Have been going to El Rio Grande for more years than I remember. It is always a good time. I love their Mexican food so much, I have never yet even tried their Tex Mex. Their traditional Margaritas are heavenly! Nice hip crowd of various age brackets love it here. A little trivia: Liz Smith used to live in the upstairs apartments and loved to go to El Rio Grande!
Very Good food, especially guacamole that was prepared at the table and some sausage dish served in a pan!
Drinks were good, service food and price ok.
great margaritas, food was Delicious, staff was great
Great experience all around
the best in NYC...have been eating there for over 30 years and hope to for 30 more!
Order took much longer than expected. Waiter explained our order was taken by a different waiter.
Service was attentive apart from the delay with our good.
Good food, great service, lovely embience; recommend sitting outside once weather permits
This neighborhood favorite never fails. The food and the drinks were sensational. We did everything but lick the plates!
Love the margarita's here, nice and strong. Also on Tuesday's they have $5 taco specials!
Solid reliable Mexican. Great location. The service is really great. There is a reason this place has been open so long!
Amazing place... amazing food and great service ... the manager took my kids and let's them make their own desert....they loved it!!
The staff is the best!
it's always an enjoyable time.
El Rio Grande has a good vibe and a fine menu, but the actual food is lackluster: cardboard tortilla chips, salsa with an aftertaste, nachos that must've been soggy even before they hit the table, a chicken taco set that wasn't worth it, and a chorizo dish that didn't rise to the occasion. Nothing terrible, just not very good.
The food was definitely very good at El Rio Grande. My only complaint is that the restaurant should tell you that when you are seated outside, that you will be served in plastic cups. In my opinion the plastic cups killed the whole ambiance of the restaurant and the wonderful variety of mojitos they serve. It wasn't even nice plastic cups...they were cheap ones you use when having a family BBQ. (I wouldnt even use those cups for any event- FYI- Solo Cups do come in clear cups now) That was a sincere turn-off . Other than that, good place to have a casual outing with friends.
We went for an early dinner on a Monday. Sat in Mexico room. Quite nice. The other side of restaurant is Texas?! It was not crowded and service was great. Food we had was Enchilada combo and Conchonitas were very good. Large portions. Tasty. Cadillac Margaritas were great, and strong ! Would definitely go again.
My husband and I have been coming here for decades. The food is delicious and fresh and the relish tray is fantadtic. Diane, the manager, is simply the best. She's warm and so welcoming. The Fajita Asada and enchiladas are sooooo good.....not to mention the frozen margaritas! It's a great place to dine.
Best mexican food in nyc. Best margaritas anywhere!
A nice find in Manhattan. It's in a commercial building with a terrific patio that's apparently very popular (it was raining the day we went, but it looked great). The food is typical American Tex Mex. The ingredients were fresh and tasty, particularly the tray of relishes. We took our kids there for an early dinner and by the time we left you could see the young 20-somethings from the neighbourhood coming out to be seen there. The service was top-notch, and the price was excellent for New York City. It's not a fancy restaurant, but for comfort and value it's terrific! I will definitely go back when I'm back in New York again.
Great dinner for tourists who didn't want a touristy place. Guacamole made table side was delicious starter. Atmosphere on patio perfect for a nice evening.
Our preferred seating was easily accommodated. My strawberry margarita on the rocks was delicious and strong, I couldn't even finish it, though I wanted to! The steak nachos appetizer was awesome and chicken fajitas, steak tacos and vegetarian burrito were fantastic! You can eat healthy or not here, it's up to you!
As always, the food and service at Rio Grande were excellent!! I've been a diner here for many, many years and the level of quality and flavors never falters. This time, it was a pleasant evening weather-wise and we ate outside. Could not have been more perfect. The south (Mexican) terrace is lovely and away from city noise and traffic. My dinner companion was a friend who lives in Westchester. Rio Grande has become her 'go to' restaurant when she is in NYC (which is often). The best!!
Enjoyed early dinner Saturday with wife and kids. Margaritas, tableside Guacamole, queso dip and our entrees were excellent as was the service.
Reserved through Open Table, and in the reservation description, told them of our plans to see a Broadway show later that night. The staff actually paid attention to the reservation note, and did everything they could, to get us out the door on time. Truly, great customer service, care, and concern.
Their food was the best Latin food in the city. At first, when we tried Latin food at Grand Central, we believed it just wasn't as good as it was in Arizona. El Rio Grande however, put that notion to rest! They made me believe in Mexican food again, in NYC.
The tables are dressed beautifully, with white linens, and the views from the windows are vast. When we're back in NYC, we will go again. Outstanding experience.
went for Sunday brunch and the choices were good. Huevos rancheros were great as were the sweet rolls that came with our orders
Live Rio! Food and drinks are great! Steak nachos and steak fajitas are GREAT! I keep going back and also recommend to friends 😊
My dog an I love this restaurant, Food good, drinks fine service consistant
The Texas side is more energetic than the Mexico side. If you are looking for a semi-quiet dinner, try Mexico. If you like the energetic bar-scene, can't beat Texas.
My niece graduated from college
Since the day El Rio Grande opened it has remained to be an excellent restaurant. The food has remained fabulous. Love this place!
Always a good spot. Love the guacamole and margaritas!
This was my first time back at Rio Grande since 1988. It's longetivity speaks for itself. We were on the Mexico side and the food and margueritas were as fantastic as I remembered .... and it's fun to walk through the kitchen from the Mexico side to the Texas side!
El Rio Grande never disappoints. Has been in the neighborhood forever! Food is very good and the frozen margaritas are even better :)
Great Drinks +great food = Great Fun with Friends. We had a great time as always at this tried and true tex-mex restaurant!
Always my fave when Im in town. One of few restaurants that has been around as long as I can remember.
El Rio Grande was a bit too fancy and anonymous for a Mexican restaurant. The tables were much too close together. You have a feeling of having no privacy what-so-ever, and anyone trying to pass your table bumped into your chair or the table in the process. The restaurant was far too loud to carry on a normal conversation. The food on the other hand was well prepared. Everything tasted fresh. We did have the impression that we were being rushed in and out.
My husband and I love this place.! We get the best treatment and the food is delicious! We've been going here for decades. My husband loved the chimichurri sauce. I had chicken enchiladas and they were superb. Don't forget to ask for the relish tray. Then there are the frozen margaritas which taste fantastic. You get a choice of different flavored ones too.
Although the space is very tight, my friends and I had a delicious meal and a great time. Our waitress was very attentive, the margaritas were good and strong and I loved my shrimp quesadillas and avocado fries! Reservations are definitely recommended.
Great time with good food. Staff were all pleasant and accommodating.
Was the easy choice for a good neighborhood restaurant for a Sunday brunch as it is dependable, accommodating, kid friendly, good value and great steak nachos. Right accross the street.
Loved it. Great food and great Margheritas! Can't wait to go back.
