   We took out-of-town guests to El Vez for a glorious meal. Particular praise for several different variations on the theme of taco. One guest said the mole sauce was the best he had ever eaten. The brussels sprouts were also delicious.

   At first glance, great entry to the host area. Everyone was very kind and professional. A few more smiles could have helped but we understand it was busy. The attention to detail of the dinnerware was awesome. The chicken needed work as it felt more like some Olive Garden chicken. Shrimp was pretty good. The corn on the cob was mediocre. The chicken quesadillas were quite fresh and yummy. The churros were top notch. Overall, the ambience and theme of the restaurant adds to the amazing and vibrant ambience BUT the little things like the amount of time to get our appetizers, the low grade chicken and the corn on the cob were misses that with some work can make this place —- THE PLACE TO BE. Until then, I like this spot and would try it again :-)

   When we walked in a little before 9pm for our reservation, we noticed an industrial fan right by the front door. I didn’t think too much of it as we are experiencing a heat wave. However , as we were seated I realized there was an issue with the air conditioning. At that time it was still almost 90 degrees outside. I would say the restaurant was over 80 degrees. We stayed and I think we probably should have left once we realized how uncomfortable it was. The downstairs restrooms were even warmer. I love el vez and have been there a few times over the years. The food and service was excellent but the heat really ruined the vibe. Probably would have stayed longer if we weren’t so uncomfortable. None of the staff acknowledged the issue.

   The food is delicious. Definitely get the brussel sprouts. Service was polite and efficient. Well worth dining.

   You must order the Original Guacamole. It's excellent along with one of the many to chose from Margaretta flavors.

   It’s a must for us to stop here whenever we’re in Philly. And not once in the ten years that we’ve visited and dined here have we been disappointed.

   We were instantly greeted and seated, our waitress came to greet us and take drink orders quickly. The food was excellent, I highly recommend the short rib enchilada, margaritas and the guac! The atmosphere is very nice, service was awesome.

    This is one of my husband's and my favorite restaurants in Center City. We can always count on the food to be fantastic, as are the drinks. The service is always super-friendly, efficient and professional. However, really, something has to be done about the decibel level. There is nothing in the space to baffle or absorb the incredibly loud noise. Everything is hard-surfaced, and so the noise just bounces around and is amplified with each person who enters the room, not to mention the music playing. We have never been able to have a conversation while we're eating. PLEASE think about putting some soft fabrics on the walls and/or ceilings (the woven wood ceiling is beautiful but doesn't help with the noise at all!). We took friends from England there on Tuesday night and they loved it, other than the noise level. We all had different things to eat --- from black bean enchiladas to shrimp tacos and several other items --- and they both loved the Nacho Mamma appetizer. Our server ---- actually we had a bunch of them catering to our every need --- was so friendly and helpful, and she was right there when we needed more water or a clean fork or whatever. The staff is a huge component of what makes El Vez really great and we always have a very good experience with every staff member we've ever encountered. My husband and I like to come to the restaurant in mid-afternoon --- sort of a late lunch or super-early dinner hour, when it is a bit quieter. But it is always at or near the top of our list when we have visitors from far away, and it never disappoints. But please try to do something about that noise level.
