About El Ranchito
In 1983, after the success of La Calle Doce, Oscar and Laura Sanchez wanted to open another restaurant but they didn’t want to duplicate their previous success nor did they want to open just another Tex-Mex restaurant. Oscar wanted something that wasn’t found in Dallas, something that reminded him of home. Since both Oscar and Laura are from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon in Northern Mexico, they decided to open a restaurant that specialized in Comida Norteño (northern food) and Tex-Mex featuring dishes such as cabrito, mollejas, and asado de puerco. Today El Ranchito is known for it’s authentic Mexican food, freshly made tortillas and festive atmosphere where mariachis play daily. These elements – the food, the music and the friendly staff – have helped El Ranchito achieve it’s ultimate goal of creating an atmosphere where the customer feels as if they are back home in Monterrey.

El Ranchito Ratings and Reviews
My family and I have been going to El Ranchito for a while now. Whether it's a weekend family meal or a special occasion, they never disappoint. The food is great, authentic Mexican full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The servers are also very friendly and professional. What's there not to like about this place?
We had an excellent dining experience celebrating a family birthday, would absolutely recommend this place for the food and ambiance. This is not the only time I have been here, several other times have been just as fun and enjoyable as the time before, would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful meal and an exciting atmosphere!!
My wife and I were celebrating our 22nd anniversary. My wife is the one who mentioned El Ranchito and I called to make reservations. Upon our arrival we were greeted and received very well. We were there 30 minutes early so we went to the bar and had a couple drinks. We were then escorted to our table and continue to have a fantastic fabulous time with the mariachis playing great music and them dancing. Our waiter was Carlito's and was fantastic on making sure that we were well served with everything on the menu. My wife and I will have a very memorial 22nd anniversary thanks to El Ranchito.
Love the kitsch of this place. We had a great waiter. Not many vegetarian options and they are mostly cheese (not the healthiest ingredient). I had stopped going there because at night the mariachis are deafening, but they weren't there at lunch:)
Wouldn't mind the mariachis either, if they just weren't so LOUD.
All six adults had grilled meat. The meat plate for three was just right for 3-4 people. We had beef, sausage and chicken. We did not get shrimp. We also got Guacamole. It was cooked medium to well and did not take long. The meat was tasty. We had a two and six year old. The server provided them with crayons and kid menus to draw on. NOTICE- they do not carry kid only drinks such as apple juice or milk. Bring your own. The only disappointment is my wife wanted to come here for the Mariachi bands. We came early (6:30) because the kids get hungry. We knew the bands (often two bands) start at 7 pm. (Saturday nite). We left around 7:45 pm and the members were just wondering in. If you want the music (and it is fun to listen to) come after 7:30. I understand if you make a request you are expected to tip $20. Listening is free. I would love to hear other comments on this. My first beer was not cold enough (Pacifico). I complained and my second beer was cold. Make a Reservation on Weekends.
The Mariachis played 10 songs while we drank and enjoyed the music and singing. We had a great time and after 15 years of dining at El Ranchito we always leave happy and full!
Suggestion: Make reservations. It gets really busy on the weekends, but the wait is worth it.
Great ambiance for the long surving neighborhood joint. Lively mariachi band was terrific and really made the place festive. Unfortunately, my palate wasn't as entertained by the food. Chile con queso was oddly watery, bland, and pale. Queso isn't hard to make to begin with and any place worth their salt that serves Tex-Mex or Mexican food shouldn't mess that up. Salsa and chips were nice; warm chips meeting with a slightly spicy red salsa. Her fajitas had a nicely cooked down assortment of yellow peppers and onions however the beef was overcooked and made out of a pounded down piece of meat more fitting for a torta than fajitas. I ordered the fried tripe but got fried intestines. That one's on me as I know the translations in the offals game can vary from organ to organ. What was inexcusable was the abundant amount of "material" still left in the tract. A rocks and a frozen marg were severed cold and strong but my unfinished chalice was replaced with silverware setting for four. I'm taking that as a hint that we overstayed our welcome? Good place for some traditional music or even better, Elvis impersonators but can't recommend the food.
I think that some of the menu items need tweaking. The shrimp cocktail is not so good and the other items were fair. The wait staff seems overwhelmed and $20 for one song from the Mariachis seemed steep. Not as nice when I first visited years ago. They also seemed to be rushing you out by clearing the table while you are still eating. They knew it was a birthday party and no special treatment like with other places. Disappointing. Sorry but wouldn't recommend. I had 7 in my party and it was $180 and $40 on Mariachi didn't seem worth it. Only ordered 3 alcohol beverages, so it wasn't like we were all having cocktails. Needs improvement.
The most outstanding service from our waiter, he was personable and attentive despite the crowded restaurant, we only had to request things once, especially bringing out the cake when the mariachi started the second song as I requested..The restaurant overall was really good and we look forward to returning...the only one thing I would mention is that please explain when making the reservation that the party cannot be seated until everyone is there...
Fabian and Susana...
Our group usually goes here at least once o month we love the atmosphere, the food is awesome and the margaritas are the best!! We always ask for our favorite server Jovanna. She is so efficient and always takes such good care of us. Even if She is off when we go we enjoy any server we have. Never had a bad experience. Thank you El Ranchito!!!
