We went to celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary. When we were shown our table there were red rose petals on the table and a hand written card to us wishing a happy anniversary. Our server was amazing, not only knew the menu and could answer our questions with no problem, she was incredibly friendly.

As always the service and food was exceptional. Had the filet wife had halibut.

Exceptional dining experience as always, not cheap but hey, only live once. We were unaccustomed to the automatic 20% gratuity but once it was explained, all good. My wife enjoys lobster on her birthdays, she said this one was the best so far, Nova Scotia I believe. The rose petals on the table for her birthday was a welcome surprise. The flaming beef medallions were to die for. Valet parking was effortless.

Have been to El Gaucho many times in the past but not recently. Steak was not good quality and way overpriced for what had traditionally been a sure thing.

I would pass on recommending to others.

The food was superb, the presentation perfect. I found the wait staff impersonal, stiff. I notified restaurant in advance that two birthdays were being celebrated. Not even cupcakes with candles were given for the celebrants.

The food was amazing. The sides were rich but not greasy, the meat was tender and perfectly cooked. We were there celebrating our wedding anniversary and the staff was great in helping us celebrate with a kind card and rose petals on the table.

Food and wine is very good, especially the brussel sprouts. I ordered the ribeye which was cooked perfectly but didn't wow me with flavor. If you're looking for a good steak, this is a great option. If you're looking for a contender for best steak of your life - keep on looking.

El Gaucho has always had top notch service and food. My recent visit was no different. Immediately from being greeted by the hostess, they knocked it out of the park. There was the personal touch of a flower and card to mark my special occasion, the excellent wait service, and the delicious food as well.

I highly recommend El Gaucho for any special occasion or just a dinner to make you feel special.

Perfect 5 star food that was prepared perfectly. Excellent service that treats you like an elite. Tableside salads and main courses with sharable sides. A great experience that is worth the price.

I Very much enjoyed eating here 15 years ago and loved it. So I eagerly returned recently and it is every bit as good as before. Great acoustic guitar duo with excellent music selection, especially their expertise on Brazilian and Latin music ,
really sets a nice vibe for the evening and was attuned in volume so as to be appreciated without being too loud or to subdued. Indeed the overall sound level was also consciously calibrated to feel abuzz without being overly loud.

Haveing travelled extensively in Argentina in the course of over a dozen visits there since visiting this restaurant I have to say that it very much evokes the ethos of some of the best tier of that countries established spots.

There is an inherent flair and dash about the place, a sense of pride coupled with fun, in a genuine friendly sophisticated manner that is just charming and a pleasure to experience.

“ ambience “ ) is elegantly relaxed. Will return whenever I am back in Portland , hopefully soon

From you walk in the door till you leave you feel well taken care of in a genuinely friendly way and also i was also impressed by the 20 percent included gratuity and the brief but helpful menu explanation about how the management treats their staff with a decent salery with health coverage and encouragement for continuing education etc.
Bravo and well done on that front too !

10 Year Anniversary .. everybody was really great and food was excellent

We went to dinner to celebrate Valentine’s Day. (A couple of weeks late).

As always every thing was perfect. Our server, Meg, was wonderful. Great service, great food, and a delightful selection of wines.

I read some reviews on Trip Advisor - there were quite a few complaints about the added service charge. When we take the time to treat ourselves to a fine restaurant we never tip less than 20%, so it made no difference to us.

The live music is lovely.

We will return to enjoy a romantic evening or to have a fun time with friends and family.

We had crab bisque, El Gaucho salad, steaks, crab leg, and sides.

We finished with a 1937 Port. Wonderful.

My husband and I love this place. It’s a great atmosphere to celebrate something special! We’ve brought our friends and family here time and time again. The rib steak was incredible and I love their cocktails. The Blizzard was delicious. It’s worth every penny!

Gauchos is my most favorite place to go for a guaranteed special night out! I have never been disappointed. The wait staff are sooo attentive. I love the regular musicians, Mariano and Toshi, who can melt you with their music! The food is always perfectly prepared and served. For a special night, I come here with friend(s) and just sit and talk for hours and enjoy the ambiance.

My experience going 3 times now on special occasions have only been great! Every time I go with my wife or others the food is amazing. The service is great and the atmosphere is perfect. Thank you for everything you guys do.

King crab legs were perfect...steak sampler was on point...literally butter-tender. Service was amazing.

El Gaucho was excellent. Our waiter provided excellent service and it was nice having a live band at dinner. The wife and I will definitely be going back again.

My favorite place to celebrate my birthday

The food and service was very good, but it was expensive. A 20% tip was automatically added on to our bill for our party of four. Our bill came to over $450 for our party with one drink each. Nice experience, but probably will not return anytime soon.

It is always a good experience at El Gaucho. Been here a few times and the crab bisque is a MUST along with the frenched rib chop (med rate of course) and banana’s fosters to finish it off. It is all about presentation and ElGaucho follows through every time. Definitely, love the table side bananas fosters prep and it adds to the enjoyment of the dessert.
Good for any special occasion or date night.

We were in Portland for my boyfriends birthday. We chose to have his bday dinner here. It turned out to be amazing. What a great night. We had a great server and then at the end of the night they moved us in to the cigar lounge where Nick hooked us up and we enjoyed some delicious after dinner cigars. What an amazing perfect night.

Always a great place to dine for a special occasion.

My $75 ribeye was disappointing. It had quite a bit of tough grisl in it. I questioned the waiter and he said it was to be expected “connective tissue”. I have had a lot of rib eyes and they are usually always very tender.
Also we had a $50 gift card that was rejected due to it being “out of date”. Too bad the customer had to absorbe the value of the card.

had a small piece of steak for 77 dollars and it taste so saltyyyy. I make better steak at home with rib eyes

The food was good, but it took over an hr to get to us, but I was disappointed that I made reservations over a month ago and we stuck in the back booth of the bar area. We couldn’t have much of a conversation because it was super loud.

Best Steak and seafood in the Portland area and the service is GREAT!

We had the Chateaubriand for two . . . very tasty . Meat cooked perfectly and asparagus as well. Live guitar music a nice bonus. After dinner cigar bar was nice too. Wish it would have cost about half what it did, but El Gaucho has now been checked off the bucket list.

Celebrated our anniversary here and had a wonderful experience. The staff and location were both amazing, and the food was beyond delicious. They even decorated the table for our anniversary! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to celebrate and enjoy delicious food. Side note, there were players from the Utah Jazz dining which added a fun celebrity moment.

The waiter was a veteran and was absolutely management material. The salad he prepared table side was amazing as well as his loaded potato prep work and not to mention the sauces he made for our stakes. Will be returning.

As always the food and service was outstanding , our server Gabriel did a wonderful job.

We went to El Gaucho for an anniversary meal. We were seated promptly and the wait staff were attentive to our needs. The table side caesar was quite good. We each had a filet; unfortunately, mine was a bit undercooked (ordered medium rare - but still raw in the middle). Our wait person promptly took care of it, and the next steak was cooked perfectly. Other than the filet issue, the rest of the evening was very nice. The musicians created a nice ambiance but were not too loud. El Gaucho now includes a 20% service charge in lieu of tips, although additional tipping is accepted.
