El Toro Blanco Ratings and Reviews
Although the waiter was very nice, it took forever to get someone to get our order. Food although mexican was too spicy for our taste, none of the plates we asked for...were available mild or with the spicy sauce on the side and we were told sauces were premixed already. But most dissappointing, thru my reservation I requested a special "Happy Bday" treat for my friend with dessert, dessert came and no comments, no candle, nothing.
High Expectations*Mediocre Satisfaction. We went here for an early dinner on a Friday night. We beat the crowd, so had a nice quiet meal. The server was very attentive. Plenty of friendly staff. There were 2 issues. The dining room was very warm. While the outside was a mild 80, the room was very uncomfortable. The fact that the doors were open may have been a factor because of NYC law, but provisions like ceiling fans or keeping doors closed with the AC on would have helped. The menu "read" great online, but the execution was not quite there. The empanada was too doughy, but the short rib mixture was flavorful (with salt added at the table). The hot sauce trio was flavorful, but also needed salt. The Lobster tacos were somewhat ok, but lacked any real flavor.
The refried beans were a bowl of black beans, NOT refried. The guacamole was as standard as you can get, but again needed salt. The tortilla pizza with steak was good. A very thin crispy tortilla with the cheeses tomatoes and rajas was very tasty. I might give this place another try, but only after trying other Mexican joints in the vicinity.
My husband and I were in the mood for Mexican and craving Baja fish tacos. We decided on an early dinner. Service was rushing us. Took my husbands appetizer plate when he had food on it and was literally taking a bite! My appetizer was removed when dinner arrived and before we finished and was the best part of the meal. Fish taco was fresh but lacked flavor and needed more spicy sauce. Overall good but needs to work on service.
Went here on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded. Had a reservation and were running late but we were still seated right away. The margaritas were delicious (although heads up- we were asked what kind of tequila we wanted without being informed it could change the price that was listed on the menu). Dinner was great and dessert was also delicious. Very fun atmosphere and nice staff. Will return!
I LOVE this place!! Their guacamole is my favorite in the city! They have a great menu of cocktails & margaritas that are expertly mixed. They even offer mocktails & fun non-alcoholic drinks for anyone not into the booze or preg mamas to be. The menu offers a wide variety of foods. Their cerviches are fresh, the open faced quesadilla is a favorite of mine, & the entrees are delicious, some are lighter where others can be heavier. The restaurant is packed year-round but it's really nice when you can sit outside on a warm night & enjoy the city atmosphere. Go, go, go!!!
