El Vez Ratings and Reviews
The food was fantastic!! We started with the guacamole & chips which did not disappoint. My sea bass tacos with a sweet potato purée were so delicious!! My one friend had the Mexican salad with grilled chicken and said it was very good. The other had enchiladas and was very pleased! Would definitely go back again!! Our server was very good as well!! 😊
El Vez is a go-to for out of town visitors that you want to impress with quality and people watching. The seating outdoors is unparalleled because they actually have the space for it and you aren’t bothered by passers by. Inside there is a photo booth (!) and lots of interesting folks from all walks of life to notice. The drinks are yum and the food is good. It’s a bit pricey for what it is which is why I only use this for out of towners or people who have money to burn.
Great if you like food hot and spicy. The dinner was thoughtful. Guacamole was particularly good. Sangria tasted like fruit punch -- I'm not sure it had alcohol. I liked the ambience. The entree was a little too spicey hot. I thought it was pricey for what we got, but it was a good time before the theater.
Really great for us since we were a party of 6. They have comfortable booths with round table. We were not jammed in and everyone could talk to each other. Usually with a group stuck with tables put together and one end cannot be a part of the other end.
Food is almost made to order - I cannot eat onions - so no onions in the guac. for example. We had dinner of which I had half of my husbands and he had half of my dish. I really had trouble giving up my half it was soooo good. Worked out since his was really good. Everyone really liked their meals. Our server was very knowledgeable, worked with us in what to order, and still friendly after putting up with us.
My nephew was visiting from Chicago. I have been to El Vez previously with a small group, and the food, service, and atmosphere were great. My nephew and I had a great time. Everything went very well. Highly recommend this cool spot. It's also an easy walk from our Center City hotel. Will go back.
Good food. Recommend making a reservation. It isn't the type of place you walk up to....wait is often quite long. So plan in advance to eat here. My future son-in-law burnt his wrist quite badly on the serving dish / cast iron skillet that his meal came in...so be warned of beyond "your plate may be warm"....it may be scolding...it left a raised, very blistered burn. Flavorful appetizers. Good authentic choice.
Daughter and fiancé raved about it so we went with them to see for ourselves. We were NOT disappointed. The food was delicious, margaritas salty and cold and dessert was perfect. Okay, the flan wasn’t so hot, but our other 3 desserts were yummy. Would go back in a heart beat.
I came here for a business meal, I’ve been here on plenty of other occasions as well, and the staff was very friendly and responsive. I’ve absolutely loved my experience every time I’ve come here, the food is always amazing and the food is always excellent. A great spot!
We are proud to have El Vez in our city. When out-of-owners visit us, we take them to El Vez and it never disappoints. Love the ambiance and the drinks. Our appetizers were outstanding. The food...could use some zing...I've had better Mexican food. The service was excellent as always.
Hands down a great vibe/atmosphere. So many different types of people made us feel super comfortable. My teenager got the shrimp taco and it was a bit spicy for her. I got the mahi mahi taco and it was definitely the best one I’ve ever had. Guacamole and chips were good. Would have loved to sample more food so we’ll be back.
I have never felt uncomfortable in all my years eating out until last night. Our first server “Charlese” (learned her name from the server who took over for her) came over a few minutes after being seated and asked if we wanted water. We declined and thought she would ask for our drink order. Nope, she walked away. Almost 15 minutes later she appeared and stood on the opposite side of us and just looked at us. We both said “hi” with a smile. Waited what felt like forever for her to speak or ask us for our order... she just stood there looking at us albeit with a smile. It was a very awkward long pause of nothingness. We asked her how she was doing...she answered but we didn’t hear her and continued to just look at us. So I asked her can we give our drink order. She said sure and we ordered our cocktails. She continued to just stand there so we also gave her our app order. We asked some questions and she answered them. When she left we both looked at each other and agreed that was the weirdest encounter we ever experienced. She clearly gave us the impression that she did not want to serve us. Oddly enough a new server showed up and informed us she was taking over for Charlese. That was a relief because we were considering leaving. We are a gay couple. We chose this restaurant in this area to feel accepted. Charlese left us feeling we were not. We don’t know what was going on with her but if you are in the Service business, whatever your deal is, you shouldn’t take it out on customers.
The server that took over was good. My poor rating for Service should not reflect on her.
The food was amazing.
Will we be back? Sure but we will make a point to request not to be seated at one of Charlese’s table.
El Vez elevates Mexican to an artform. From roasted tomato sauces, to inventive guacamoles, the menu is inventive and there's something for everyone. The lunch special is just about perfect and the service is great. A warm, fun atmosphere completes the experience.
