El Patron Mexican Restaurant and Cantina Ratings and Reviews
I made a reservation for 2 but I needed a reservation for 3. When I called to correct the number in my party the lady who answered said ok and that was that. When I got there she said the reservation had been canceled. I explained I only called to add 1 more person not to cancel. then when we got there we gave the hostess a cake we brought for our friends birthday. She sat us and still only gave us 2 menues and 2 silverware sets. When we ordered we got the big fiesta platter so the 3 of us could share and we got some drinks. When they brought our plate they came behind us asking if it was ours. We replied yes and began to clear the center of the table but the waiter was in too much of a hurry that he just left the huge plate at the edge of our table. So we fixed our plate and then waited for a server to pass by because they didn't bring us plates for this huge platter we had ordered.. then when we asked for the cake again we asked for plates and the server just sewed annoyed like it's too much for her to even deal with. The atmosphere was nice but with such bad service it's not worth the drive.
I was pleasantly surprised with dinner on Saturday night. I've been to El Patron several times and felt it was "ok". This time, I was quite impressed. Our server was wonderful. I'm very allergic to cilantro and have always stressed that to our server at any restaurant for any kind of food. This time, our server actually listened, jotted down notes and served a delicious - cilantro free meal.
I will happily return to El Patron.
Recommended to us so we thought, lets check it out for Cinco De Mayo, the line was out the door, no parking in their lot or anywhere on the side streets so we went else where... The next afternoon my man said "let's go back and check out El Patro, happy we did the drinks, service and food were excellent.....!
Our overall experience was okay. Meal and food service was good HOWEVER our Open Table reservation was not honored. We arrived 15 Minutes early and had received confirmation emails only to be told they had no reservations for anyone that night. Another couple there was told the same. No apologies for the situation, just "we don't have reservations today."
Very good--and ample--Mexican food. My wife had the fajitas and she really liked them. High quality chicken and lots of condiments. I had the house burrito and it was massive, and delicious. There's a lot of pretty good Mexican food in Southern California and El Patron is a little better than most. The house margarita was excellent. They have an outdoor patio and I can easily imagine drinking margaritas all afternoon in the shade. The evening we went it was fairly loud, as they had a live band playing. It was fun, but El Patron is not ideal if you are looking for a quiet meal. Our server was fantastic. That really enhanced the experience.
What an AMAZING experience!! We were a family of 30, and they worked with us 100%. The waiters, bartender, and chef were very friendly and understanding! Amazing hospitality! Amazing ambiance! Amazing Customer Service!.... and let's not forget the Bottomless Mimosas!..... Rate: 10/10!
We enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner for my son. The food was good portions and there were several vegetarian options. Although I think it is very nice to have live music on Saturday nights, it was important to us to be in a separate area so that we could talk. Thanks for a fun night.
The food was fair. The chips were good, but the salsa was bland. The guacamole was good. The chili relleno was really undercooked and the coating subpar. The margaritas were quite good and very huge selection of tequilas. The enchiladas were also good. Service was quite friendly and they have lots of big screens if you like viewing sports.
Come here quite a lot, great food and drinks large restaurant with indoor or outdoor covered patio seating! Love the ceviche, tacos and and all the quesadillas. During the summer great outdoor ambiance with wonderful water mist to relax with a drink and enjoy a summer night with great friends or a romantic outing.
Service was good, but a little disappointed with the overall quality of food. The beans were dry, and the rice tasted like Rice o' Roni. Usually homemade authentic Mexican Rice and beans are soft, and of melts in your mouth, it's usually something you remember, not feel disappointed with. I ordered a combo plate with 1 chicken taco and 1 cheese enchilada, and I have to say the portions were quite small for the price. Usually Mexican Restaurants give you a ton, and are very generous with their portions, but I did not find that here. The cheese enchilada sauce was very bright red, and really didn't have much flavor to it, and the chicken was a bit hard, almost like it was frozen. I rather go to Los Torros, or Salsa & Beer, or even El Torito next time!
