their wines by the glass list were nice as well.
The first thing I noticed was that they charged $4 for bread service. Okay, fine...not everyone wants bread, but we did so we ordered it and I informed our waitress of my food allergies. Out comes the bread with two of the four spreads with items I'm allergic to. It was quickly replaced. Two butters instead of one - okay - but it tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for a while and the bread was a regular loaf of white.
We ordered the steak tartare. Amazing. They serve it "old school" with an egg on top. Yum. Loved every bite...just the right balance of capers and toasts.
For dinner I ordered a full rack of lamb and my husband ordered the scallops.
Pros: The rack of lamb was cooked superbly and was well-proportioned - not some wimpy rack. It was truly finger-licking good. The scallops were also cooked to perfection.
Cons: The sides were mediocre to bad. My gnocchi were hard and although the sauce that was on the plate was scrumptious, it couldn't overcome those lumps.
My husband said that his risotto, peppers, cilantro and beans were each so powerful that they all competed with each other and blew out his palate...so he really couldn't enjoy the scallops as good as they were...so we took it home and he had the other half for lunch the next day!
For dessert, I ordered the chocolate coffee creme pot and chocolate bits (it had a catchy name) which was excellent.
The noise level was also very high as were the prices compared to our faves in the area (like bb's and Azurea). So although there were some high points, there weren't enough for me to come back...but I suggest trying it if you want to experience something new...you may have a different experience than us!
