El Farol Ratings and Reviews
El Farol has a great atmosphere. I like their tapas as I do not like to be overfed! My daughter and I shared 4 tapa plates--we could have done 5 I think but I am always happy leaving a restaurant without feeling stuffed. Lots of vegetarian choices. The food came fast.
We reserved a table for the Flamenco Dancing show. The food, service and entertainment were excellent. The tables are very close together, but we had friendly neighbors so we had an enjoyable evening. The dancers were very talented. This show was really well done!
We had Tapas this trip and the presentation was weak. The brussel sprouts were very small & small portion for the price. Almost appeared our serving was the bottom of the batch. Patatas Bravis portion small and not full of flavor as we experienced in other restaurants. The Calamari was good and so were the mussels, although there were several mussels that had not opened, which should never have been served, nor should someone pay for something you cannot eat. Felt underserved and over paid. Average.
El Farol has recently re-opened and perhaps they aren't at their best yet. We had tapas - the shrimp and lamb chops were good, but the rest of our tapas weren't. Instead of bringing things out as they were ready everything came at the same time and several things were cold.
Delicious food and cocktails. A bit crowded in the back where we were seated. In my opinion the waiter had a difficult time maneuvering around the tables. There was a large party and all the other tables were full. Despite the very limited space our waiter was excellent!!
Newly renovated and under new ownership, El Farol is better than ever. The food choices are creative and extremely tasty. Some portions small, but most are adequate or ample. The atmosphere is much brighter and has a totally different energy than the old El Farol. And the prices are very reasonable. Service was attentive with the only small downside being a server who seemed to be upselling a little too much. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
First thing to say is that the space is very loud. On our visit, there was a large table with one toddler that was acting up and parents who didn't remove him. But even after they left, the noise level made conversion difficult.
The food was OK, but the portions were small and the prices too high for the quality.
Service was good, but we couldn't hear our server.
I sample a few appetizers...the calamari, the aguacate, the pimientos and the ceviche.
The first three were good, but not great and the ceviche was really disappointing...almost no flavor at all.
I probably will go again, to sit on the porch, to take in the entertainment, but with so many dining options in Santa Fe, it'll be a while before we go for a sit-down dinner again
We had a delicious dinner with excellent service but the renovation has made for a very noisy and echo-y room. There was a large family beside us with a screeching baby which ruined our evening. The original restaurant was cozier and better designed to accomodate large noisy groups in one room and more intimate diners in the smaller rooms. Despite the excellent food and service, we will not be going back.
We had heard that the redo and food were great. Our group agreed that both were just ok. The front room lighting was too bright. We asked for another room where the music was not our cup of tea. The tapas were mixed - the lamb and salads were very good, the olives boring. Dessert was the highlight; both that we ordered were great. Entrees are priced too high to consider on a 1st outing and we decided not to return. Service very good.
We ate in the bar to be seated more quickly. Shared a table for 6 with another couple but still managed separate conversations. Lamb was great as well as eggplant dish, macaroni and cheese and the brussel sprouts. Can't go wrong with desserts. All good (this was our 2nd dinner within a week). Highly recommend and good value!
Wanted to see the old become new. They did a great remodel and the food wheather from the past El Farro or the new items were great. I recommend the Calamari and the Pasta Penne Verde! One of my favorite menu items. The flash fried avocado is also excellent. GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's worth every bite!
We went to the old El Farol many times in past decades. It was getting pretty funky, but now it is renovated and clean. The new owner Rich restored the space beautifully while retaining its unique, traditional aesthetics and crooked floor (part of the Santa Fe charm). The food was wonderful in the past, and it still is. And, it's a good value, especially for such a primo location!
El Farol is back! 4 of us had 8 tapas dishes and a roasted pear salad, and they were all wonderful. The remodel looks fantastic, and the new chef has the traditional favorites down pat. Great to have this classic Santa Fe restaurant back and putting out great food.
Worst treatment of a guest award! We arrived for a reservation at 6:45 and were told our table was outdoors (cold evening).Looking at the almost empty restaurant, I asked for a table indoors. I was given water and told someone would be with me shortly. The only person to arrive was a person who offered us bread. I asked for someone to take our drink order. Meanwhile the man who had seated us seated two other parties and took their orders rushing by us with face averted. A waiter took our drink order which was delivered in 15 minutes by someone from the bar. After a while we asked the bread person for a waiter to take our order. Eventually he did but after waiting a total of an hour and a half in a half empty restaurant where others who arrived later were finishing their meal we gave up. We walked to the front desk where no one was present and put down the cash to pay for our drinks. The only person around was a waiter in a half empty bar . We showed him the money and left . There was no sign of a manager and no sign of management. Don’t Go !
High priced but food was good. Very noisy. Service was good until the place got busy around 7:00 then service was very mediocre. Dangerous stage step in dining room that was not marked as a step or lit. One woman tripped and fell as she was going to sit at her table.
