Super noisy but fun.
Table for 6 reservation was ready at 7:30 on a busy Saturday night, so that was a plus. Guacamole was fantastic, but food otherwise dismally average.Chips and salsa were good. Beans and rice were bland. Cheese and poblano tamales were inedible; two came with the order but I could only eat half of one; ratio of masa to filling was way off, with a thick coat of masa to undetectable filling; truly, it was like eating a wad of masa. Waiter was inattentive, and the kitchen, even after the rush slowed down, was slow; we waited while several other tables after us received their guacamole, then their food. We watched several tables finish and leave before our food arrived. Overall, nothing to recommend it over any other average Mexican restaurant in town.
I live in the neighborhood and have been going to El Mariachi for years. At some points we would go once a week. At this point we may visit once every 6 months. Something has changed... at first the staff became less friendly but the food was still great. After the last few visits the food quality has also declined.
We made a reservation for 12:30. Got there on time and had to wait another 25 minutes to be seated. They were VERY crowded for their Saturday Brunch. Normally we wouldn't have minded the wait but the cut off for the bottomless mimosas was 2:00 pm so we were a little annoyed since we had to rush through our brunch. The food wasn't the best but overall the service was good.
Don’t sit by the bar for brunch if you’re seeking speedy service. The term “bottomless” is used loosely considering we hit it several times waiting for refills.
I love El Mariachi and always have at least one meal there when I am in town. The venue is small but doesn’t ever feel crowded. The portions are generous without being excessive. Great margaritas. Great salsa. Everything on the menu is authentic and fresh. Service is swift and attentive. They do take out and delivery. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. There is also a great neighbourhood bar next door - Jacqueline’s - for before or after. Reservations recommended for special days like Cinco de Mayo. Highly recommended.
Very disappointed with service and responsiveness to dietary restrictions (vegetarian).
Love this place! Great margaritas, fun ambiance, and a large menu!
Fantastic place for brunch. We came on St. Patrick’s day and the mimosas were green - food fantastic, pricing really reasonable.
We get there at 9:15 me and my boyfriend are vegetarians we order our food but we had completely different food when we ask why the server said we are out of that so the chef decide to give us what he like whit meat. We decide to go straight to dessert and when I asked for the dessert menu the server said “sorry the kitchen is close”
Just horrible horrible place
Great brunch deal. Food is delicious. Mimosa deal is fantastic. Cocktails are creative and yummy. Service is friendly and upbeat
I love El Mariachi and I eat there frequently. Yesterday, the experience was completely different for a party of 15 people and I was very disappointed. We purchased Bottomless Mimosa brunch - the server only filled our glasses twice, three small basket of chips for 15 people (did not offer offered more after they were gone), we had to listen despacito song more the than 10 times (only song they played), the server dropped some Platanos Al Tequila French Toast sweet 3 leches syrup on my sweater. In general the experience was ok, no pleasant. Would I try again, yes!
The service was great, food was prompt, and our glasses were almost never empty. The value was great for the brunch package and the personalization for my birthday celebration was fantastic. The restaurant accommodated my group and mad for a great event.
Great place for boozy brunching with friends!
Great bottomless mimosas special!
I am a regular the food is always hot and taste great and let's not forget the margaritas
A decent spot, but for advertising National Margarita Day all over social media they were very understaffed. 10 minutes to greet table, never checked on how food was, when asked if we were ready for check my response was “I’ve been waiting on a margarita for 20 minutes now.” Not an ideal experience. I’ll still go back. Manager was trying hard - perhaps they had call offs.
I think our server was covering too many tables so the service was horrible. Took 40 minutes before they took our food order. He also never came back around after the food was served so I found a bus boy who could find condiments and never got a second drink. He was friendly enough, just spread too thin.
This place had GREAT FOOD and a great deal for brunch. Will definitely be coming back!!
Great margarita choices!
Lakeview neighborhood find for authentic Mexican fare! Gather with friends or first date for a grande margarita or exotic smokey pineapple one. Javier was a pleasant and graceful server. The table side guacamole is such fun and delicious. You will be swept away to embrace viva la Mexico!
I’ve been here many times. The food is generally okay, but the service is subpar, and on this last occasion, it was awful. We saw our server three times: once to take our drink order, once to take our food order, and again, when we flagged him down to get the check at the end of the meal. He never checked on us, which is a shame for him, because we would have purchased more drinks if he had showed up.
Fun night. Food was good. Restaurant was short-staffed that night. I felt bad for our waiter.
First time & will definitely be back!! Endless mimosas and great food, and you can't beat the ambiance.
We had a 615 res for nye. When we arrived we were offered only one table choice. It was near a door through which people were continuously coming and going. It was 1 degree outside. We sat there for a few minutes with our coats on, then realized we could not enjoy our dinner this way. We told the greeter and we left. This restaurant has a sister restaurant a few blocks away and I was amazed that the greeter did not at least offer to check the availability of a table at that location. We drove over there ourselves and were fortunately able to have a lovely dinner there. But the hospitality at the larger restaurant where we actually had reservations was non existent.
The food is great, the restaurant was freezing though. All guests were wearing winter coats.
Brunch was awesome. The mimosa brunch deal is great. The menu has a lot of choices. The chips and salsa was tasty! Mimosas were very good.
Really great value! Perfect for Sunday brunch/bottomless mimosas. Was very noisy but this did not get in the way of the great food, service, and quick refills!
Great food and service
Ok food. Slow as molasses service. You’ll be lucky if you can even get your waiter’s attention to order another drink.
To the manager's credit he comped our meal for what happened and my friend says this isn't typical.
However, it was a weekend, even though there were tables open, it took 15 minutes to get seated, once we were seated it took 30 minutes to get our first beverage. Then another 30-40 to get our food. The waiter basically ignored us other than delivering the food. Overall, it took 1 hr 45 minutes for 1 pitcher of plain margaritas and 2 plates of a basic entree. The food itself was good. Due to the manager being so apologetic, I'll probably try it again sometime to see if the service really was just a one time thing.
Our experience was okay. Waiters were nice, but they put our food at another table. After the other diners had opened my tamales with their fork, the wait staff realized the food was at the wrong table. Instead of offering to make us new food, they slapped it down on our table. Since the food hadn’t been eaten at all, we felt bad wasting it, but in the end the food was not very good. The tamales were very dry, bland, but super spicy. Will not return.
This restaurant group has some of the best food in the neighborhood and some of worst service. It was a Saturday night and the place was about half full. It took nearly 15 min to get 2 margaritas and another 15-20 minutes for a burrito and 2 tostadas. Our server was barely around and there was, what appeared to be a manager, walking around the dining room asking if everything was ok. He seemed to be oblivious to the fact that our waters were empty, we'd been sitting for a long period without drinks, the table next to us had their credit cards out, and the table on the other side was sitting there with dirty dishes in front of them, clearly done with their meal. We'll go back because we love the food, and we've come to expect drinks to take a while, but hopefully the service will be better.
Great food! Great atmosphere! Great drinks! Came in no waiting for table. Great service
Some real effort is going into making this place a bit more than run of the mill. The sopes with plantain showed some real imagination. Too many dishes are still just ordinary Mexican-American choice-of-chicken-or-beef. The special Baja tacos with grilled mahi-mahi had a superior salsa, and the refried beans were fresh. Margaritas tasted of tequila and weren't as oversweetened as some, but were quite tame. Would return, but would hope they could find a table for two that wasn't up against a large group that shouted from one end of their table to the other.
Our server was excellent. Great recommendation on the jalapeno margarita. Give him our thanks.
Food was very good. Prices were reasonable. The table spacing was a bit crowded, but the service was good. We walked there after a Cubs game. You definitely want to make a reservation if going after a game. A lot of Cubs fans had the same idea.
They need to do a better job posting their brunch hours on the website!
Come to this place a lot and generally have a good time. Service was awful this time around which was a bummer since we had out of town guests with us.
The only negative was the smell of the garbage in the patio area
