El Paso Mexican Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My old school friends decided to get-together before the holiday rush and a a place that was "centrally" located so I chose El Paso. It did not disappoint. Its right off the 6 train so perfect for all of us. The red sangria there is terrible but everything else was delicious. The ambiance was very pretty and the music playing in the background was light enough so that the table across from us couldn't hear our conversation but not too loud where we couldn't hear ourselves.
With great company and good food and drinks....how could we go wrong. Overall, we had a great time.
My colleagues and I went for lunch after a session at the Museum of the city of New York. I had made a reservation but there was plenty of room - cocktails and guacamole were offered and arrived promptly, service was quick, cocktails and liquor selection was good, food satisfied everyone.
This place was really good. We don't eat up here a lot so we were flying blind, but the tacos were awesome and the Vuelve a la vida was flavor-packed without being too salty. The oysters were pretty good, but I was just happy to see them on the menu, and they weren't overpriced. The wine was so-so. I'd come back.
One of the best Mexican restaurants we've dined at in NYC. Worth the effort to get there if you don't life in East Harlem or on the east side. The food is delicious. Great cocktails (and selection). Decor with artifacts and design from Mexico and not the cheesy beverage company sponsored decor. Great outdoor patio if you are there for warm weather. Can be noisy sitting next to groups.
This is the worst experience I ever have!! Manager is so rude !!! I can't believe the way this Mg treat costumers ... Alvaro was not professional when I ask if I can't change my plate cuz was so spicy ... his answer was Well if u don't like it I should go some where else !! Really?? I hope the owner realize that his business is going done .. and I hope is not too late !! I work for a multinational company and I'll will send a mail to everyone in my company telling them to Don't come to El Paso !!! Good luck. U r gonna need it !! Hospitality??? Not this is Embarrassing!!
I just to love this place ... but ... WHAT HAPPENED??? It was a fun place to have a nice relax dinner ... now it's like everyone is stress ... no fun and what happen with the music??? So sad ... and who is the new Mg ..skinny guy with a super star attitude?? ... no more huitlacoche??? I don't now if I coming back !!
I give 5 stars cuz my server was very nice and really make our nite amazing... He explained the menu and all his recommendations were excellent... food it's good music it's terrible... drinks r ok ... a little weak ... never saw any manager .... bathroom are really dirty... but I forgive you cuz my server (William if am not wrong ) Sing Happy Birthday for me !!! We definitely coming back and I hope they really change the cocktail menu and please clean the bathrooms !!!
El Paso never disappoints a true gem in East Harlem. We go from time to time, but never realized how spacious the restaurant is. Great decor, feels like you are on vacation. Food is very authentic and friendly service that feels like family. Definitely try El paso! A neighborhood staple!
My experience started out bad and went to worse.
I looked up the restaurant online on 5/4/17 and 5/5/17 and compared it to others based on the posted dinner menu. That's how I ended up choosing this restaurant. However when I get seated at my table, I am given an entirely different menu; a limited Cinco de Mayo dinner menu, which was NEVER posted on their website. I was extremely disappointed being stuck with such limited dinner menu and very embarrassed because my friend had also been counting on choosing food from the dinner menu shown online.
When I ordered tequila, the waitress disappeared and I received it 25 minutes later in a tiny disposable plastic, bottle cap-sized receptacle. --Presentation left much to be desired.
We ordered Empanadas as an appetizer, AND IT NEVER ARRIVED.
We both ordered the same main dish [Carnitas Michoacanas at $22], AND we each received a plate with cubed chunks of pork meat, half of an onion, half of a habanero pepper and a thinly-spread bean sauce on the plate. That was it!
After the waitress had been missing in action throughout our entire meal, she finally showed up and brought us only one check, despite the fact that I informed her as soon as I ordered my drink, that it would be separate checks. Anyhow, we reviewed the bill, and saw that after tax it came to $56.62. I gave the waitress my credit card to charge the whole amount on it because we feared she'd mess up if we asked her to charge us separate amounts accordingly. So she brought back the receipt to be signed and we surprisingly noticed that the new total amount reads $65.98. The waitress took it upon herself to award herself 18% gratuity for her so-called service to our table. --That was rude, distasteful and inappropriate.
Service was nonexistent. The waitress never came to our table to ask how was our meal going, or if we wanted more drinks; NOTHING. She never showed up again at our table after taking our order, until it was time to give us the bill.
Very disappointed. Was looking forward to yummy margaritas, guacamole, enchiladas and ceviche. I love a spicy drink, so ordered the jalapeño margarita. It was so spicy, it was not drinkable. In fact, my tongue and food of mouth are still feeling residual effects the next day. Guacamole was odd--had pineapple in it, none of the normal flavors. The ceviche was the best thing, next to the tortilla chips--but was a very small portion for the cost. The enchiladas were extremely mediocre and rice had little flavor. Never imagined just how bad a Mexican dining experience could be. Now I've lived it.
Terrible Food ... carnitas Michoacánas chunk of fat meat salty flavors .. enchiladas Suizas not chicken at all grease and messy... asada tacos ..tiny two peaces of meat no flavor Flan is the most horrible thin I ever try ..probably from The supermarket next door !! Super expensive 2 people $180. Drinks are weak. Don't bother coming here.
This is a Mexican Gem! As we search for great Mexican food in NYC, El Paso rises to the heights of this short list. The food was delicious and authentic with a selection to please many palates. The decor was artistic, rustic and brought a piece of the Mexico food scene to NYC. The service was good, but uneven (guac &chips showed up after entrees were served). The patio is fantastic and we enjoyed fresh air from the open front on a spring evening.
