Eleven South Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Eleven South is one of our favorite restaurants in the Jacksonville area. Very good friends of ours have just relocated to the area and we brought them to Eleven South to introduce the place and celebrate the occasion. The food and service did not disappoint. And several amazing wines were on sale at a 50% discount that evening which made the experience even better.
We sat outside on the veranda which was very nice in terms of ambiance. We know from past experience that if the bar is full, then the adjacent inside dining room becomes an inferno of noise making conversation difficult.
This particular Sunday evening, the bar was not crowded and the noise level inside was fine. But the weather was lovely and we opted to eat outside. Unfortunately the choice of music left a lot to be desired in terms of content and volume.
First visit, was tough to locate bistro but happy we found it
Bar very busy on a Thursday night for happy hour, packed no seats and standing room only
We were planning on dinner and asked for patio dining which we got. Nice place to eat and quieter. Wine choices were good, prices typical, special wines by glass were great option for me. I had teres major steak special which was awesome. Great flavor and cooked exactly to temp via sous vide. My wife's salmon was very good. Not cheap but worth the price. Great services, will be back
Lovely setting. We had a reservation for 645 and were seated right away. The water poured constantly. Our waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. The cocktails were nice. We enjoyed mussels as an appetizer. Plenty for two and good quality. I had the beet salad, which was the best flavors. They used a mandolin to thinly slice both golden and red beets and layered goat cheese between them. It had a doolop of orange marmalade and when it was all combined with the greens, light oil was simply outstanding. My husband had a nice steak cooked perfectly and I had the lobster paella, which was a small tail plus shrimp, chirizo and fish. Really remarkable. We were too full for dessert. The only downers were that the packed reaturant was very noisy and we tried to use a Visa giftcard and they said it wouldnt work. We used it the following day elsewhere without a problem.
Well, totally underwhelming and disappointing! Started off with glass of champagne for our anniversary on the house, a good app, escargot, and good wedge salad. Then there was the main course! 0ne burnt veal dish and one raw lamb chop dish. Waiter tried to help me but never bothered asking my wife. I can do rare so I ate it but it was the worst lamb chops I have ever had! Some of the veal was edible but covered up with cheese, sauce , etc. the veggies were good! They gave us a dessert and gift card for a free appetizer! Too little Too late. Very busy trendy spot so many like it better than we did. Glad they like it but we will not return or recommend.
Our experience at eleven south bistro was very pleasant, the food was very good and service was fantastic, if I had a small complaint it would be the Noise level as me and my wife did go here for a quiet dinner for our anniversary but again that is a very small complaint it gets a thumbs up!
I really wanted to give Eleven South 5 stars, but there were so many places where - when compared to our two favorites in town - it was always a notch lower. We were greeted and seated immediately. Their menu has a very nice selection and their wines by the glass list were nice as well.
The first thing I noticed was that they charged $4 for bread service. Okay, fine...not everyone wants bread, but we did so we ordered it and I informed our waitress of my food allergies. Out comes the bread with two of the four spreads with items I'm allergic to. It was quickly replaced. Two butters instead of one - okay - but it tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for a while and the bread was a regular loaf of white.
We ordered the steak tartare. Amazing. They serve it "old school" with an egg on top. Yum. Loved every bite...just the right balance of capers and toasts.
For dinner I ordered a full rack of lamb and my husband ordered the scallops.
Pros: The rack of lamb was cooked superbly and was well-proportioned - not some wimpy rack. It was truly finger-licking good. The scallops were also cooked to perfection.
Cons: The sides were mediocre to bad. My gnocchi were hard and although the sauce that was on the plate was scrumptious, it couldn't overcome those lumps.
My husband said that his risotto, peppers, cilantro and beans were each so powerful that they all competed with each other and blew out his palate...so he really couldn't enjoy the scallops as good as they were...so we took it home and he had the other half for lunch the next day!
For dessert, I ordered the chocolate coffee creme pot and chocolate bits (it had a catchy name) which was excellent.
The noise level was also very high as were the prices compared to our faves in the area (like bb's and Azurea). So although there were some high points, there weren't enough for me to come back...but I suggest trying it if you want to experience something new...you may have a different experience than us!
Everything about 11 South should make it a great experience. The name, the welcome, the service, the menu. However, noise from the bar and the dining room was dysfunctional. The veal was extremely heavily breaded with panko which overwhelmed the expectations.
Eleven South is a great spot. They take reservations (yay!) and I have never had an issue with not being able to be promptly seated when I do have reservations. Some areas of the restaurant can get quite loud, depending on your fellow diners, and if they feel the need to share their story with other tables. We were seated in a nook between the reception station and the kitchen door - FANTASTIC. Our server was very good when she was with us, but after an initial flurry of activity, she didn't check on us as much as I would have liked, which matched a prior experience earlier in the week with one of their veteran servers. The food was very good - it always is (another great reason to go). I had the tile fish special - delicious. The dessert menu is OK - nothing really knocks my socks off there. If you haven't been - go!
Although I was catfished from having been stood up by my internet date I did not care because it gave me another reason to enjoy 11 south. The Halibut and quinona/bacon drizzle was superb along with the Mayport shrimp and grits pesto was divine. I hope I get catfished again!
My wife had the Alaskan Flounder and I had the Lobster Paella. Both were excellent! We arrived early for our reservations, so we took advantage of the happy hour. The Blue Cheese Potato Chip small plate was enough for two and was delicious. Reduced drink prices were much appreciated, too. The restaurant had kind of a loud noise level, but not intolerable. All in all a very enjoyable experience.
I went with my friends for my birthday and we had a terrific time. The service was impeccable, food exquisite and the décor friendly and modern. We all had different dishes so we were able to taste different flavors. We had 2 appetizers: burrata heirloom tomatoes with arugula and the fried artichokes (delicious). I saw others things I want to try so I'll be back.
Lovely anniversary dinner at 11 South. Jeremy H was our waiter and he did a great job of pacing the dinner so we didn't feel rushed. Champagne on the house was a great start to the evening. I loved my Black Grouper and my husband had the paella. A very special night.
