I went here for my birthday. Getting the meal was a bit slower than usual. The staff seemed rushed. It is still my go to place for special occasions.

Had the NW grass-fed filet and wow! My mouth is still watering. Cooked perfectly and the sauce (mushrooms/bordelaise) was amazing. Service/food/drinks were exceptional. Atmosphere is always fun. Price is expected for the experience.

My wife and I celebrate our anniversary here every year. We stayed at the hotel on our honeymoon and have become El Gaucho loyalists every year since. It's a magical place where time seems to stand still and you can feel a world away from the everyday stresses. I would eat here weekly if my budget allowed it.

El Gaucho was very solidly in line with what you'd expect for an expensive steakhouse. Darkly lit, a good selection of cocktails and wines, traditional steaks, sides, and desserts. Service was good if a little off in spots (what's up with the giant plate of fruit at the end of the meal? are they trying not to sell you dessert?). In a city with a number of great restaurants trying new and exciting things, El Gaucho feels a little too tired for the price. But if a classic steakhouse experience is what you're looking for, it's a fine choice.

Atmosphere and food were exceptional. Service was top notch. You pay for all of that overhead, however as it is not a cheap place to eat. Dinner for two with 2 drinks each, appetizer, table side salad, entree, and desert cost close to $350. This includes the automatically added 20% service charge.

We went for my Wife's birthday as a special event. Seating was great, plenty of room at the table, great view of the room to watch what was going on. Food was excellent with a great presentation and the staff was right on top of things.

This review may be biased due to the fact that it was restaurant week, and perhaps the restaurant was busier than usual. My date and I both had the three course meal. The green salad was a healthy portion and my soup was tasty. The entrees were on the small side, but met our standards. There was a mix up on our order but it was quickly rectified. Service was fast(maybe too fast, as the courses came out very quickly and I felt a bit rushed) and attentive. The negative: The bread pudding was the worst bread pudding that I have ever had. It was as hard as rock(over exaggeration but a close call). They did offer another dessert, but the sorbet was overly sweet. We had early reservations, and the noise level increased as more people came in to dine. We basically stopped talking because it was too difficult to hear each other. At the end of the meal, a 20% automatic service charge was added to our bill, but in addition, on the check, was a line for "additional tip" which "would go entirely to the server". That makes for a very pricey meal. I personally thought that was not a very classy touch. No thanks, there are so many other choices for other wonderful restaurants in Seattle.

We came here to enjoy Restaurant Week and weren't disappointed. I usually expect a little less than perfect service for Restaurant Week due to the lowered cost of food and increased number of visitors (on a side note, we offset this by over-tipping during this time - reduced food cost shouldn't mean a reduced tip for the same amount of work). But! The service we had was exceptional! We bought tartare from the full menu and since it's made tableside I had to VERY quickly stop her when she said she was going to add anchovies since I'm genuinely allergic. She wasn't phased by it at all (sometimes I get grumbles) and then when I asked about the Worcestershire sauce she was just as upbeat and helpful letting me know it was anchovy-free.

Our food was great, although quite salty. The drinks were great and I was really pleased to see well-priced wine available for the Restaurant Week menu. Overall, a great experience ESPECIALLY for Restaurant Week. Aside from being a little loud with a live jazz performance, it was a great place for a date and we will return.

While the food is superior, the service seemed to be lacking. We were 10. Minutes late due to traffic , we were seated and no one came to get us drinks. The server finally came over to tell us he had to make a salad at the table next to us and he would be with us shortly. W have been to dinner many times here and the service was not what we have come to expect. That being said, the food was superior !

My boyfriend and I recently celebrated our anniversary at El Gaucho, and all around it was absolutely wonderful - we've already recommended it to several friends. We had reservations for dinner, were running a little late, called ahead to let them know and they were very accommodating. They have free valet complimentary for restaurant diners, which we didn't know. It was posted on their valet sign, but not on their website or anywhere else I was able to find at least, so I can't really be upset about that - I should've looked at the board! The hostess who greeted us was very professional, and the other one who led us to our seat was very sweet and conversational! One of the best touches by far was the anniversary card and rose petals they had scattered on the table for our anniversary (when we made reservations, they had asked if it was a special occasion or anything like that), and a couple waiters told us happy anniversary though out the night.

Our waiter was very knowledgeable and professional, as well as the other waiters who ran our food out to us. One waiter was especially helpful, my boyfriend had ordered escargot for the first time and no clue how he was supposed to eat it, and the food runner explained a couple different ways and made some light conversation. The dim lighting was very romantic, and although it was super spendy (we got out relatively cheap, spending only about $150 for two starters, drinks, and entrees - to be expected for fine dining!). Although we didn't order anything table side, next time we absolutely will!

We attended for Seattle restaurant week. Both of us had the mushroom truffle soup and the filet minion. Each were incredibly flavorful and I highly recommend. My girlfriend had the bread pudding for dessert and I have the seasonal sorbet. As we both really liked the two desserts, the bread pudding was definitely better.

Per usual, the service was amazing from the minute we walked in. They took our coats to hang right when we entered. I took a nice bottle of wine with us and they instantly walked up and asked if I would like it decanted. Five stars all around for food and service

What a wonderful dining experience. The truffle mushroom soup was fantastic. The filet was cooked perfectly. For desert, I highly recommend the banana cooked in liquor with vanilla ice cream. We went to El Gaucho for my birthday and for their restaurant week menu. I’ve heard so many good things about this place that we decided to check it out.
We were nicely greeted by the valet out front who took care of our car really quick. The whole staff was so friendly and personable. They all had big smiles and were professional but also down to earth unlike some fine dining places that seem like everyone is a robot.
The food was impeccable!!! We had the truffle soup, filet mingion medallions, and bread pudding from the restaurant week menu. All the food came out in great timing where you weren’t antsy for the next course.
Also, the piano player really was the cherry on top for such a wonderful atmosphere. He played Bruno Mars and Michael Jackson songs. He also played “Happy Birthday” when my dessert came out.
This place was so amazing. We will for sure be back! We had such a relaxing dining experience.

El Gaucho is phenomenal. It was affordable for Restaurant week, but expect to drop a bit of money if you're coming at any other time. This is some of the best steak I have ever had, and I recommend asking the bartender for whiskey suggestions, as they have an excellent selection of small barrel rare whiskies and scotches.

Group of friends went to El Gaucho for Restaurant Week. Even though El Gaucho is one of the nicer restaurants in Seattle, they were welcoming to those of us who do not normally dine here. The Restaurant Week menu was phenomenal for the price, steak was perfectly cooked, service was phenomenal. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion or if you are looking for a very well-cooked steak and/or anyone looking for a great Seattle Restaurant Week experience!

We had heard a lot of rave reviews about this restaurant for steaks. My husband wasn't that impressed with the steak unfortunately. My pasta dish was good though.

Also, the required 20% gratuity was annoying since we didn't feel we had the best service with our waiter and making it mandatory was frustrating. We were not apart of the Seattle Restaurant week crowd so expected a little bit more friendliness.

They did make it special when they inquired if we were celebrating anything which was our wedding anniversary and wrote a nice card with rose petals on the table and providing a complimentary dessert.

The last time we were at El Gaucho, there were so many mistakes I can't name them all. We have loved this place over the years we just figured they had an off-night. So we decided to give it a second shot. Everything was perfect except for the food. And when you're paying $300 or $400 for two people, the food should be great. First of all, it's a steak place so the steaks should be really good. I had a ribeye that I had to saw through instead of cut. The bread was mediocre and cold. The "velvety" mashed potatoes were far from that and they were cold as well. The good news is that the service was outstanding and our waitress (Gina) did a fabulous job. In the restaurant business, service is the hard part and they nailed it. The kitchen failed for a second time and that's it for us. Not going back and I'm really sad to say that because it's a really cool place. There's nothing else like it in Seattle.
