Had a wonderful 70th birthday at your Bellevue restaurant. Manny was a lovely server at table 97.
Only disappointment was that although everyone knew that we were there for my milestone event, you’d think that there’d be a courtesy to offer a slice of cake with a candle or even some chocolates. Some offering to acknowledge this day.
Especially since we’ve been good customers with El Gaucho for at least a decade.

Any thoughts? Was this just something that was overlooked by Manny or is it your policy to not offer these courtesies?
If not, I’d suggest your restaurants go the extra mile for patrons, especially since they have chosen to celebrate their special events in your place.

We had the best server that made our evening top notch... his name was Manny. If you want excellent service and a very fun, professional and personable server, request Manny. Also request a booth. That is the best seating. Excellent food, service and atmosphere all around.

Went to El Gaucho for an anniversary dinner and it was fantastic as always. The Bellevue location is beautiful, especially around the holidays, but it can be very loud.

El Gaucho - Overcharge, under-deliver.

We arrived on time - they had no record of our reservation through Open Table and we were asked if we'd like to make another. A manager came out and "found" our reservation - we were seated about 5 minutes later.

Appetizer was new to the menu- cheese souffle - very good. Wine was overpriced and we didn't get an accurate description for the Rose - very dry and was described as being a balanced and fruity.

We ordered Risotto and the bone-in New York medium rare. I understand risotto takes a bit of time - but we waited 40 minutes after our souffle was taken away before the entrees were served.

The Risotto was under-cooked and dry - crunchy in the middle. Just awful. This is a $36 dish - absolutely shameful.

The steak was overcooked. Medium well - tough, but the flavor was good - they have their aging process down but not much else. This was a $72 dollar entree - again... shameful.

We didn't give the opportunity for them to make it right - we had been sitting for over an hour at this point and didn't want to wait for a mulligan. I struggled though cutting my steak and my wife picked all of the veggies out of the risotto.

The only redemption were the side dishes - broccoli and scalloped potatoes. Great sizes, excellent flavors. This is the only reason the food quality didn't get 1 star.

The only great service that this restaurant offers is it's valet. Otherwise, don't bother.

Food was good service was good. However, at the end, I noticed El Gaucho start adding 20% service charge and adding tax to 20% service charge. I have no issue giving 20% service charge which is expected for high restaurant like El Gaucho. The ISSUE is that 20% is added before tax and telling me the company doing it. 20% service charge should be added after the tax. I noticed that restaurants start doing this and this is NOT right. The customer should NOT be paying tax for service charge. I see that restaurants start slipping this in and this is taking advantage of customers. The manger told me that there is nothing he can do and asked me to write to their CEO. Really? People should not be paying tax for service charge.

Celebrated our 35 year anniversary. They had rose petals and a nice card waiting at our table which was a nice touch. We had scallops, oysters, steaks, scalloped potatoes, and desserts and it was all outstanding. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Dinner was at a nice pace to enjoy the special night out.

The service is professional and great. The food, as well. Though it's nice that there is a piano player, it's too loud to sit within twenty feet and I would not do so, again.

Unfortunately this was not as good of an experience as I had hoped for.

I took my wife out for her birthday and had a very nice evening with her. The restaurant is very clean, staff is quite good and eager to help which is great. The ambiance is very nice as it is a dimly lit dining area with high ceilings and a pianist playing softly in the background.

We started with a few drinks and Tuna tartare. The tartare was quite good as well as the cocktails. For entrees I had the Seabass and my wife had the peppercorn New York. My entree had to be returned as it was only luke warm on the exterior and cold on the interior. It was sent back and heated up. It returned much better and was quite delicious.

My wife’s steak really left something to be desired. For a cut of meat to cost as much as it does there, we both were disappointed in its flavor and overall tenderness. The peppercorn sauce was a bit over powering and the steak just didnt seem to be a very good cut for a Prime New York. Just kind of like ehh!

The two sides we shared were the corn and the mushroom risotto. The risotto was quite good but the corn was not as good as I remembered having previously.

As it was my wife’s birthday, we were given our choice of dessert for the occasion on the house. My wife had the chocolate ganache and I had the Bourbon cake. Both were good but the bourbon cake was delightful. Not to rich of sauce and super fluffy cake with vanilla ice cream. It was really good.

The ganache was good too. A little bit more dense and rich which is not my kind of dessert but it was good.

Overall we had a very nice evening and the food was mostly good. The service is very good and the restaurant is very clean and nice. I am just not sure the quality of the food justifies the very high prices.

We were really looking forward to this date night. We had heard so much about El Gaucho. We were both quite disappointed in everything except the ambiance. I would not go again. I left feeling so sad about our huge bill and dissatisfuing service and food. No one even asked us while there how things were. Huge disappointment.

We were seated next to the bar where the patrons were loud, obnoxious, and swearing. There was also a small child near by with a ear splitting voice. It was meant to be a special evening for us and it wasn't.

This was a dinner meeting of the leadership team of a health care company, and was an excellent venue for that. Quite and calm enough for thoughtful conversation, but not moribund. Unrushed, not too dimly lit for three Alpha males to meet. I don't drink, but my two colleagues who do seemed happy with the options. I had the baseball-cut steak which I also had previously at the Seattle Gaucho. It was excellently prepared and tasty, and there seems to be consistency in prep from date to date and location to location. The only complaint, and its minor, was that this location was very difficult to find and I ended up feeling like we were driving on pedestrian pathways to find the door which is tucked back deep inside a retail and condo area. Overall great experience, even though missing the Seahawk's game to be here.

Our server on this occasion merits special mention. She was extremely will informed about both the alcohol and food menus, understood and conveyed how various dishes were prepared, and was authentic, personable and engaging without seeming like it was about upselling. She also handled the rather boorish behavior of one of our party with confidence, good humor and aplomb, managing what could have been an unpleasant situation while keeping it light and pleasant. I don't remember her name, but good for her!

Feel free to relay the above comment to the server, but don't publish it anywhere for obvious reasons. Your welcome to use the rest of the review as you see fit.

Have been to El Gaucho several times but this outing for a birthday celebration was truly sub par at best, especially for the price. Everything tasted like goat cheese for some odd reason. Bread was good in theory but over-powered by goat cheese taste. Caesar salad made table side was on par with a bagged salad from QFC with the added tang of goat cheese. Grass fed filet mignon was tough and chewy and medium rare was more like rare with a slight browning on each side. Served with "roasted carrots" that were essentially raw but slightly warm. Got the corn as a side and that was delicious. Dessert was also great, table side cherries jubilee. Service was impeccable. Overall though the food just wasn't great and we were pretty disappointed.

The service was great (from the time you enter the restaurant) and the ambiance was outstanding. What a beautiful venue! The food, however, was poorly prepared and presented. Our steak tartare reminded me of roadkill, my filet minion was cooked well enough, but tasted freezer-burned, the presentation of my steak was non-existent (only a mushroom cap accompanied my steak), and, to top it off, both my wife and I were a bit nauseated when we got home. Luckily, our wait-person removed the steak tartare from my bill after I complained about how gross it was. And, no, this was not the first time I've eaten steak tartare. I've had the dish at both Canlis and Daniel's Broiler (multiple times). I knew the food was bad when my wife complained that she had better prime rib at the Keg and the Black Angus restaurants. If the food were as good as the service, I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Maybe they had an off night.

Beautiful place, in the middle of Bellevue downtown with views of the surrounding skycrapers. Nice live music by a piano player. Regrettably, I asked my sirloin medium and it came overcooked. After a short discussion where I needed to cut the meat by the middle to show, they brought me a new one, now medium-cooked. I also asked for some 90 bucks wines, but the sommelier did not show up, and passed his recommendations through the waitress, IMHO, for such price I would have expected a more close and effective customer service.

Visited here in 2012 had the best meal ever. Traveled the US in search of a better stake dinner. Have never found one that does it better. So made plans to revisit to insure it is still the best in the US. And wouldn’t you know 5 years latter it’s still number 1 on my list.

Love this place.

We have always had great experiences at El Gaucho, but this was the first time there's ever been an issue - a lot of big parties/kitchen in the weeds kept the waitstaff occupied and there was a pretty significant delay getting our entrees to the table. Our waiter was very apologetic and took the price of the appetizers off the bill - worked hard to make it right. In all other respects, our experience was great - even rose petals on the table for our anniversary. We really like the restaurant and know that this was just a hiccup in what is normally excellent service.

One of the first groups in the restaurant and got stuck right next to a huge pole.
Servers forgot our side dish we ordered.
Ordered steak medium well, but the outside was 1/8" thick of burnt char. So tough I could barely cut it.
Basically one third of my steak was fat and gristle.
Waiter never asked how our dinner was or I would have told him.
Won't be back.

We loved the live piano playing during our meal - the tunes were an eclectic mix and beautifully done. I know it's not food-related but it was my favorite part of our visit!

The food was good. I had a Dungeness crab cocktail - yum! Our steaks, shared scalloped potatoes, and wine were wonderful, as was the service. Even though we were full and passed on dessert, we were offered a lovely fruit and cheese platter after our meal. The bleu cheese was fabulous and I only wish I could have eaten more!

The noise level was a bit high for a romantic meal like ours but the rest of the ambiance was lovely with a soft, warm golden glow permeating the restaurant.

I came here for Seattle Restaurant Week: 3 course dinner for $33. My spouse and I were excited to try this restaurant for such a great deal. However our waiter advised us that the Bellevue location was not part of Seattle Restaurant week? Nowhere was this specified online which was a major disappointment. Prices are unrealistic. We walked out of there spending $200 including a nice tip for a two person meal... the food was amazing but not $200 amazing.. that’s a car payment..
The restaurant was breathtaking from the waiters in tuxedos to the the piano music. The free bread and fruit with nuts and cheese was a nice perk, but didn’t make up for the prices. My meal was delicious, however I kept finding small pieces of shrimp shells in my noodle dish.
