With deep roots in regional Mexican cooking, the menu is built around guacamoles, fundidos, ceviches, tacos, quesadillas and enchiladas made from scratch with authenticity in mind. Meanwhile, the bar offers a large selection of creative cocktails, signature margaritas and staggering selection of 150 mezcals and tequilas.

El Vez New York Ratings and Reviews
We had the special of the night, and it was amazing - short ribs with 8 different sauces for build your own tacos. Between 3 of us, we couldn’t finish it, but the flavor was great! It was loud, and the bar area was fun and hopping, but the restaurant area was appropriate for families as well.
Half of the meals are served wrong. Staff brought out wrong meals for kids brunch/lunch after waiting 30 minutes. "Chef having a bad day". Had to wait 20 minutes more for kids food to arrive. Don't go there, chipotle or dos toros will realistically be more satisfying and significantly better value without delays or any other issues. Definately not a place to go with kids where you expect a limited amount of time for kids to sit at table. Management didn't even make an effort to make up for this bad experience.
Everything was great!!! We were seated promptly upon arrival about 10 min prior to our reservation. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. The nachos are as good as everyone says! My husband had the pork belly tacos and I ordered crab enchiladas and both were appealing and delicious!
Tried El Vez based on the high ratings. We had dinner outside to avoid the loud noise inside ( the inside looks much nicer though).
In all fairness I was a bit disappointed. Service was extremely slow, and food is okay but not great. There are far better options for Mexican food in the city.
The food is excellent and the service outstanding. The only real negative is that the noise level is so irritating. It is very difficult to have an engaging conversation with friends without harming your vocal chords. Perhaps they can do something to improve the acoustics in the space.
Located around the corner from Conrad Hotel, this venue is convenient and in close proximity to the 911 Memorial. On this Sunday afternoon the food was tasty and well presented. Our server was not particularly attentive, but other servers noticed more than a few lapses and filled in as needed. The teamwork was much appreciated. Definitely worth a second try the next time we are in the Big Apple.
Our server was great and very accommodating. I would like to revisit and try something else because while I realize it is creative Mexican cuisine I felt that our "fajitas" were a bit lacking and not a great value. It was basically chicken and shrimp with onions and peppers. Tasty but no rice, no beans...as I said a bit lacking. But since the atmosphere and other menu items sounded interesting I would give it another try.
I was craving the black bean tlayuda, so I went to El Vez before a movie at the Regal Cinemas in BPC. My friend loved her chilaquiles verde, and my tlayuda was great. Also great: the cucumber mint margarita. And we got to sit outside! Twas a delightful brunch all around.
We have been to many S.Starr restaurants in Philadelphia, and when we moved to NYC, decided to try his restaurants here. For the price, I think the food was very good. I ordered a fajita and my guest ordered a burrito. Both had a lot of flavor and were a great portion for the price. We were able to sit outside to enjoy the weather. Plenty of seating. The atmosphere inside is unique. We did like the fact that the place offered kids menus. We would come here again.
We love Steven Starr' restaurants & El Vez didn't disappoint. The food was a wow, the Tito Santana Nachos were a meal; enormous and the best I've ever had. The lamb tacos were good but my husbands steak tacos were amazing. Attentive waiter, loved sitting outside watching battery park pass us by.
Food was fresh but fairly flavorless. Very little salt or spice. We had the guacamole, salsa, Baja tacos and fish ceviche. I'd say the ceviche was the best out of all. The guacamole was not worth the price and the tacos were just so so.
Ambiance was lovely - a bit crowded and noisy, but we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the people watching.
Service was nice as well. Our waitress was very kind.
Great place for a large crowd and/or a place to dine with kids.
