El Cortez Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar
The food is amazing. The noise level in the restaurant is not good for a group conversation.
Awesome experience, super fun atmosphere and service, food and drink were great! Fun to go with friends or just as a couple. Best music too!
Great live music, amazing tacos!
The place is a cool concept, I went with the mussels they were full of sand. The fundido was amazing tho, prices are rather high for what you get. The live music was extremely loud couldn't hear anything. Ambience was quite nice after the live music stopped was still a good experience overall
Food was pretty bland , definitely had better Mexican food in the city. Prices seemed really high for drinks and how much you get on plate , $14 for small bowl of guacamole is a joke. Used to be better
Too loud for a larger group to hear each other and enjoy the tasty food and drink!
Food and drinks were amazing! Portions are fairly big and definitely leave you filled up.
The food seemed pretty hyped up, didn’t really get an authentic feel, the cocktails weren’t that pleasant at all, I could barely drink mine with all the salt. Just sort of overrated ?
El Cortez has a really unique vibe, always full of trendy people, funky drinks, and delicious food. The decor is awesome. Taco Tuesday is a great deal. It’s definitely loud in there. But fun :)
Lovely visit but loud music and not great for a family dinner. Service was great and the food even better. We will be back for sure
The vibe here is amazing. If you are looking for a quiet meal, this isn’t the place for you. But if you are looking for a fun night out with amazing food and a lively atmosphere, you will thoroughly enjoy El Cortez. We cannot wait to go back!
Great time was had by us two for my friends birthday!
We took our parents here for Father’s Day. Our reservation was at 6:30. The server took about 10 minutes to come over and greet us/take drink orders. We waited close to another 10 minutes and placed our order. After 20 mins, the server returned and told us they were out of the steak (which two of us had ordered) so we had to change our orders. By 7:45 we still had not received our food, so I asked the hostess to check on our order. The food came out immediately after she went to check. All of our food was either lukewarm or cold - we ordered pork carnitas tacos, shrimp tacos, chicken tacos, and two orders of the enchiladas. The melted cheese in the enchiladas had already hardened, the meat on the tacos was cold to the touch. The portion size of the three-tacos was exceptionally small. It took another 5-10 minutes for the server to return to check on us, and we explained our disappointment with the orders. She offered to get everything remade but after sitting in the restaurant for almost an hour and a half with no food, we were hungry and just wanted to eat and leave. The manager came over to apologize and ended up taking care of the cost of the meal. Definitely not expected, but was a very nice gesture. Overall the food flavour was good, the drinks were good, but really disappointed in the service and the quality. The music was also exceptionally loud for a Sunday evening, we had to shout across the table to have a conversation between the 5 of us.
We went for an early dinner at 5:15 pm for Fathers Day and to get to a concert so the location was great. However the music was so loud and vulgar it was awful. We had a 12 year old and 10 year old and the music that was playing was derogatory, full of swear words. We asked nicely to change the music or turn it down but we were met with snears and jabs of laughter by the bartenders. There were other patrons who were as well shocked by their choice of music and movies playing in the restaurant. We will not be returning. We were not mean to our server but felt wer were not in a place that cared we had kids or that it was impossible to them.
Awesome service, delicious food and a great casual atmosphere.
Was good little patio. Think this place would be great for happy hour with their happy hour specials. Or Tuesday for taco Tuesday.
Back patio was great, inside would have been less great.
Bartender amazing. Very knowledgeable. Waitress great. Not a good spot for kids. Lots of noise.
Worst service I have had in a long time. The restaurant wasn’t even half full. It took an hour and a half from ordering until our food arrived to our table. There were 4 of us there, and they brought over TWO drinks on the house to apologize for the wait... what are 4 people supposed to do with 2 drinks? What a joke! Will NOT be going back any time soon!
Another great meal at Elcortez! Always friendly staff and delicious food!
Portions small, prices high.
It was okay. Very loud though and we were there early on a Thursday night
My Enchilada was amazing. Prompt and good service. The music was a bit loud, but the atmosphere was great.
Great staff, great food, great vibes! Love the atmosphere and how well we were treated!
I was disappointed that we were served Tostidos tortilla chips and a couple of homemade potato chips. I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants, and I was always served homemade tortilla chips, so I was very disappointed. I can make the same Tostidos and pico at home.
Food and drinks were significantly overpriced. Quality of food was ok but not worth what they were asking at regular price.
Always a pleasure eating here!
My friend and I throughly enjoyed our brunch at El Cortez. It was my friend’s first time there and she was very impressed. Both the food & service were excellent and we both plan on returning again. The only downside that prevents me from giving El Cortez a 5 Star rating was the ambience. The staff chose to play loud rap music at a Saturday brunch. There were lots of families with young children in the restaurant at the time and some the songs were not not age appropriate for little ears.
Top notch joint. Excellent food, with an extensive tequila menu, if that's your thing.
Delicious food but found us asking of a lot of things and the drinks were quite expensive
Food, drinks and atmosphere were awesome! We will be back.
Although the food and drinks were good and the service was fine, the noise level and energy level of the restaurant is a little off putting as you can hardly hear your own table conversation. Definitely for the younger crowd. But a fun place for Cinco de Mayo💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Really nice restaurant/ bar. The environment is fun and busy, and the food is really great. Went for my birthday and loved it. Also good for pictures.
Our server Jenna was fantastic. She was attentive and helpful with menu suggestions
Our first table was incredibly uncomfortable. Flat metal stools with angled edges that dug in after a few minutes. We requested a new table and they gave us a very comfy booth. The staff were all very sweet and friendly. The music was too loud for even our yelling to qualify as conversation. I wish they could have incorporated even A LITTLE BIT of Latin music in the mix for a better Mexican restaurant experience but hey...I like Snoop and Gaga as much as the next person. It just would have been nice. The food was tasty, but portions were small. Even after a starter and entree, we left hungry but we were anxious to go somewhere were we could hear each other. I'd definitely go again if I were with someone I didn't like or if I wasn't very hungry and couldn't get in anywhere else.
exceeded expectations food and drinks were spot on.
Experience was nice! It was a little bit loud and some of the drinks were a little expensive, but overall a nice experience!
Lovely setting, great food. Music in the restaurant was way too loud, especially given there is a DJ downstairs who can provide music at full volume if thats what you are looking for.
Had a great time, food was excellent and service was first class. We will be back.
Really kind of average in every way. Good just ok, drinks good, service was fine.
