Under new ownership, so they said. The staff was accommodating , Not very cheap even with a groupon.
Too bright, ok food, ok service. Would not return
We are Chinese!! Food salty and soup is cold, No need write too much!! Not back again!!
Nice place for a casual date
The restaurant lost its liquor license two days before. The decor, which used to be cool and interesting, is gone. I don't know what happened to the restaurant . Food is still good but no ambiance and you have to byob.
I have been there before and it was good ,but this time they had no beef and anything I wanted with crab they did not have they only had powerderd crab ?????????????
After going there for many years, this will be our last visit. Ownership has changed, and transformed it into just another Chinese restaurant without a compelling reason to dine there. We will miss the old Elaine's.
We ordered a few exotic dishes i.e. Seacumber, dong boa meat, pine nut fish, they all horrible. Seacumber was cold and tasteless. Dong boa meat was dry and hard as rock. Pine nut fish was greasy and not crispy at all.
Peiking duck is superb as it's known for. Problem is that's the only thing is worth going for but others is worse than other places.
Finally used gift certificate and glad we dined there on Friday night. Pleasantly surprised for the happy hour was a bonus. Friendly attentive staff and manager/owners. Edamas were not that fresh. Overall, good food and cozy atmosphere.
What a disappointment.
Since the change of ownership, the once fairly decent "Asian Fusion" restaurant is now a full-blown Chinese restaurant (with an emphasis on Peking Duck) with extraordinarily mediocre sushi bar (the fish did not taste fresh) and a limited number of traditional Japanese dishes..
Food was marginal
Service was dreadful - they were so inattentive that I could (should) have walked out without paying the check and no one would have even noticed..
Nice decoration & interior. As for food & value, not worth going at all. They used old frozen fish for sushi and sashimi. Other Chinese dishes were very salty and greasy. Overpriced for everything!! Don't waste your time, Go somewhere else !
Went for friends birthday and found it under new management. So disappointing. Service lacking. Menu, still good food but has changed. The night we went it was not at all crowded yet they were out of a lot. Like chicken for satay. Yet there was chicken for every other dish so didn't quite understand. Also out of a few dessert items. Don't think we will be returning. Used to love this place.
Apparently Elaine's has a new chef. The food is not as good as it used to be. Additionally, two of the items that we intended to order and that were on the menu were no longer available because of the chef change. Very disappointed.
it was just OK - apps were reasonable - mains were a challenge - Service just OK - price is relatively high for what you get
Recently redid interior and changed menu. Perhaps under new ownership. Used to be excellent. Not any more. Wonton and hot & sour soups perfectly fine, but nothing great. Fried dumplings were very good. Sesame chicken a little on the mushy side, not crispy. Also more of an orange sauce, not really sesame. Chicken itself had a spongy consistency, not great. Shrimp chow fun was pretty bad. Noodles just a sticky gooey mess and the shrimp were absolutely gross, totally mushy. Perhaps frozen then recooked? Most desserts on menu were not available, only ice cream and some kind of cake, I think. And this was New Year's Eve! Very disappointing meal. We were there a few weeks before and had an equally disappointing meal. Used to love Elaine's. Scratching it off our list now.
Always good food and service. Will be back
This is my third time to Elaine's and by far the worst experience I've ever had. My wife and I were having a celebratory dinner and made reservations but had to wait 15 minutes for a table even though the restaurant was half empty. Then we ordered our usual meals that we normally order and the meal was not up to its usual standard. Needless to say they must have had a rough night because this is not what they are like usually.
We went with another couple of never ate there before. Food was god, but the service was horrible. We were embarrassed. We have been there many times before, but this was the worst.
The place is under new ownership with a new chef. The food has taken a hit. There are many nearby Asian and Asian fusion restaurants in Great Neck, and this one used to be superior in both its food and decor. It is now average at best with no qualities that make it stand out.
The service was terrible and the other table was very loud and annoying
Elaine no longer owns or runs Elaine's. There has been a complete change over in staff. The servers are new, the hostesses are new and the sushi chefs are new. Service quality is down, food quality is down and presentation is way down.
Sadly, I don't think we'll be coming back after many ears of enjoyable dining here.
The service was off from previous experiences and the flavor of the food has gone down. I was then informed that they have a new chef and he is preparing the dishes differently.
it's a line from an old marx brothers film, but if you don't get it (the reference), at least get it (the made to order peking duck). sliced tableside, you will be in for quite a treat.
Elaine's was referred to me by a neighbor who has been several times.
I brought one of my girlfriends and we went for dinner at about 6 pm on a Saturday night. We were very pleased. The food was delicious and fresh. Prices are reasonable.
The decor is very nice and relaxing and there is very soft music playing in the background.
There were two families in the room we were in. Both had children with them. One family had 2 kids, not so quiet, but because of the decor and spacing of the tables it was ok.
The other family was next to us and had a party of about 10, 4 of which were kids. They were very well behaved and a pleasure.
My only slight, very slight, complaint is the table staff could have been more attentive. They had 2 or 3 people come to the table as usual in the beginning, drinks, appetizers etc. But once the food was on the table it was quite a while before anyone came near the table again. Each time we need something we had to flag someone down. My friend had to ask for water twice. They were apologetic and maybe they were short staffed that night.
All in all we are happy we went, and we will be going back again.
It was my fiance & I 's first time there. While they got our table ready, we sat at the bar. We tried complimentary duck rolls (1st time) which were pretty good. Then we got to our table, the food was pretty good also. Our bartender/ waiter (Bonito) was great at making sure we were doing well & happy. He was multi-tasking that night but provided excellent customer service. Although the ambiance was romantic, kids were there with their families. And it is a small establishment.
My husband and I enjoy dine at this restaurant. Food and service are good but one problem for me is the noise. Some customers talks really loud....we have been there twice in this month and both days, there were people talks extremely loud. Well, I know that the restaurant cannot do anything about it but actually really annoying. oh, one thing, they seems forgot about our reservation for my husbands birthday so there is no "happy birthday" from the wait persons and they did not recognized our reservation either or didn't seems to care because there are many open seats. I still like their food though.
Very poor service. No water refills or even asked if we wanted another drink. lukewarm appetizer. Waitress forgot table had to ask three times for main course which took over 40 minutes while others that came in much later were already served. Unpleasant experience. Will not be back. Too many other restaurants in town including same block. Too bad
Everything we ordered was delicious, that said, when 4 people order appetizers you expect them to come out mostly at the same time. Entrees must be served to everyone at the table at the same time-this did not happen. Two entries were brought out and 10 minutes later the other 2 were brought out even when we told the waiter that we were not sharing.
Elaine's is a Great Neck gem offering a wide variety of Asian Fusion cuisine. In a Great Neck dining scene devoid of established, trendy eateries, this restaurant stands out.
