El Hefe - Tempe
At El Hefe in Tempe, the atmosphere is unlike any place you have ever dined, in town or anywhere else for that matter. It is fun, energetic, casual, and full-tilt crazy at times. The only thing that is truly serious about El Hefe is the food which is made from scratch with high-quality fresh ingredients. Well, scratch that, because the 20-ounce margaritas as well as the house special bulldog-garita which is 32 ounces are pretty serious too.
The Mexican cuisine menu at El Hefe in Tempe has a number of great choices, including tacos, enchiladas, salads and appetizers. Notable mentions are the queso fundido dip, supermacho bowl and fried avocado tacos.
The food is good but it is SUPER noisy if you want to talk, if you want to have a good time with friends just hanging with fun music its perfect
It was not just noisy and dirty but the service was pathetic and servers did not care. We had to chase to get silverware and get our order properly fulfilled. Food was mediocre.
Food was some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in quite a while. Only complaint was the loud rap music and the drunk guy dancing up and down the aisles. That being said, I understand we’re near a college campus so I get who the primary market is. Service was great and tacos and queso were amazing so this old guy would come back despite the music!
The Open Table app let us make New Years Eve reservation and we showed up promptly to be told after 10 minutes that the kitchen closed over an hour ago. Didn’t even try to act like they wanted our business.
We will never go back and can see why it was empty compared to every place else on Mill Avenue. Also because it was w/in 2 hours the app wouldn’t let us make a new reservation and told us to call the restaurant to cancel/make changes. Called El Hefe and no one would answer the phone or has still not called back.
Great food excellent service!
Not really authentic Mexican food. Salsa was bland at best and everthing was Gringo. The cadilacc margarita was not even close and they used Sugar around the rim?? Sugar?? Really?? New that's me, my east cost colleagues thought it was fine, but that's east coast.
I made a res for my son and I for dinner. We finally found parking and walked up to the bouncer. Being from out of town, didnt know it was 21 and over and they weren't even serving dinner!! We had to find another restaurant. Looked like a fun place to party though!!
It was fine...not great. Service was super slow, but friendly when she came by. Food was pretty standard. I probably wouldn’t go back. Too many other choices in the area for a “meh” meal.
we went there before the ASU vs CU game, and the music was at an all time high, so the us as an over 50 group it was way too loud. you could not hear anything. it does seem like the place to be for the younger college to mid 30's group, but just not for us. needless to say we did not stay and eat and found a much quieter place down the street
