El Gaucho - Bellevue Ratings and Reviews
I don't get the positive reviews. Dined there with a date thinking it would be similar to Seattle. Not so.
This is in an office building clearly not meant for a restaurant, or at least not properly converted. It's a huge, open, cavernous space-more like eating at seatac. Not intimate at all. We commented how cold it was and were told the building owners turn off the heat "when all the microsoft people go home". Well that's nice. My filet was good, but my dates brochettes were awful. Tough and over cooked. The mashed potatoes were overlooked and flavorless. Overall the experience is well below what it should be especially considering the pricing. Won't eat here again, Daniels is far better.
I recommend for a romantic dinner or special occasions. We celebrated our anniversary and had a memorable experience. The food, wine and dessert were all delicious. The staff was very attentive and made us feel like we were the most important guests in the restaurant. The quality of the food, the attention to detail and responsiveness of the staff, and the romantic, quiet, intimate atmosphere made for a truly enjoyable experience.
We were really looking forward to a birthday dinner and decided to try el gaucho. Right off the bat our experience was disappointing. We arrived for a 8 PM reservation and were left standing at the door for nearly 15 min. There were numerous empty tables so no reason we should have had to wait for a table. Once we were seated we waited another 10 min for our server to arrive. We ordered the Caesar salad which is made table side for two ( you cannot order single serving) unfortunately she put so much garlic and horseradish in it that it was inedible. The entree of filet medallions was over cooked ( well done instead of medium rare) and for 62.00 I would have expected a bigger medallion. The server did offer to refund the cost of my entree but not the salad. I didn't try the desert because at that point I just wanted to leave. Our water glasses were never refilled. Our server never checked on us once our food was served so there was not even an opportunity for us to send my entree back . I had to tell the busboy that my entree was over cooked. He informed our server. total bill was a little over 200.00 and for that I would have expected more than the one star level of service we received and far better food. We won't be back.
Every year when we ask the staff where they'd like to go for their holiday dinner, El Gaucho is always the unanimous choice. We had another great time in the lovely dining room and the food particularly this year, was delish!
Service is perfect, not over the top, and all the dishes arrived perfectly plated and hot. We had a very happy crew at the conclusion of our holiday cheer!
They are still the best. Fabulous Caesar salad prepared at tableside by Manny. Steaks done to perfection and full of great flavor. The staff was always attentive to our needs, but never intrusive. Friendly, too! This is not a cheap place for a quick dinner. This is a destination dining event and worth the price
Went tonight for my birthday dinner. The place was packed tonight. Every table was full with holiday dinners and they seemed overwhelmed. The server was very nice but he had way too many tables to take care of and we ended up waiting for pretty much every step of the meal. The table next to us was in and out so it was just our server that had too many tables. I spoke to the manager and he was also very nice, and comped out corkage fee. But then we waited forever for the server to pick up our check.
We go to El Gaucho often and I can easily say this was the worst evening I can remember. Usually we have a great evening and we leave feeling really special. Tonight we were disappointed.
Had crab cakes dish & scallop dish for appetizers and both were good but you can get this at other places also. Dinner: peppercorn steak- avg to good bc it wasn't as flavorful but I guess price was ok for it, 2 orders med rare filet mignon w/lobster medallion?- suprised that it was 1 very tiny piece of lobster, filet mignon was good but wasn't soft and melt in your mouth, overall not worth the price, seafood pasta- not worth it don't get it..yes I know it's a steaks house but still at least make the pasta unique, lobster bisque mashed potatoes - I think it's my fav sides/dish & recommended, mushroom side -waste of money nothing special. 2 orders Banana foster for desserts- highly recommended bc of the cooking show and it's pretty good & fun dessert, 1 order is good for 2 people I would say. 2 bottles of wine total bill $750. Overall, it was a nice experience but I wouldn't go there again bc the foods weren't as good as I anticipated especially for the price. If foods were great I wouldn't mind that price at all. It was too loud there but the lights and dinning room was nice, wouldn't go there for romantic.
From the moment we walked in everything about our experience at El Gaucho was superb. We have been talking about it for days. The food was beautifully prepared and presented. Our waiter was friendly and extremely attentive. We brought our own bottle of wine with some worry about whether it was included on their wine list, but the sommelier told us that they are not concerned with that detail even though other restaurants usually are. He too was very gregarious, outgoing and a pleasure to talk to. Overall this was an experience we will not soon forget.
A celebratory dinner with two long-time colleagues the other night prompted this review.
Our table was ready when we arrived, and we were seated near the center of the vaulted main dining room. The chairs were comfortable enough, but the décor suggested that more memorable seating might be found. Bri took great care of us, and her personable but professional style was just right for the occasion. We all had the wedge salad to start, served cold and crisp with plenty of good quality Roquefort in the dressing and crumbled on top. Would have liked the bacon to play a bigger role, because - you know, bacon. All followed that with the Steak El Gaucho, at three different temperatures. The beef was served as ordered, and was tender, flavorful and juicy. The lobster medallions were firm and fresh-tasting. On Bri's recommendation, we shared the brussels sprouts and roasted sweet corn, and the sprouts were a real stand-out. A fruit and cheese presentation at the end of the meal featured some fine local cheeses and went well with the last drops of Goldeneye pinot noir and generous pours of a well-aged tawny port. A great evening all around, and I will definitely be back.
I took a business colleague here for her birthday and despite living in Bellevue for many years, had never been. She thoroughly enjoyed her lamb chops and the Salad 410. They were very helpful with questions on gluten free options and, of course, kept providing the perfect martini. Always a good experience. I only wish June was playing the piano that night!
Went for our 1 year wedding anniversary they set up the table with rose petals and a card. Service was great and even though the initial steak was chewy and tough they did bring out a second quickly. The steaks we're good not great and playing was a little sloppy. I would say for a $100 meal it would be perfect you just expect a little more for $350. Cocktails were great and dessert was fantastic but the steak did leave much to desire. I went to el gaucho in Portland recently and it was perfect and Gordon Ramsey steak which was the same cost but much more attention to detail. Also since it is clearly a Microsoft restaurant we felt a little over dressed with the majority of clientele there.
We would have enjoyed our experience more had we not had to access the elevator (due to temporary mobility impairment) by walking past stored equipment. AND my view from our table, back toward the elevator, also was adversely impacted by stacks of equipment.
For such an upscale restaurant, these details should not have been overlooked.
I have previously other El Gauco's. This is our first time at the Bellevue location. We were very pleased with the service and the food was outstanding. We were not hurried at all. We could hear each other talk. I do not normally write reviews but felt that this time I need to write a good review.
Excellent fine dining experience in the heart of Bellevue. Food is abundant and of very high quality. Wine chosen was very smooth and tasty. Meats cooked very well and presentation of high quality.
Be prepared to spend but worth every single penny. Would highly recommend A++
Always a promised delicious meal and service. We thought we would get an early reservation and have a quick dinner to share our birthdays and get home. We did arrange a 6:15 reservation but the enjoyment of the evening, starting with live piano music and lovely attention to our occasion had us lingering and enjoying a wonderful evening. One of our favorite evenings and locations. Thanks staff
We booked a table to celebrate the occasion of out-of-town guests arriving, and were not disappointed. Every aspect of the experience was top-notch - we had an amazing meal, great service and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. One of the new places I can order a Sazerac and get a well-made one, not to mention a delicious steak cooked precisely to order
I experienced El Gaucho for the first time recently based on TRip Advisor recommendations. El Gaucho meets all the criteria for a high-end (big $) steakhouse. We enjoyed the food, service and winelist enough to spend nearly 4 hours. While a very large establishment, it seemed like it was just us and the El Gaucho staff due to the comfortable side booth and the staff providing a high level of service too little seen.
My husband and I love El Gaucho. It is classy, elegant and inviting. The food and the service are far above average. The music with dinner was great, and the ambiance is so elegant. I feel so very relaxed when I am there. And the food, well it is beyond excellent. I love going there and hopefully will be able to do so more often.
Went to El G last week for our wedding anniversary and had a great evening. I placed a note in my OT reservation indicating that we were celebrating and that I had ordered flowers. When we got there the table was set with the flowers, rose petals were spread across the table cloth and the staff had signed a card for us. Very nice touches! The service was excellent throughout the meal and the food was wonderful. I've never ordered the Chateaubriand before and after trying it I may never order anything else again. The meat was the only thing not well done that night (and by design).
Great atmosphere, wonderful, personalized service, good menu choices, great wine list, quality of food as expected, good music background, memorable occasion. Summer was very attentive and our captain is very knowledgeable and had extra good recommendations to round out our selections.
