Reaching back to his culinary roots, Chef Sandoval created El Centro DF to introduce Washington, D.C. to signature authentic Mexican flavors and traditional dishes that he grew up enjoying. The dynamic two-story restaurant in Georgetown, with back patio, is also the home to 200 tequilas and mezcals!View Private Dining Details
Food was great! But service....no. It took 15 min until someone came to our table(who wasnt our waiter) to bring chips and water. Then we waited another 10 for our waiter to come. We finally ordered but my boyfriends food never came until we said something. I got two plates before he did. Then they ran out of coffee. The place was busy but the tables both to us seemed to be getting better service.
Really bad food, really watery drinks. Took forever to get served and to order more. Definitely not worth the $35
Slow service and when I got my meal, the lamb taco, it was full of fat and grizzle and very little meat. I can't believe a chef would serve that. The manager did offer to swap the dish but at that stage I had lost my appetite. It was vile.
The food and drinks were fabulous and out server was great. We will definitely be back and would recommend it to friends and family.
Excellent Mexican dinner, prices are good, service was excellent and we will go
There again for sure
Our server was great! I joined friends for a Sunday brunch and the food and drinks were delicious. Our server was very responsive and kept the drinks and food flowing throughout our time there.
Great service, good food. Will be back to try the drinks.
Have been a frequent customer of El Centro over the years but won't be going back to this location. Food was great and as expected; however, our service was horrendous. Waitress failed to introduce herself, took our order, and never checked back in until she brought the check. I had to personally go to the bar to get standard service (utensils, water, etc). Such a shame, will be sticking with the 14th street location from here out.
Bottomless brunch is amazing
I would rate two and half stars. We went for brunch and were a table of 3. The waiter was horrible and didnt provide us service. We would order off the menu and they would bring us the wrong things off the menu. Food was ok i suggest anything thats comes with a poached egg and the quesadillas. Everything else was cold. On the flip side the drinks were delicious however because of the poor service we never got what we asked for. Waiter kept putting in the wrong order and leaving unwanted drinks on the table. Nonetheles, for $35 the drinks pay for themselves for sure and i looked at the food being "free" so for "free" food cant complain too much. But added with the terrible service i would never come back for brunch, but would try the bar's happy hour!
Both the Georgetown and 14th Street locations of El Centro are some of my favorite spots in D.C.
Took 45 minutes to get seated after our reservation time. Ordered several food items that never arrived, despite several reminders to the server. Food was good and ambiance was good but service was extremely subpar.
Love this place for dinner, despite the terrible service. Would never again come for brunch- definitely a different crowd and equally horrible service. Not worth the $35 bottomless if your waiter never returns to the table.
Good Food but Extremely slow service on a Friday night. It seemed like the restaurant was very short staffed so we were there much later than we wanted to be.
Great fajitas and enchiladas.
Service was very slow, plates and cups were extra dirty. One of the margaritas had a hair in it. Terrible
It was fine. Good food and bad service, which is to be expected for Sunday brunch in Georgetown. I recommend it.
Thanks we enjoyed our Easter Brunch - great service from Derek
Every time I go to El Centro I am impressed. I try to try something new every time, and even though the menu is not huge, it allows for that which is great. The margaritas are amazing, whether it be for dinner or their unlimited brunch. I highly recommend this restaurant!
It took forever for anyone to come to the table to ask us what we wanted to drink. Then the waitress and wouldn’t check up on us. 2/4 of us ate our food with our drinks being emptied. One person in my party ordered a second margarita and the waitress forgot to bring it and she brought it after we reminded her about 15 mins later. We had to ask for the check twice because once again she had “forgotten”. Definitely a lack of efficiency and they “forget” many things you will order. I was definitely disappointed. I planned my 17-person birthday brunch here in a few weeks but I’m considering going somewhere else after this experience. It sucks because the food and drinks here are good.
Horrible experience. Took over 1 hour to get food and when we finally did it was cold.
Although the food was delicious, our server was not the best we’ve ever had. He was falling asleep, kept yawning, and never refilled our drinks. Our food would never arrive until we flagged down our server. When the food finally did arrive, It kept going to the table next to us and vice versa. This is the first time I experience terrible service. Although the server was nice, he just wasn’t with it.
Although we had a wonderful server, our experience here was definitely below expectations. I have spent a lot of time in Mexico and was excited to have some genuine tacos, not Tex-Mex. We ordered a chicken enchilada that came with a sauce that tasted full of ketchup, kind of like the sloppy joe sauce you got in public school in the 1970s. We sent it back and they were nice about replacing the order with something better. The food was very beautiful but just not very good.
Celebrated a friend’s birthday for brunch. The hostess we checked in with was friendly and informed us that we were early and would be sat closer to our reservation time. No big deal. There was almost no where for us to stand while we waited though. It is a popular restaurant for brunch so trying to stand out of the way while waiting was extremely difficult. Food was amazing, and our waiter was attentive, on top of things, and really nice. The only other negative part of the experience was the interaction my husband had with the other hostess at the check in desk. She was unnecessarily rude to him when he brought menus to her from our table just so we could clear some space and not bother our waiter while he was running around. If one of the first people you come in contact with has a bad attitude, it’s hard to ignore it.
Is this truly a Mexican restaurant? Our awful brunch experienced started with our table. Our group of three people was forced into a table for two (with a crooked leg). When we asked to be changed, we are told that "that was all they had, take it or leave it" and without any consideration to the fact that we had made a reservation through open table days in advance. Our food was served cold. The enchiladas served in El Centro are miniature size (think about children's menu) and garnished with tons of uneatable and everything but sides (enchiladas with plantains, risotto). Tacos were served cold, overcooked and the meat was burned. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Simply disappointing.
Had a great dining experience We went to the dance floor after dinner. Music was meh and the DJ was very rude. If the music does not encourage patrons to dance, perhaps it should be changed?
Even though it was an incredibly busy night at a busy time, our table was secure!!
Food and atmosphere were great! The server messed up my order, but made it right quickly. Would absolutely recommend to others
No tuvimos una buena experiencia, la atención muy mala
The place was really packed in and tight , much tighter than the other location . The brunch drinks were subpar and the service was slow . I ordered one thing and it seem to take almost 30 mins to come out . I am not sure if I would return here for brunch .
Very loud bar atmosphere. Young crowd. Bad, watery margaritas. Food was decent but expensive, especially given the downscale feeling of the place. Think of it more of a bar than a restaurant.
Guacamole was the best I’ve ever had. Very good. The enchiladas were average.
This place never disappoints
The kitchen staff here is amazing! They nail the food every time! We keep coming back for the guacamole and tacos! The service is ritualistically awful with no attention to detail. The overall experience isn’t good, but the food is quick and tasty. I can’t say enough good things about the kitchen. I would stop coming back if the food wasn’t so good. Back of the house keep doing what you’re doing!
Great Mexican flavor; great quick service and quiet atmosphere.
The value was great but the service was very poor which was disappointing since it was my birthday. When you order bottomless brunch you expect to get refills but our waiter was very slow and had hardly any energy to be working a Sunday brunch. He kept flirting with two girls at another table and hardly served us. The food and drinks were good when we finally got them.
Food was terrible
I went there for drinks. We sat at the bar at 4:45 and the offered us the brunch menu. We didn’t want to eat brunch at almost 5 pm so we told him we wanted to start with drinks, after that the bartender did pay attention to us and was rude. When another bartender talk to us the rude bartender came as told him in Spanish they just want drinks thinking that none of us spoke Spanish and they ignore us for another 10 minutes. I personally took my friends there because I had a good time there before but this was an terrible experience.
Probably the best Brunch in D.C.
This was my first time eating in downtown Georgetown. The atmosphere of the restuarant was cool and lively and the service was quick and attentive. Food was so so awesome and worth the high prices. Drinks were absolutely terrible—don’t waste your money. Overall, not outstanding, but a good experience
