El Gaucho - Tacoma Ratings and Reviews
We had our 18th Anniversary dinner at El Gaucho on Friday night. We were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" multiple times by the staff. There was also a fun little surprise at our table when we were seated. I won't spoil it for anyone else who goes there for their anniversary for the first time.
My filet was amazing. I'm a huge fan of steak that practically melts in my mouth. My wife had the halibut special and she really enjoyed it. We shared a piece of key lime pie for dessert. It plenty big enough to share and we both really enjoyed it.
The piano music was loud, but not dance club loud. It contributed to everyone talking under the music instead of over it and each other. We could have a quiet conversation without having to listen to the people at the table next to us. The restaurant had just put up their Christmas decorations and that added to the festive atmosphere.
This was our first time at El Gaucho, but we will return. We are Central Pierce County residents and it is great to know that we can go out to a dinner this good without having to drive to Seattle or Bellevue.

Most of the food was good, but nothing was great and one steak was bad and should have been sent back (embarrassment kept that from happening). Everything was ridiculously overpriced. The place was far noisier than I remember it being. The entry area at the top of the stairs was dirty, with scraps of paper on the floor.
Gaucho is like the old school steak places in New York, but with a little-nuance to the service. The tableside cooking is lots of fun. We had the Flaming Sword Brochette of Tenderloin. Next time we will also do the Ceasar Salad (prepared tableside). Food is excellent. Attentive wait staff. Killer martinis. Impressive wine list. And the live piano helped us feel like we were back home.
Was disappointed at the service the night. Everyone was there either before or after the Garth Brooks concert so no surprise that it would be busy. Service was slow, food came out cold (was replaced immediately once server came by), but overall felt was understaffed for the price of the meal and I have had better times there in the past and didnt mind paying the price of the meal.
I was looking for a special place to eat dinner with my husband and a good friend (whom we were treating to dinner and the Garth Brooks concert). Made a reservation at El Gaucho based on reviews and it did not disappoint! Dinner was fabulous and the service was wonderful - friendly and unpretentious. We made reservations for 4:30, but arrived early and were seated at 4:00. The timing was perfect - we were seated a half hour before the pre-concert dinner rush which started at 4:30 or so, and we and were able to have a leisurely and enjoyable dinner and then walk to the concert in plenty of time for the 7:30 start.
We went to celebrate my husbands birthday during restaurant week. The food, service and atmosphere were just right! I wondered if it would be a different experience b/c we went for a value priced meal but we were treated very, very well. We will definitely go back.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner and our server was very attentive. Our table was the first booth on the north side of the building and we thought the can light over the table was a bit on the bright side. Not a biggie but it definitely changed the ambience of our particular location.
