El Torito Grill - Irvine

It was empty in there on Cinco De Mayo. Their Cinco De Mayo "Deals" werent deals at all. They gave our waiter too many tables so service was slow. The food was dry. bad tamales. weird vibe in their. The tablet to pay for food was weird when splitting the check. Because the place is tucked away they should have better advertisements and more deals for major holidays or happy hour to drive traffic. Yeah guys I like El torito but theres a reason why this one was dead on Cinco De Mayo.
Poor experience for Cinco de Mayo. Been here many times, tonight’s poor service and food was definitely off from their norm. Server didn’t seem to realize how many of his tables were visibly and verbally disappointed.
El Torito Grill is a nice change of pace when going out to eat. It's a little pricy but I love the homemade totillas and condiments. I ordered a combination plate and it was good but not great tasting. I ordered a taco but it was made like a burrito. And my corn cake was no bigger than the size of a walnut. I did enjoy the experience though and would still recommend El Torito Grill just don't go in expecting traditional Mexican dishes.
We love El Torito Grille and hope they do not close the two remaining restaurants. We miss the Newport and the Mission Viejo locations. The fresh tortillas are simply the best! Will definitely go again for the Sunday brunch.
We love spending special holidays at El Torito Grill for Brunch. The food is delicious and it's a fun, energetic place. We've had brunch there on Easter and Mother's Day. It's so nice to enjoy a wonderful meal with family and NOT have to cook OR so the dishes!
Both my guest and I were brought the wrong meal. I ordered tableside romaine. He didn’t come to our table with a tableside prep. We were under time constraints so just capitulated when the server didn’t offer to remake but instead suggested that salads he brought were even better than we had ordered. My salad had a sliced chicken breast that had a very spongy, gross texture. Didn’t eat it. Really awful lunch. Won’t be back.
Very tired inside. Sticky tables and menus. Definitely didn’t have the feel of other El Torito Grills. Won’t be back, sadly.
Have come a few times with my 12 year old- he like the kids burrito. The service has gotten a little worse each time and the food has too- so we agreed to find a new place. One exception- taco Tuesday is a good value, you provide your own service, and the food is better...
Love this El Torito location, the food and the staff. Great place for dinner. Don’t be scared away by the new parking kiosk and the parking fee. El Torito will validate your parking.
Made reservation for Friday at 1p. We were seated right way, everybody was friendly.
As this was a business lunch we needed to take it easy. There was one birthday table next to us; else it was pretty empty.
Waiter came by to get the drink order.
He brought drinks, busboy the tortilla and salsas. The tortilla were cold!
We started our discussion after about 5 min the waiter came by to take the order although we each had the menu. Pls instruct your waiter to wait until people close the menus. After another 5 min the waiter came to take our order. I had a tostada salad, my partner a chopped romaine lettuce.
The bottom of the Romaine was brown indicating that the lettuce was not exactly fresh. Instruct your kitchen to chop off the bottom do the lettuce looks clean
My tostada salad was below standard. The tostada was soggy and cold. The salad was nothing special, the dark brown sauce over the chicken horribly tasting. I would describe this as a “corporate Mexican dish”, without any pizzazz
I used to come to ETG quite often under the old regime. The food was excellent, the service excellent. Your place resembles more the old El Torito. Now, there’s really nothing left of the upscaleness or the top quality food preparation of the former ETG. Sad, very sad!
I recommend better training if the waiters and above all better food quality. Maybe you should send your chef to Tijuana to see what contemporary Mexican food is like.
The bartender is fantastic. Provides great service
Our server was polite and helpful. Great job. The tortillas were not fresh as I remembered - no one was working the tortilla grill - so that was a disappointment. We had barely ordered our food and were just beginning to enjoy our cocktails and the food was delivered - got the feeling it was made ahead and had been sitting there. The timing was off. There was a "service charge" on the bill with no explanation - after discussing with server it appears it is a compensation for the company having to pay more in minimum wage - government interference into business is never appetizing. Recommend you just raise your price for menu items if necessary instead of throwing on an additional cost. I know you must do what needs to be done to stay in business, but unexplained additional costs are annoying for the dining experience.....
Our waiter was outstanding his level of customer service was outstanding. The menu lacks more of a variety of foods. The foods they did offer weren’t that great.
Our server was great! Thank you for a terrific experience.
Our waitress Carmen was really nice... I would like to get her again.
Service was great. I think that the valet needs to start earlier since we got there at 11:20 and there was no one in the valet to assist us.
You can always expect great food and the service to match at El Torito!! The homemade tortillas are the best!
Loved our server. Not intrusive but made sure our needs were met.
El Torito Grill never disappoints. My favorite item for lunch is the romaine salad with chicken. It's always so good. The dressing and chicken is what makes it plus all the other toppings. Service always good and the flour tortillas always the best. Hard to stop at just eating one.
You could tell on this day that they were very overbooked you could hardly walk in between tables. That was very uncomfortable but the overall experience was great the people that were waiting on us were wonderful.
Great brunch & selection
Fresh tortillas, chips, and tableside guacamole were fantastic. Salad with chicken was great, love the dressing. Service was excellent.
The bill seemed a little high for a few items like the burritos.
Outstanding service. The Shrimp Diablo was amazing!
I have always loved El Torito but ever since they've closed the San Diego locations I have to drive up to OC. I chose the ET Grill in Irvine to celebrate my son's birthday. The front of house staff was warm and welcoming. We were a party of 5 and we were sat immediately (probably because the restaurant was empty). We got our drinks and butter and salsa but didn't get tortillas until our second round of drinks and I had to ask for chips. When the food came two of the guests received incorrect food so the other guests had to wait for the new orders to be made while their food got cold. Then they offered birthday flan which I noticed later that we got charged for. I'm sorry, but if you're going to offer a birthday treat and charge me, how about letting me pick what I'm paying for. I will not likely return to this location. A huge disappointment for a celebration.
We went to the El Torito Grill for Sunday brunch. It was busier than we expected (definitely make reservations!), but the noise level was acceptable and the food and service were excellent! All of the brunch items we tried were delicious, and I was especially impressed with the made-to-order omelette bar and breakfast burrito bar (the latter even offered fresh-made tortillas!). Our waiter was generous with the champagne pours and brought us orange juice so we could mix our own mimosas. Altogether a delightful brunch!
Love this restaurant!!! Great food and service!!
Great experience! Food was delicious and service was exceptional.
We had a great time playing a game while the food was served at our table.
not to mention the food was delicious.
Thank you for the great service and a lovely dinner.
(a party of 7 ladies)
The table side guacamole is always a hit. The food is always good and I like the new menu selections. I always have to be careful to give friends the exact address so they don’t accidentally end up at the El Torrito rather than the Grilll. BIG difference!
Carlos was our waiter and was great. Very attentive. I love going to a place and get service like that! Outstanding!
Excellent food, service good for such a busy time with our large group. Celebrating a coworker’s departure with a festive and delicious lunch.
Taco Tuesday is always great here! No complaints, our meal and server were great!!
Staff very friendly. Good chips and salsa . Food was so-so.
Very pleasant place and good service. Spacious parking (free).
Great service as usual
We dined following our Church Service and had a very nice experience. The server was very professional and went out of her way to please us. The food was excellent.
It was a Xmas Eve denner.
3 adults and a child.
We ordered 3 appetizer and 2 fajitas as main. all came out nicely and we all are satisfied.
Server kept disappearing. Took 30 minutes to receive the check. We paid cash so there was no reason for the long delays.
