El Mansour Ratings and Reviews
We came to the restaurant early, after a matinee at the Symphony. My out-of-town guest had a passing familiarity with Moroccan cuisine, so this was not totally new. I had dined at El Mansour years 35-40 ago in their first location, but this was my first time at 3119 Clement. The service is terrific and the food is wonderful. We were only sorry that we finished dinner before the belly dancing started.
It was a quiet night but the staff was gracious & welcoming. We were there for my boyfriends birthday and they played some happy birthday music when they brought out dessert with a candle. We also got a private lesson with the belly dancer which was really fun! The atmosphere was really relaxing, beautifully decorated & comfortable.
We went to El Mansour for a 40th birthday and the relaxed seating and atmosphere was perfect. We could move around because the food was family style and the seating was very cozy. The service was good and our server in particular was very patient with our group. The belly dancing was of course a hit, especially to the 10 year old girl in our group who got to participate!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary by having dinner at El Mansour. Our night couldn't have been better. We had never tried Morrocan food before but came in with an open mind and empty bellies. Our dinner started with bread and delicious lentil soup. Then traditional Moroccan salad and an appetizer that is like if you mix a chicken pot pie with funnel cake. It was delicious. Our main course was chicken and vegetables and my husband had the chicken and lamb. All flavorful and tender. Bread still making the rounds. While we enjoyed our main course we enjoyed a beautiful bellydancer who let some of us patrons join in on the dancing. We finished with dessert and delicious mint tea. Our server even brought us a special surprise for our celebration. Overall an amazing experience we both enjoyed fully.
Been going here for decades. It's a little dated but the Morracan food is excellent and the belly dancers have always been very good and wonderfully entertaining. Dancer comes on at 8:00 or a little after. Don't go too early or you'll miss her.
Limited menu of lamb chicken or vegatarian, not inexpensive but excellent!
We were there to celebrate my daughter's bday, definitely a special occasion spot.
The food was delicious and our server explained every single dish that came our way.
Belly dancer invited my daughter to perform a few steps, we had a blast.
I will definitely come back.
When we arrived at 7:30 on a Wednesday evening in mid-August no one was there to greet us. Despite there only being a few people there, it was loud. It was also way too dark.
We waited for at least 5 minutes and no one showed up. One of our party even walked to the back of the restaurant to the kitchen to see if anyone was around--no one was there, either.
El Mansour is poorly managed. Bad service keeps people away even if the food is OK, but we didn't want to risk anything.
Excellent place for a fun night out with friends and family. We were there for a gathering and there were a lot of families, some with very young children. They have a belly dancer who performed twice during the time we were there. During the performance, the belly dancer prompts people, not aggressively, to join. After a few drinks, we did, along with several cute kiddos from the table next to us. Hence, this is a great place for families and friends. We had reservations but several of our friends were stuck in traffic and they accommodated us half an hour later. They were very nice about it. Not only that, we unknowingly stayed until they closed (all other chairs and tables were put up) and no one interrupted us. Additionally, the food was very good! What a great place to dine! We'll definitely be back!!
We've been coming for 40 years and it has maintained its high standards and consistent good food during this whole time. It's fun for groups especially on the weekends with the belly dancer. Great for families. The price for all the courses you get is a bargain.
Dining at El Mansour was an amazing experience. Walking in the front door surrounded by tiles the interior environment transported us to Morocco. Comfortable low banquets with pillows and ottomans surround low circular tables. Each of the multiple courses was delicious. We were especially impressed with the sweet/savory pastry (Bastela du Chef) that came before the main course course, and couldn't stop eating it, though I feared I might not have room for the lamb and chicken kabobs. The hand washing offered at table added extra charm. This was prior to the meal and after the main course - at which point we were offered the addition of rose water, which was softening and fragrant. Everything was distinctive and delicious, from soup to dessert. A belly dancer performed during our meal. She was charming and her performance was family friendly. She engaged many of the patrons to participate in dancing and it was delightful. A wonderful evening!
Had a real nice birthday with my family here Sunday. The owner met us and checked in on us frequently, as did the waiters. Outstanding service. The 5 course meal was very good, and one of the few times I can remember where both my teenage kids liked it. The bellydancer was also great. We are big eaters, and we were all pretty stuffed with the courses. It was not cheap by any means, but for something a bit different, you cant go wrong here. All the meats were perfectly cooked, and sauces very delicious. Again, quite expensive, but you get what you pay for.
We have gone to this restaurant many times in the past and generally had a good time. This last time, however, the chicken was over cooked, the service was rushed and not as personable as it was in the past. One of the fun things about the restaurant is the belly dancing. This time the music was too loud and it seemed like the sound system did not work well which did not add up to a relaxing fun experience. For the price point, I expected more and felt like the service is not the same as it has been in the past
El Mansour is a very special place. It reminds me of the times when dining wasn't just about eating, but was a full entertainment experience. The live belly dancing is especially fun. Every aspect of the way food and drink is delivered is meant to entertain including the pouring of the the tea, which is poured from a great height.
Soufiane was amazing host/waiter. Very friendly and attentive. Food was very good. Nice addition was that there was a belly dancer as well.I celebrated special occasion and they made sure that we felt special and taken care of very well. I would recommend it.
I count on this place for celebrations, visiting friends and family night. The owner is always onsite and welcoming. The staff is superb and the belly dancers are amazing. You are welcome to get up and dance with the dancer. She will even give you tips.... so be sure to tip her too.
Beautiful room. Comfy couch seating.
While they do offer forks, eat with your hands as it is customary.
Through the years we've celebrated with friends here, brought family, enjoyed small group dinners. It's always a fun experience from the communal washing of the hands, enjoying the lentil soup, bastela and veggies to the main course with desserts and mint tea. Eat everything and don't just save your appetite for the entrée as all the sides are way more fun. Topped off with the tent-like atmosphere and the wonderful belly dancer, this evening amused nieces and nephews and grandmothers alike.
Note that Tuesday night: 6 groups were seated, in total. 5 of the 6 had birthdays.
Owners are fantastic. Dancer was very good.
All food is extremely overcooked and poorly prepared. Except the bread was fantastic and lentil soup was ok. Braised lamb lost all flavor. Grilled lamb was overcooked and tough. Wife and daughter liked the scallops and shrimp, but I didn't. Veggies were mushy and greasy.
Overall, the room and food felt tired. I hope they consider updating their cooking approach because they are so very very nice.
Good for a birthday kept my sons entertained and felt special. The food was great though too much. We ordered 3 dishes for 4 people and we had left overs. Almost two dishes would have been enough as you have some soup, appetizers, salad and then the dish and desert to close.
Attended for my birthday with friends. The ambiance was excellent, the service was very friendly, and the food was very good. I loved the 5 course meal layout. Adil was a great server and host. They offered a birthday dessert and belly dancing as well! Highly recommend 5/5
What a fantastic find!!! The decor took you away to Morroco....the wait staff was so attentive and gracious and the food was unbelievable!! We got there at 7pm and was able to get settled in and order our dinner just before the belly dancing begin. Our dancer was wonderful, and very entertaining. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in town for the weekend and they made it very special.
We ordered everything family style, per the recommendation of the server. However, we had a vegetarian at the table, so we requested that we replace one of a meat dishes with an extra vegetable dish to make sure there were still vegetables available for the rest of the group. Instead, the servers brought us 3 lamb dishes, one seafood dish, and only one vegetable dish, which was barely enough for one person. We ended up asking for two additional separate orders of vegetables.
Additionally, the 3rd lamb dish is not one we would have ordered. It was almost sickly sweet, like the lamb had been doused in syrup before roasting. The meat quality was great, and it was well cooked, but the sweetness made it almost inedible.
