MY GIRLFRIEND & I WENT TO EL TORO BLANCO FOR THE FIRST TIME DUE TO RESTAURANT WEEK
AND MY BIRTHDAY. THE EXPERIENCE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BETTER - THE SERIVICE WAS EXCELLENT, THE FOOD WAS GREAT AND THE STAFF WAS WARM AND FRIENDLY.
THIS MAY HAVE BEEN OUR FIRST VISIT, BUT IT CERTAINLY WILL BE ONE OF MANY TO COME.
Waiter didn’t pay us much attention waited a while to be served
The last few visits, the menu has continually changed, while the website has not. There is no longer anything on the menu for vegetarians, although we indicated that two in our party were, in fact, vegans. Very disappointing.
I was looking forward to eating here because I follow Chef C's instagram and it always looks good. However I was disappointed with one thing I had and it ruined the whole meal . The hard shell taco were not crunchy at all the taco shell was old and made it hard to eat I order 2 of each taco on the menu . I would say stay away from it and stick with the salad ( seems to be the best thing) the waitress was really stretched she was doing waitress work and bar back so ordering was a little delayed.
Loved El Toro Blanco. Food was amazing. Drinks were great. We sat outside on a Saturday afternoon in the summer so it wasn’t busy. Service was impeccable. I was impressed. And have spread the word amongst my friends. I’m ready to go back.
This restaurant has gone through changes. My last visit was disappointing but I tried again. Not good this time either. Poor quality heritage pork , fish tacos you need a magnifying glass to find the fish, at $19 to boot. However, the guacamole was excellent. Do not plan to return.
I have been to this resturant several times, used to really enjoy it, however this time the service was not good at all. From the beginning a server never came over to the table or anyone with water for over 15 minutes while three tables that seated after us got service, they then proceeded to forget our table for the rest of the night, cocktails took forever, etc. In addition the food used to be outstanding, this time it was just ok.
Have been for both dinners and brunches. This time went for Father’s Day beach and as always we all enjoyed everything! One of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood
Was over the top when we went previously so we were eager to return. This time we were a bit disappointed. Food wasn’t as well prepared as before. Pepper appetizer was heavy handed and salty. Rib entree was dry and tough. Rice was over cheesy. We missed the well orchestrated touch of our previous visit. Service was awful. Seems that no one was assigned to tables and it showed. Table next to us was so frustrated in waiting for drinks that they left. Sorry to see this place miss the mark, hope it can get back on track.
The food was mediocre for the price! The service was so poor. Slow service for everything. I asked for one little thing, it was a special occasion I asked to please bring out desert with a little candle when I made the reservation. I was told no problem we will I’m thinking wow it will be a nice time!! No absolutely not we finished having dinner and didn’t bother to come check if we wanted desert nothing, asked for the check instead took a long time I’m thinking maybe they are bring it out, WRONG nothing was done about it! Wow poor service 👎🏽
The quality has taken a nose dive
The food was average, the drinks were watered down, and the service was OK. I got sick when I got home (my two dining partners didn't) and I didn't enjoy the food that much. Had fun and enjoyed myself but have had better Mexican in the city at at least five other places.
Place has gone down hill. Food was horrible and it’s hard to ruin Mexican food
Waitress got our drink order wrong (despite coming back to confirm), got our food order wrong (again, despite coming back to confirm).
Food was mediocre at best. Not coming back
Great staff and the food is delish!!
Waited almost an hour for a tiny portion of mediocre food (tostada salad with salmon and fish tacos).
Food was bland and not very fresh, over cooked too:
Will not be coming back.
Never disappointed... margaritas are delicious and the food is authentic and so good!!
Ok good, ok service. All of our food was served before our drinks came. Guac was sub par and tasteless. The real winner of the night was the cucumber mint cocktail
Upon entering the restaurant, I got a good vibe. The ambiance of the place was great. Our group arrived early and it was empty- but it quickly filled with happy customers. We enjoyed our drinks and food. Short Ribs were amazing, My Matador was scrumptious. Thank you El Toro Blanco for a Great Nite Out!
The food was amazing, I️ love the enchiladas and mahi mahi tacos! The churros and guac were also awesome!
Second time j have experienced subpar service; restaurant likely needs to overhaul this, the entire table commented on it.
The service was absolutely horrendous. We were ignored for hours and then given guacamole after about one hour of sitting there. They had no idea who ordered what. It was a mess.
We often go out for Mexican because a) we are tequila ppl b) I am from Southern Cal, my husband from Austin, and that is comfort food for us both.
That being said, we love trying new spots, regionally-specific spots, and new variations on standard Mexican fare. We heard good things and El Toro Blanco did not disappoint.
Their margaritas were excellent--very well-balanced and you could actually taste the tequila! And the guac was well-seasoned, packed full of flavor and needed no salt or acid to round it out; it was truly pretty perfect.
Our server (Eddie) was awesome and kind and treated us very well. We will def be back to visit him.
Had to wait about 15 minutes for our reservation
The food was subpay
This is one of our go to village restaurants. I am reviewing now because they have changed their menu non-trivially. While people may differ, I much prefer the old menu. My wife and I found it hard to find things we really wanted on the new menu; we had no such problems with the old one. Check the new menu before you go. Is still fine, just less fine (for us).
Been here few times all good. This time not good. Better places to eat
New executive chef and new menu. Food was good, but the music was deafeningly loud and we had to ask four times before they finally turned the music down.
Food was just okay. Ambiance is great. Service was mediocre.
Couldn’t have been happier with our entire experience at El Toro Blanco! The new chef is doing a fantastic job. Every dish was so flavorful and slightly unique from typical Mexican fair. Everyone is doing shoshito peppers but the onions with this version took them over the top and made them something truly special (we ordered another side of just the onions to eat with our entrees). Chicken, pork and short rib entrees were all fantastic. Excellent Margarita as well!
Great food that captures the true essence of Mexican cooking. Well-crafted margaritas, carefully balanced between tequila and lime. A staff that's eager to please. Overall, a great experience. We'll be back.
This had been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in NYC. The chicken mole was terrific, the cheese fondue with chorizo was to die for. Now a new chef has been brought in to "lighten" up the menu. She was at Dos Caminos for many years. Why did the owners feel the need for a change? Why fix something that did not need fixing. My first meal there under new management was not as good except for the new pork entree. The service was cordial but the waitress did not know how to bring out the dishes in proper order. The salad should come out first, correct? La Contenta is now my place to go to in the Village.
Terrible management. Terrible food. Wouldn’t recommend over fast food.
This place was great! My friends and i went to catch up. The look itself is amazing and we tried the guac+chips, beef tacos, and chicken tacos - all were flavorful and very tasty. We also had clasico margaritas and they were very good. A recommendation is definitely necessary. You're able to sit at the bar while you waited but there aren't a lot of bar stools so you'll most likely be standing for your wait. The good things is that you can order apps while you wait as well. Overall great time and definitely recommend
It was my first time there but not my last. Great food service and drinks.
Great guacamole and queso fundido!
Great service. Great guacamole. Very loud, so good for a group of friends for having drinks and dinner.
An uneven experience, the waiters are charming and competent, the EBT margarita was amazing and the guacamole was great. Tacos al pastor were also delicious but everything else was subpar. The queso fundido was abismal (maybe the fact that they translate it as “fondue” is a sign), a Tampiqueña entre had raw rice and the steak was unseasoned. A coconut tres leches was old, the cake hard and the flavor stale. Would come back for drinks and guacamole but I’m not returning for dinner.
I live around the corner and was looking for a new Mexican restaurant! The guacamole is delicious, the fish tacos good (only came with two) and the steak entree was excellent. They were very accommodating for a food allergy, and our two toddlers!
