About El Cholo Cafe
El Cholo Pasadena opened its doors to the public in October 2000 on Fair Oaks Ave. We moved to the Paseo Colorado Mall in December 2010 on Colorado Blvd., keeping the 91 year old legend going strong. All of the El Cholo restaurants feature authentic and traditional Mexican dishes, many of which have come from family recipes dating back to 1923. Our distinctive menu offers classics such as our famous Green Corn Tamales, Enchiladas, and sizzling Fajitas. Our Combination plates along with our newer comidas especiales have made El Cholo famous along with our irresistible Nachos introduced in the 1950's.
The decor of El Cholo Pasadena radiates warmth and relaxation. The Hacienda style architecture is accented with hand-painted arches, rustic ceiling timbers and traditional Mexican murals.
Amenities include two full service bars, three outdoor patios, and a private banquet room.

El Cholo Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Terrible meal. Tortilla soup was so salty it was inedible. Server must have noticed we didn't eat it but said nothing. Chili relleno literally had no chili in it. Basically a cheese omelet. Had to ask for water 4 times. Big wedding party took all servers attention and everyone else suffered. Table side guac was very good. On top of it all I return home to an email from open table that I was a no show. They can't even get that right.
Well, it took about 40 mins to get our entrees, and it was not busy when we sat down at 530pm on a Sunday. We ordered the Fiesta Platter, which tasted terrible, sorry, and I think the sour cream may have been bad. We also ordered street tacos, which were just okay, for $13.50 it was way overpriced. It took at least another 20 mins to get our check and the waiter did not even validate our parking ticket. Lastly, I almost tripped over the rug near the entrance on my way to the bathroom, which was sticking up. I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately I will not be coming back here again.
Luckily, we had a reservation. Would have been an hour wait on a Saturday night. Were seated right away and order drinks and the 3 taco appetizer. A minuscule amount of guacamole came with them. The chips and salsa weren't much to write home about. We ordered the 1/2 order of guacamole which wasn't half the price which bothered my husband. We both order enchiladas which were tasty but again with a tiny amount of sour cream. Could NOT get a drink reorder to save our lives! Spoke to the manager and he offered me a beer. I told him I wanted it WITH my dinner, not afterwards. The server was told about it and he also asked if we needed anything. NO! We are done with dinner now. Also, the water was served in plastic cups and a glass was not offered with my beer. A little pricey but warranted in the location. Nice ambiance.
this was a disappointing experience. First time at ElCholo, Pasadena. It was noisy, service was ok but not very attentive (it was Saturday and busy). The chips were the same as grocery store, bagged chips, not homemade. The enchiladas were not good. All-in-all, years ago El Cholo was a great all-around experience, not so any longer.
Food at this chain restaurant is always top notch. Service was incredibly slow at the beginning and it was only 6:15 so the restaurant was not busy. Got better once we got an order in. Also this restaurant has a separate website from the main restaurant chain and they are not linked together. That needs to be fixed.
This is a nice place with a good authentic mexican menu and atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. The corn tamales were really a treat, as well as the fish tacos. 2nd time here and really enjoyed it. The only downside is the big tent that the mall put up where events such as weddings occur. It feels like your eating next to someones parachute that just landed.
One thing is that I booked my table with specific instructions through Open Table, and when we arrived it was as though they hadn't read my requests about the table or the occasion. That's the whole point of booking through open table.
The homemade flour tortillas are to die for!!! The bartender actually made us a great margarita, we asked for it the way we have it at El Coyote, up with rocks on the side. It was pretty good. The tablesude guacamole was fab!!!!
