El Vez New York
Casual yet contemporary, El Vez celebrates the festive soul of Mexican and Mexican-American culture, a true south-of-the-border spirit that manifests itself in the restaurant’s attitude and atmosphere. The breathtaking space is a feast for the eyes with imaginatively designed dining areas, a large bar outfitted with a photobooth, a wrap-around landscaped patio for dining al fresco and a burrito bar for food on the go.
With deep roots in regional Mexican cooking, the menu is built around guacamoles, fundidos, ceviches, tacos, quesadillas and enchiladas made from scratch with authenticity in mind. Meanwhile, the bar offers a large selection of creative cocktails, signature margaritas and staggering selection of 150 mezcals and tequilas.
We had a reservation for 1:30. There was a walk in available and we were immediately sat. The food was good! Service was good. It was busy!!
Went for a weekday lunch. Lots of space, no wait. Food came quickly.
The burritos were excellent — and massive!
The chips and salsa (not free!) were just ‘meh’. Chips seemed like stale, grocery-store-brand cheapies. And the salsas were forgettable. The guacamole was wayyyyy overpriced, even by NY standards.
Overall, great — I’d go again.... just not for a wanting-to-linger-over-bottomless-chips-and-salsa lunch.
IT is Great! The food the service the friendly atmosphere were all amazing! Loved the authentic dishes, some I had never had before !
We had guacamole, tacos with carbon and churros. All very nice cooked and well served! I would recommend this menu to all families and group of friends willing to enjoy a nice meal together!
Outstanding service. Had the most lovely Mothers Day brunch. Food was delicious and they could not be more accommodating to kiddos.
Very good, authentic food from the apps to entrees! Perfect for large groups, staff is very nice and were accommodating. We live in the neighborhood and brought friends who live outside the city and they loved everything about the food and ambiance!
Josh took amazing care of my wife and I after we had arrived after two cab and a train rides. We were refreshed with cold beer, and frozen cocktails, and a generous spread of delicious mexican delights. Only my second time at the NYC location, but they are two for two and I will undoubtably make it back if only for the amazing hospitality of the staff. Thanks!
Great place to spend Cinco de Mayo. Food good but could have been more generous with the meat in the chicken nachos and beef in the short rib enchiladas. A fun night albeit!
Awesome food and service!
I love El Vez in Philly, so I decided to try this location. I have to say, I love this location even more. Food is great. Service is wonderful. And the atmosphere is fun.
All-around excellent. The food was incredible, staff was knowledgeable and made great suggestions helping us decide on food & drinks. It was the perfect space for Cinco De Mayo and I ave plans to return in a few weeks.
Good just a bit loud
I work in the area and am a frequent visitor to El Vez. Food was great but the service was awful. I am not sure if our server was new (as I hadn't seen him before) but after we ate we literally could not find him for about 30 minutes. The restaurant was about half full. We had to ask 3 other servers for our check. Not sure what happened here...
Terrific menu and beverage selection. A fun, festive place for two or a group!
El Vez is one of the best dining experiences downtown. Residents love it because it’s kid and family friendly. Whether a small family meal on the weekend or larger event with grandparents or relatives, El Vez delivers.
For a date this place has location vibe and energy.
Cool spot to check out. Food is more expensive than its value, but enjoyable nonetheless. Could easily be worth the cost if something as simple as rice and beans were included as a side for tacos. Guacamole portion was far underwhelming for the cost, but for what you DO get - it’s worth it.
The cauliflower tacos are amazing...even for a carnivore like me.
Great waiter, friendly and accomodating for me and my teen daughter. Cucumber margarita was quite good. However, the food was 'nothing special', inasmuch as I ordered a more expensive dish. Price-to-quality ratio was not great (guacamole+chips for $17 seems a bit ... high). No burritos on the menu in the evening -- my daughter was disappointed, but the soft tacos did the trick to bump it up a notch. All in all, an OK weekday evening restaurant, nothing special, with a very loud environment. I wouldn't recommend, since it was not really anything special, but otherwise OK.
We thought the menu was a bit expensive but when we saw the portions we understood why. Everything is definitely made to be shared family style!! Delicious food and great service! When I need my texmex fix for fajitas I’ll definitely be back for the tacos al carbon!!
Have been going here since it opened. Haven't been back in a while and met friends visiting from out of town. The food has really gone downhill. The regular guacamole was awful - bland and most likely made the night before as it tasted old. Our waitress had a very flat affect - no personality. The dining experience was very lackluster and I'm very disappointed. It did not seem like a Starr restaurant.
Awesome Restaurant with delicious Food and Drinks. The Service was Perfect and very friendly.
Great. Mint margeritas worthy of a repeat visit
The music was way too loud. I know it’s how it is, but so not an enjoyable experience.
Got to restaurant 5 minutes prior to reservation and was told that we had to wait 45 minutes since no tables were available. What good is making a reservation if the restaurant doesn’t honor it.
The food was good as always and our waitress was absolutely great but the hostess initially didn’t want to seat us after we came 18 minutes late. They only allow 15 minutes and those 3 extra minutes were critical. It would be completely understandable if the restaurant was full, but it was a very early dinner and after she agreed to sit us (with one condition to be our by 7:15), we saw at least 4 empty tables around us. It did leave a bit of an aftertaste. Don’t be late.
Always happy to go to El Vez. My fav Mexican restaurant to go with friends and family.
Great meal! Good for a quick business lunch. Food is always delicious, and service was fast.
Delicious and one of the nicest places we had eaten on our trip
Usually great, service and food was off last week. Some food came
Excellent food and ambiance. Extremely kid friendly but not at all noisy at the same time. Misses a star only due to the super slow service. Loved it overall!
Family get together! Food was great, restaurant ambiance was great. Bar is very nice.
very loud, and crowded, but luckily that was just at the bar area. lamb taco was meh, and way too... wet? i basically had to eat it with a knife and fork because it fell apart in my hands.
friends and i were catching up, and i definitely didn't think we overstayed, but the waiter was a bit pushy towards the end.
El Vez has great food and ambiance. It across the street from our employer, so a great place to lunch, happy hour and dine.
Service and atmosphere was great. Food was lousy. We thought we may have ordered the wrong things--but steak tacos and chicken quesadillas should be a solid go-to. Would come back for drinks only.
Food is fantastic especially the Nacho mama. Service and drinks great.
This is usually a weekly experience.
Perhaps just an off night.
The food was well prepared , simple but flavorful and filling. Most of us had the tacos and the guac is a must !
Always consistent. Hostesses make it work no matter what. Waitstaff was not as tight as I’ve had in last three visits so far this year, but not too bad. Food meets expectations...and always arrives hot.
