El Gaucho - Seattle Ratings and Reviews
The inside of this restaurant is one large, high ceiling room with the kitchen off to one side. There are are two levels. We were seated at a two top on the upper level which afforded us a view of the entire restaurant. The table was a triangle shape which allowed both of us to look out over the restaurant. The cuisine is very old school steak house. Many dishes are prepared table side. My dining companion and I each had a different salad, both were quite good. We both had the 8 oz filet which was cooked perfectly. The restaurant uses Neiman Ranch beef and the quality was excellent. After dinner the waiter brought us a bowl of fruit, nuts and cheese which was a nice touch. The wine list is extensive and expensive. A jazz singer and pianist and bass started performing around 8 pm. The music was not too loud and the singer was quite good. It added to the supper club vibe. If you are looking for a very different Seattle dining experience I recommend El Gaucho.
I've been coming to El Gaucho for years--40 years to be exact and the last few times I've noticed the prices keep going up and the quality of food goes down or is mediocre. I think they are trading on their past glory. It just isn't what it used to be. There are a lot of better value for money steak houses now in Seattle and it isn't worth the traffic hassle and parking anymore. El Gaucho needs to up their game.
Recenly took my daughter out for a father daughter date. I had only been to El Gaucho's one one other occasions some 15 years ago, so I was very pleased to see the qualities I remembered were still practiced. My daughter and I were very pleased with the entire evening. The staff is very courteous greeting with smiles and aways looking to be of service. The food was excellent and are server helpful and friendly. My daughter was very pleased and impressed with the ambiance and experience overall, which of course was the goal of the night. I would like to thank the staff of El Gaucho's for giving my daughter a first class dining experience on are date night.
Service was great. Food was fabulous. We felt like we were back in time as far as ambious. Piano player playing music from the 40s and 50s.
Waiter was very helpful suggesting dishes. Halibut was best ever!
Slightly expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
This is the classiest restaurant in Seattle. I would and have recommended it to everyone I know. I am a Reveler Club member & for my birthday/anniversary, they treated us like royalty. Gift Certificate, free dessert, free fruit, nut, & cheese platter impeccable service, made us feel like we were the most important people in the house. Best table too,m with rose petals & a hand written card. I will ALWAYS be going back. And their happy hour is fabulous when you just want something a little more casual, but still elegant. A little more affordable for us working class folks with champagne tastes! But the regular dining experience should NOT be missed. And if you can afford it, go as often as you can! Cannot say enough good things about them..
The ambiance and wait staff were great. The host/hostess team were not as friendly or prompt in greeting us as they could have been. The worst part about the evening was that I was there with my boyfriend who had never been there and I had bragged to him about the steak and how great it was. We split appetizers and sides and they were all really good. The problem came when we got our steak - it was completely dry and tough. I really couldn't believe it. We tried to eat it but had to send it back. I tried to show the waiter how awful it was but he didn't seem interested in seeing. We decided on a different steak, but honestly we shouldn't have had to. Then, to our chagrin we were charged for the replacement steak - which, it turned out was much more expensive. Overall we were not impressed at all. We made the best of it, but I really don't know if we will be returning.
We have been coming to El Gaucho since 1994. The atmosphere gives the illusion of an early century upscale speakeasy. Our favorites include the Wicked Shrimp, escargot, table side Caesar, Chataeubriand for two, scalloped potatoes and no dinner here is complete without Bananas Foster or Cherries Jubilee conveniently prepared table side.
Had a fabulous dinner at El Gaucho with excellent service from start to finish. They made accommodations where we needed (no egg in the Caesar) and helped us select a nice bottle of French wine. They were gracious about helping us celebrate our anniversary with words, gestures (rose petals on the table) and gifts (free dessert!). I am looking forward to returning soon with my Mom who will appreciate El Gaucho's focus on quality service and food.
From the moment my party walked into El Gaucho Seattle, we were welcomed and greeted kindly and professionally.
The gentleman who assisted our party, Chris was very energetic, , sincere and very knowledgeable about the beverage selections as well as the food menu offerings.
Mackenzie Parks, lead Sommelier, was very helpful throughout our dinning experience. She was spot on when choosing our bubbles to compliment the oysters we had for an appetizer. As well as pairing our wine perfectly to compliment and harmonize the wine and food experience.
Our party included a gentlemen traveling in from the UK and had been throughout the US over a 5 week period. He stated, 'That I have had some good meals across the US, but by far this was the best dinning experience he had enjoyed".
Bravo El Gaucho Seattle! Thank you.
This is the first time I go in a larger party (ok, 5); I had been before only for special occasions with my SO. I am happy to say everything was equally amazing, and actually I got to eat a lot more selection because it makes more sense to order more side dishes. All plates arrived on time and at the correct temperature, and they were very accommodating to different tastes in the table-side service. James (the sommelier) recommended an exceptional bottle, and we all had a good time. The final price per person was definitely not cheap, but I've paid more for worse service/food, and it is actually lower than going as a couple :).
This was our second visit in three years and the absolute perfect place to take our 21 and 18 year old sons. If you're looking for the best of US grade beef, great side dishes, amazing and affordable wine, and servers that know what they're talking about then this is a great place to go. We visit Seattle from Central British Columbia once a year to take in a baseball game. Dining is always top of our list. We have experimented and unfortunately haven't experienced the quality of El Gaucho at other recommended steakhouses. In Seattle, you get our vote.
Excellent dinner, excellent service in a great setting. We really felt we went back in time, a dark, minimally lit restaurant. Upon check in, they took and checked our coats, sat us and from the minute we arrived you knew you were going to have a fantastic evening. Service was outstanding, food was delicious and if that is not enough, a piano bar with a singer to set the perfect tempo and mood for a fantastic evening. They offer valet parking and everyone from valet to host has been well trained to provide outstanding service. I first described as a swanky steakhouse but it's more classy, upscale throwback with an experience you will not find anymore. Perfect evening for 40-65 something adults. Expect to spend an average of $125 per person inclusive of tip and definitely worth it. Not someplace you would or should take kids.
I had only been to El Gaucho for lunch and for business dinners so this was my first time with my wife and we were both delighted with every part of the experience. The 4 course dinner included the 2 entrees we would have ordered a la carte so we were able to enjoy and share plenty of great food while also being served by an attentive waiter who hand-prepared our Caesar salad and made sure we had a special Anniversary dinner (even though we didn't tell him that it was our anniversary so this seemed part of the normal experience).
Decent meal, nothing to write home about. It felt that the only concern was rotating tables and serving as many customers as possible. The whole experience was rushed.
For the price, the quality of the food wasn't the best. It doesn't have the feel of a high end restaurant, but more so a glorified chain steakhouse.
Great wine selection, and we loved the creme brûlée.
Took my boyfriend (who has never been) for his birthday and he loved it. He's got a high bar for restaurants so it says a lot. This spot is great for celebrating something special but also a great place for happy hour with friends. It's right above the cute little 21+ Movie theater so be sure to check that out after.
Wonderful food and superb service is what we have come to expect at the El Gaucho restaurants and we were not disappointed . It was good to see Chris ,our waiter, again. He made our evening special. The 410 salad there is the best salad I have eaten. I think Chris could make it blind folded.
On the sad/negative side: why do patrons of such a fine establishments in the Northwest fail to understand anything about dress codes? Does" business causal" really mean a red t-shirt and jeans? Men do not even bother to tuck their shirts in anymore . Who raised these people? Perhaps a nudist colony cafeteria would a better fit for these yokels. Folks, its El Gaucho not El Slobbo !
We've been coming to El Gaucho for 20 years, and they get it right EVERY TIME. The service, food and overall experience consistently exceed our expectations. The little touches make a big difference: offering a black napkin that won't shed on dark slacks; escorting ladies down the stairs to the restroom; flashlights at every table; rose petals scattered on the table for a special occasion; warm cookies provided by the valet as we were leaving. This is a place we go to feel special, and it never disappoints.
If you were around Seattle in the 70's to the Early 80's you would have heard of El Gaucho. While this El Gaucho is different that the original, it holds onto what made the original so great. The staff are excellent and attentive to every detail. The food is wonderful, the wine list is among the best in Seattle. I highly recommend to anyone in Seattle that wants a Romantic Dinner.
this was my first time to El Gaucho. Brought a friend who'd never heard of it. We were there on an Amazon Local coupon. We had valet parking included (nice!) and were treated well from the minute we walked in. All the servers and waitstaff very cordial and friendly. Bartender made us a couple of good drinks before we got seated for dinner. It is a bit dark in there, but that does help make you feel relaxed after a long day at the office. Our waiter, Greg, was super. Treated us great. The food choices on the prix fixe menu were very good and we definitely have no complaints. As our waiter said, "you won't go hungry". Ample portions of all food and drink - appetizers, salads, main course and dessert for two. We had the crab cakes, a wedge and Caesar salad (impressively made table-side), fillet mignon medallions with lobster and bernaise sauce (perfectly cooked) and bananas foster for dessert. We had drinks with each course and a delightful cheese, nut and fruit plate. Believe me, more than enough food. A really lovely evening. I even got escorted to the ladies room by a waiter carrying plates of food! Very charming! Thanks for a great night of dining!
Love this place. Always have since I went to their Portland Restaurant oh so many years ago. Service was a bit slow/off this time around as it was slow. 10min to get the only cocktail ordered after it was ordered on a slow night. But the food didn't disappoint nor did their table side presentation. Also took 15-20 min to get bread out. But the rest of dinner service went great!
I took my friend for his 45th birthday. He had never been there before. He is from the UK and has been in Seattle over a year.He has been to many nice restaurants in Seattle including Canlis. He said El Gaucho was his favorite great food, wine and romantic atmosphere.
I have been to El Gaucho many times over the years even the old one.It never disappoints always the best.We both had the scallop and prawn linguini so delicious. Also had the scalloped potatoes so good. Also the chocolate ganache for desert which is to die for.It is the best restaurant in town for the total experience.
Whether you're in a suit impressing clients, celebrating an anniversary, or you earned yourself a steak after a successful work week this is the place. Dark enough to walk in wearing jeans and a t-shirt, but very fitting to wear a suit.
Haven't had a better steak downtown or Bellevue better then this specific location!
This is my 1st dinning experience at El Gaucho, Seattle. I have been visiting Seattle one or two times per year for business over the last 35 years. My favorite steakhouse has always been the Metropolitan Grill......not anymore. El Gaucho has elevated the game for me, the cigar lounge
