With so many restaurants in Collingswood it can be difficult to choose! We love El Sitio for it's unique cuisine (nothing else like it in the area), delicious appetizers and who doesn't love a BYOB! We highly recommend the ceviche, grilled octopus and (when they have it) the crab dip special is amazing! We have been there for date night, large groups for special occasions and with our 2 year old. We have never had a disappointed dinner companion to date, and the service has always been great no matter the size of our party!
The food was amazing and reasonably priced. Very slow service, from drinks to final course. We even had a member of our party go to the kitchen area to request utensils for the table. There was no want to provide customer service at a high level. While the food was good, I won't be going back.
We dine at El Sitio fairly often, and have noticed that whenever there's an event in Collingswood that results in crowded restaurants up and down Haddon Avenue, El Sitio flounders with service. Perhaps it's understaffing, perhaps it's lack of awareness that large crowds will be in town (and at El Sitio), perhaps the kitchen simply cannot accommodate a full house. The food is always good, but when most tables are full, service consistently falls. Our advice? Go to this restaurant on an off night. It's quieter, and the service is much better!
Ate at El Sitio last night with a group of 7 others. The service was okay- not the best- but the food was fabulous. My biggest complaint was the noise level. This restaurant would be fun for a group of 2 or 3 but it was so loud that you couldn't hear a person more than a few feet away from you.
Prior to reservation looked at menu online to get idea if interested. But after arriving many of the dishes were not on the menu. That was a disappointment. Main courses were served with much time between guests. Had to wait to eat till everyone served. This is a mexican restaurant, not steak and seafood.
Terrible service but great food. Sat without silverware or menus. Asked for both. Date had to find menus and I ended up taking silverware off open table because our empanadas were basically cold by the time we finally got up and retrieved utensils. Asked two different employees for help, to no avail. No manager no supervisor nothing. Nobody stopped over. Unsure about a return trip as this experience was similar to complaints I've heard before with this restaurant.
It was nice to sit outside on such a nice evening although the side street had quite a bit of traffic. The appetizers were very good. We had the Argentine Empanadas and the Octopus with Olive sauce. I wouldn't call it sauce but a puree and it was very good if you like olives. My entree, I cannot call the name was like a South American version of Pepper Steak. It was just average. It was supposed to come with fries but they were out. My wife had a shredded Chicken dish with Manchego cheese which she said was very good.
For dessert I had Lemon Pie which was very good. I love Lemon type desserts.My wife had Chocolate cake and the coffee was excellent. All in all a satisfying meal.
Would comeback in the future.
6 friends went for dinner. I have dined all over the world... from TICKETS in Barcelona to La Panatierre. I seldom have a complaint as culinary is an art - things are not always 100%!
One guest asked the waitress how the flounder was prepared and the response was "on the rare side" - she went with the Salmon; Has anyone ever ordered rare flounder???? Next guest asked if there are onions in of one the entrees, response "no onions"; dish arrives and covered with onions.
Ravioli review was excellent.
Tuna - fantastic.
French onion soup I had was fabulous.
Cesare Dressing tasted as if it was right out of the bottle.
Now for the Tres Leche - I am very picky and if it is not runny and tastes like it is right out of my grandmother kitchen I don't order it. I specifically asked the waitress - is it runny / "gooey" ? It came with out any liquid at all. I sent it back. I explained it was not "traditional" enough for me. Then they bring it to me to go. I called the manager over and said I sent this back why would I want to take this home? The manager proceeded to ask me why I didn't like it and she added "it's a home made recipe."
The bill came and the Tres Leche was still on the bill. We had to argue over it being taken off. Then one of our guests went to speak to the owner - apparently the waitress and manager told the owner that all the concerns from the table was from one guest. Interesting - waitress thinks flounder comes rare and can't tell the difference between 6 people.
Would not go back. Party of Six gratuity is automatically added. Go in 3s and have a bit of control.
There was an event going on in Collingswood today that none of the restaurants seemed prepared for. El Sitio was absolute chaos from the moment we walked in. After we were seated and no one waited on our table for over 10 minutes I asked a waitress whether she knew who was waiting on our table... she replied "oh I guess I can". We ordered waters and iced teas... the water came immediately but we had to ask for the iced teas two more times before we received them. For food we ordered a sampling of appetizers to keep things easy as everyone seemed overwhelmed. It took 45 minutes to get anything. Out of all the food, the only thing I can say that was actually good were the mussels. After receiving the check we didn't see the waitress again for another 10 minutes... we ended up just leaving cash and walking out. Would not return.
Delicious food and wonderful, unique options. Lovely dog-friendly patio and byob. Service was slow and a could've been a little more attentive. We felt a little rushed at the end of the night. We will be back because we really enjoyed the food and patio atmosphere with our pups.
The food was good but the overall service was poor. The waiter couldn't and didn't really care to answer our questions about some of the special/menu items. Also couldn't tell us what the specials were other than one appetizer. He also had no urgency to take our order. Our menus were closed when he came to check on us/bring us bread and he started to walk away without asking if we were ready. When he came back after running our card for the check, he just dropped it off without speaking or saying anything at all. Overall it was just really weird and unpleasant. I've been here before and was super excited to go again but I probably wouldn't go back.
Flavorful food, good service, great atmosphere. What more could you ask for? We had the Skirt Steak and the Flatiron steak special. Both were cooked perfectly at medium-rare. Great prices for a night out. The space does tend to get a bit loud though, but overall very enjoyable.
Dinner with hubby. Went around 5:30. Not crowded. Seated right away. Server was attentive, but then the length of time between our salads and our dinner arriving was a little long. We think they moved our server to the outside seating area as it got crowded and she forgot about us. Dinner could have been hotter. Still good. Mine was very good, stuffed flounder, but could have been hotter. Hubby had braised beef ravioli. Not a lot of braised beef in the ravioli. Should have been more, especially for a special.
