El Centro D.F. on 14th Street Ratings and Reviews
Delicious for bottomless brunch. The drinks are great as was the food, really fun to get to try all of the different things on the menu. Service declined greatly as we got towards the end, food and drinks consistently took 15+ minutes and we only rarely saw our server.
The place was hopping with people five-deep at the bar when we arrived. With a concrete floor and metal everywhere the volume of the crowd was really too loud for dinner conversation. We wanted to get rooftop seating but a private party had that closed off.
What's happened to El Centro? Tacos mediocre. Definitely less flavor. AND they gave us a dark table in the dungeon when they knew that this was a celebratory brunch. NOT returning to this place when there are so much better, more authentic places now in DC. Pity. Appears that they are appealing to the crowd that only drinks. How pedestrian.
Not sure why this place had good ratings. We were sat at a two top right next to the bar and kept getting knocked by bar patrons. We had guacamole that literally tasted like nothing, salsa that tasted like tomato paste, and an order of seriously bland and fatty Barbacoa beef tacos. The meat was completely flavorless. We were given water when we arrived and each of us orders one drink. We were never offered refills of either. I would love to blame it on a busy night, but it wasn’t. Will not recommend or go back.
The tacos were amazing. The drinks delicious. The service perfect, there when we needed and not hovering when we were chatting. The churros were a fabulous finish to the spectacular boozy brunch. The perfect 21st birthday present.
Almost forgot, the bacon wrapped hot dog.....heaven!! Amazing flavors.
Went for an early dinner on sunday evening. Guacamole was good as was the free chips and salsa (especially the smoky salsa). Then things went a little south. Took a while to get margarita but it was large and not too bad. Got the mahi mahi tacos - lacked some flavor. Both myself and dining companion had issues with the taco tortillas - they broke when we bit into our tacos so had to use utensils to eat them. Would come back for happy hour appetizers and drinks, not sure about other food though.
Service was so so bad. We waiting about 15 minutes before the server came over to give us menus. Easily another 20 mins before our half pitcher of overly sweet margaritas were served. We almost got up and left (should have looking back) and finally our food came. The fajitas weren't even hot. Super disappointed. Won't be returning.
The best part of the meal was the salsas, which were creative and delicious. The tacos were good, but overpriced. The queso was good, but would have been better if served with sturdy chips instead of tortillas. My first margarita was good, but the second was overly sweet. The music was very loud and we found ourselves shouting across the table at each other.
I've been to the Georgetown location so I was rather familiar with the menu and the bottomless brunch. I made a reservation and checked in on time but wasn't seated until an hour later. After being given the run around by the host the manager did stop by to get us a drink and thank us for our patience. After finally being seated in th lower level which is so beautiful it was quiet and cozy. The server didn't come by for 10 mins and at this point brunch is almost over. We quickly order the food beat out first round of drinks at the table. The sever was so weeded it was crazy. I could see her taking 2 parties of 14 I honestly felt bad for the girl. I will be back just not to this location.
Had a wonderful experience at Saturday brunch with my friends. I made a reservation the night before, walked in the day of and was greeted/shown to my reserved table downstairs. The downstairs tequileria was a more energetic atmosphere than the upstairs. The music was good, the downstairs bar looked nice and we were helped immediately. $35 is a great value for unlimited brunch drinks and food. Take some friends, so that you can try as much food and drinks as you can before you're full!
We were in DC and just happen to pick this place from reading reviews. Wow, now I know why it got great reviews. The street tacos were off the chain good, perfect! Not upscale, more of a casual place with a great bar. Big Recco for this place, 5 out of 5 for everything.
